Chapter 651 Did He Really Say That?
On Friday afternoon, Austin picked up Daisy to watch the movie by her favorite director.
Daphne and the others picked up Molly from school, and when the time was about right, they all went to the place Austin had prepared in advance.
By eight o'clock, it was already getting dark outside.
Daphne, keeping track of the time, went to the cinema alone, leaving the three kids with Benjamin.
After watching the movie, Austin was nervous but pretended to chat casually with Daisy. "How was the movie?"
"It was okay, not as good as the last one," Daisy said, then asked him, "Where are we going now?"
Austin blurted out, "Up to you."
Daisy was a bit surprised. "Up to me?"
"Yeah," Austin nodded, speaking naturally, "Wherever you want to go, we'll go."
Daisy stopped in her tracks, looking at him with some suspicion. Had she guessed wrong?
Had Austin been secretly busy these past few days not to propose to her?
"What's wrong?" Austin asked tentatively.
"Nothing," Daisy felt a bit disappointed. She had always thought Austin had called her out alone to propose, but now it seemed she had overthought it. "Let's just wander around."
"Okay," Austin agreed, but he couldn't help but wonder why Daphne hadn't shown up yet.
Just then, Daphne appeared.
Seeing Daphne, Daisy was a bit surprised, "Daphne?"
"You guys watched a movie here too?" Daphne played along.
Daisy nodded, looked around but didn't see Benjamin, and asked, "Where's Benjamin? Didn't you come together?"
"Don't mention it," Daphne walked alongside Daisy, unknowingly leaving Austin behind. "We just had a fight. I was going to meet Emma to clear my head, but her husband pulled her back just as she was about to leave."
"What did you fight about?" Daisy couldn't help but feel a bit worried.
She had always seen the affection between Daphne and Benjamin.
They had been married for so many years and had always been sweet to each other. She had never heard of them fighting.
"It's a long story. I'll tell you later when we have time," Daphne acted convincingly, stopping to say, "You two go ahead and have fun. I'll come to your place tonight, and we can talk."
"Are you alone now?"
"Yeah."
"I'll keep you company," Daisy blurted out.
Austin tentatively said, "What about me?"
"You go to Daphne's place and pick up Molly," Daisy chose Daphne without hesitation, as Daphne was the most important person in her life. "We'll come back after we talk."
Austin agreed reluctantly and left, reminding them to come back early.
Watching Austin leave, Daisy realized that her previous thoughts about a proposal were completely off.
"So, what did you fight about?" Daisy linked arms with Daphne and walked forward.
"It started because Louis and Diana wanted to join a hobby class. I always support what the kids like," Daphne followed the script Austin had given her, "but Benjamin thought their schedule was too full and wasn't happy about it."
Daisy was puzzled. She felt something was off.
Although she didn't know Benjamin very well, he always supported the kids' interests, didn't he?
"And then?" she asked.
"I tried to reason with him, and he got angry, saying I was signing them up for so many classes just for showing off," Daphne said, thinking Austin's scriptwriting skills were really lacking.
Not to mention that Daphne wasn't like that, Benjamin wouldn never argue with her over such a thing either.
Daisy would never believe it.
"Did he really say that?" Daisy asked tentatively.
Daphne could only nod. "Yeah."
"Has he been acting normal lately?"
"Pretty much."
"Do you think it's normal for him to argue with you over this?" Daisy had a vague suspicion.
Daphne thought for a moment, seeing that Daisy didn't seem to have figured it out, and shook her head. "It's very abnormal, even strange."
"Strange is right. I think there's definitely something wrong with Benjamin," Daisy started to speculate. "Have you ever heard of things like reincarnation?"
Daphne paused and nodded. "I've heard of it."
"I have a bold idea," Daisy couldn't imagine Benjamin saying such things, but Daphne wouldn't lie to her.
Daphne had a vague suspicion. "What is it?"
"Benjamin might not be himself anymore," Daisy said seriously. "He loves you so much and respects the kids. How could he say such things?"
"Also, based on your usual interactions, even if you had a fight, he would stay by your side, not let you go out alone," Daisy continued.
If this were true, Daphne might have believed it.
But it was Austin's script.
"Could it be that he's tired of being with me?" Daphne tested the waters.
"Impossible," Daisy had witnessed Daphne and Benjamin's relationship from dating to marriage. "He's always had eyes only for you, so he couldn't be tired of you."
Daphne pressed her lips together, not saying anything. What Daisy said was indeed true.
Daisy's eyes shifted, and she suggested, "Why don't you take me to see him later? I'll check his state."
"Well..." Daphne looked ahead, seeing they had unknowingly reached their destination. Her gaze fell on the tall, handsome figure of Benjamin on the nearby lawn, "It seems there's no need to take you."
"What?" Daisy was puzzled.
Daphne stopped, looking at Benjamin from a distance. Beside him were three kids, Louis, Diana, and Molly.
Following Daphne's gaze, Daisy froze. This didn't look like they had been fighting at all.
Just then, the previously dark environment suddenly lit up. Above them appeared a vast starry sky, making them feel like they were in the real, mysterious, beautiful universe, full of stars.
"Is today some kind of anniversary for you guys?" Daisy started to imagine.
Daphne couldn't keep up with her thoughts. "What do you mean?"
"Is it possible that his strange behavior and the fight were just to give you this surprise today?" Daisy guessed, not knowing Benjamin's personality well. "Looking at the setup, it seems quite elaborate."
