Chapter 26 She is Very Understanding

At a fork in the road, Mark went in the right direction while Charles deliberately took the wrong one. He wanted to see how Daphne would choose.
Daphne didn't even consider choosing. Whether she knew or not, between Charles and Mark, she would unquestioningly choose Mark.
This was something Charles taught her.
"Boss..." Mark noticed that his boss had taken the wrong path, stopped in his tracks, and called out, "Miss Murphy's ward is this way; you went the wrong way."
Charles turned back. The three of them continued walking.
Charles focused on Daphne, who had remained calm throughout: "How did you know this was the correct path?"
"Because it's the path Mark took," Daphne's words shut down all his suspicions.
"..."
Daphne response really flustered Mark.
He was truly afraid that his boss would suspect something abnormal between him and Mrs. Lancelot. He would accompany Mrs. Lancelot on shopping trips, make food reservations for her, and be the one to pick her up when she went out.
Charles was so irritated that he couldn't even say anything to Daphne. Upon sensing something amiss, his steps quickened towards Lydia's ward.
He was just testing the waters, knowing that even if he sent someone to cooperate, it would be the same.
At Lydia's side...
Mr. Murphy straightened his clothes, and after making sure Lydia checked for any issues, he asked, "Do I have the presence?"
"You do."
"Really?"
"Really!"
"Can I intimidate Charles?"
"That's hard to say..." Lydia spoke the truth.
From what she remembered, Charles had never been intimidated by anyone; it was always others who feared him.
Mr. Murphy also knew this. An air of seriousness appeared on his face involuntarily as he pondered how to intimidate Charles.
Bullying his daughter, he had to teach him a lesson no matter what!
Just as he was thinking this...
The secretary, dressed in a suit, opened the door and in a businesslike tone said, "Mr. Murphy, the Lancelot Group's Mr. Lancelot has arrived."
"Let him in."
"Yes."
The secretary promptly invited the person into the ward.
This was the first time Charles and Mr. Murphy were discussing business in a hospital ward. Charles entered the room with Daphne, greeted Mr. Murphy, and throughout this time, Charles had been observing Mr. Murphy's and Lydia's reactions.
However, he gained nothing from it.
Whether it was Mr. Murphy or the daughter of the Murphy Group, their gazes remained indifferent upon Daphne's arrival.
It was as if Daphne was just an unrelated person.
They exchanged pleasantries, and after Charles expressed his condolences and wished Lydia a speedy recovery, they finally began the formal discussion.
"Mr. Lancelot expressed interest in our new project at the Murphy Group. I wonder which specific project it is." Mr. Murphy sat in a chair, his inquiry polite but carrying the weight of years behind it.
Daphne's gaze flickered slightly. She felt that dummy dad's aura had changed somewhat. Little did she know, Mr. Murphy was currently dissatisfied with Charles?
Bringing her along without introducing her, just this single action made him feel that Charles did not care about his Daffy at all.
It was precisely because of this dissatisfaction that his power of intimidation vaguely surpassed Charles'.
Charles also sensed a hint of hostility from the other side, but upon careful observation, he realized he was overthinking. "The artificial intelligence one."
"We have several artificial intelligence projects." Mr. Murphy spoke quickly, his gaze fixed on him. "Which one are you referring to?"
"The artificial intelligence robot."
"This is indeed good, but we have already collaborated with other companies."
"No problem." Charles wasn't here for serious business in the first place.
He glanced at Daphne, his thin lips slightly parted, and with a hint of deeper meaning, he said, "Mr. Murphy, besides Lydia, do you have any other daughters?"
"What do you mean?" Mr. Murphy smoothly continued the conversation.
At that moment, Lydia also looked up.
Charles spoke with a serious tone, neither fast nor slow, "Some time ago in Ivrea City, I heard someone claiming to be the heir of the Murphy Group. I thought Mr. Murphy had other daughters besides Miss Murphy."
"My father only has me as his daughter." Lydia sat on the edge of the bed, her voice carrying a touch of youthful innocence.
Daffy was their precious little one!
Mr. Murphy appeared more composed now and half-jokingly replied, "These kind of rumors should be taken lightly. I've heard many people saying they wanted to have a child with Mr. Lancelot before."
"That's true." Charles chatted with him absent-mindedly.
Lydia couldn't quite control her gaze.
She kept casting occasional glances at Daphne.
On her tenth look, Charles raised his eyes and spoke in a deep voice, "Miss Murphy, do you know my wife?"
"..."
Lydia couldn't possibly reveal the truth, right?
"She is your wife?" Lydia finally looked openly at her sister.
Charles gave a vague answer, "For now."
"For now?" Mr. Murphy pressed for more information.
"We are getting a divorce." Charles said it nonchalantly, his gaze focused on Mr. Murphy's reaction.
If Mr. Murphy was really Daphne's father, he would definitely be angry upon hearing this.
But Mr. Murphy remained unflappable.
He was not a gossiping person and wasn't particularly interested in other people's affairs. If he were to ask, it would surely expose Daffy's identity, which would not be good for her.
"Dad!" Lydia finally found a reason to challenge Charles and excitedly said to Mr. Murphy, "Didn't you think Mr. Lancelot's wife looks like someone we knew before?"
"What are you up to?”
“Letting Charles know that Daffy has some backing too.”
Mr. Murphy became anxious, what if Lydia exposed Daffy!
Lydia, tried reassuring him, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
"With you acting this way, it's hard for me to feel reassured!"
"Who?" He interrupted.
After exchanging a gaze with her, he asked, "Daphne, my personal bodyguard from elementary school," Lydia provided her own identity, her eyes filled with a hint of excitement.
"......" Mr. Murphy was at a loss for words.
"......" Daphne remained silent.
Charles furrowed his eyebrows slightly and muttered two words, "Personal bodyguard?"
"Daphne?" Mr. Murphy also began to play along.
He genuinely didn't know how to respond. This script wasn't part of their rehearsed testimony.
Lydia effortlessly played her role, helping her father recall the past. "When I was nine, didn't you bring back a sister five years older than me? You entrusted her with my safety, so I wouldn't get bullied outside of school."
Mr. Murphy furrowed his brows.
How should he respond to this? Should he pretend to remember or continue pretending to forget?
Lydia is five years younger than Daphne.
But without the script, he dare not make any random statements. What if he messed up?
