Chapter 608 Distorted Thoughts

"This isn't really my call. If my parents and Eugene want me to marry you, I can't fight them on it," Yasmin said, trying to sound reasonable.

Jesse's eyes went cold. "Seriously?"

"Yeah," Yasmin said firmly.

"No one in their right mind would say that." Jesse's whole vibe was icy.

"What do you mean by that?" Yasmin was a bit upset but kept it together. "I know you're loaded, but you don't have to talk down to me like this."

Jesse looked at her, confused, thinking, 'Is Yasmin out of her mind?'

"You say my worldview's messed up, but what about yours?" Yasmin shot back, "Eugene's your dad. You never visit, even when he's sick. Just because you're rich, you think you can ignore him?"

Jesse's eyes got even colder.

"You live it up in Gedser, wearing clothes that cost thousands, tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands," Yasmin went on, "But Eugene hasn't bought new clothes in years."

"Are you really defending him?" Jesse stayed unmoved.

After Jesse was kicked out, Daphne's family paid for him to stay at an orphanage, covering all his living and school expenses.

Later, the orphanage staff reached out to Eugene. Eugene's response was cold and dismissive, "I don't need that burden. If you want to keep him, fine. If not, send him to his mother. Don't bother me."

When Jesse was sick, only the orphanage staff and teachers cared for him. Despite this, Jesse still sent Eugene money every month.

"I just feel bad for Eugene," Yasmin blurted out.

"Then take him to your place," Jesse shot back coldly. "You're so kind; you wouldn't want him to live alone."

"I," Yasmin suddenly didn't know what to say.

Jesse extended his hand, his eyes locked on her. "Hand it over."

"What?" Yasmin panicked and took a step back.

"Your phone," Jesse said, his eyes on the phone in Yasmin's chest pocket, enunciating each word.

Yasmin noticed his gaze. In that moment, she felt a chill down her spine and panicked. How did Jesse know something was up with her phone?

"My phone is my private property. You have no right to take it," Yasmin insisted, covering her pocket and looking wary. "If you try to take it, I'll accuse you of sexual harassment."

Jesse frowned slightly. The position of the phone made it inappropriate for him to take it.

"I'll give you one minute to delete the video you're recording," Jesse said sharply.

Yasmin kept playing dumb. "You think I'm recording a video?"

Jesse thought, 'Aren't you?'

"Just because you're rich, you think you can accuse people like this," Yasmin continued, her pretty face showing some displeasure, "Even if I am recording, so what? Did I say anything wrong?"

Just as Jesse was about to respond, his phone rang. Seeing it was the PR department of HorizonTech Group, he quickly answered.

"Mr. Thornfield, are you currently arguing with a woman in a hotel?" The person on the other end quickly asked.

Jesse felt something was off. "Yeah."

"The person you're arguing with is live-streaming. Her words are blowing up online," the PR person said bluntly. "A lot of people are trashing you."

Jesse paused. He hadn't thought about a live stream.

"Got it," Jesse replied calmly.

"Should we handle her account and the online videos?" The PR person asked.

Jesse replied, "Not for now."

The truth would come out eventually.

Meanwhile, Elara noticed what was happening.

As someone who always kept up with HorizonTech Group's latest tech and research, Elara received news about Jesse through all the major apps almost immediately.

Her first thought upon seeing the notification was that it had to be a scam. Jesse was such a low-key guy; how could he be in the news?

However, when Elara clicked on the video and saw the content, her expression turned serious.

In the video, only Jesse's handsome but cold face and his voice with the girl's could be seen and heard. Yasmin's face wasn't shown at all.

Seeing thousands of comments, Elara clicked in.

[HorizonTech Group is a big company, right? How can someone like this be the president?]

[Bastard! He's so rich but doesn't take care of his parents.]

[If I were his parents, I'd regret giving birth to him.]

[How can he shamelessly ask a girl to take care of his father? So despicable!]

Reading these comments, Elara frowned even more. Without hesitation, she called Jesse.

Jesse was still facing off with Yasmin. Seeing Elara's call, he hung up and texted her back, telling her not to worry.

Elara: [Don't say anything more to that woman. Leave the hotel and find PR.]

Jesse: [No need.]

Elara: [Do you know how badly you're being trashed online?]

Jesse: [I'll release all the info once it's ready. For now, go home. I don't want those people finding you.]

He didn't care about being trashed; those words couldn't hurt him. People were cursing him and HorizonTech Group now, but once Jesse released all the info, they'd realize how wrong they were.

Seeing how stubborn he was, Elara decided to drive over to find him.

Meanwhile, Yasmin was genuinely scared now. Jesse's demeanor was too cold.

"I will sue you for violating my image rights and defamation," Jesse said, still calm. "Expect a court summons."

"I'm doing the right thing!" Yasmin was nervous, but she couldn't show it while live-streaming. "Ignoring your father is unfilial."

"I ignore him because he abandoned me," Jesse replied simply.

"That's just an excuse," Yasmin replied offhandedly.

"Whether it's an excuse or not, I'll explain to the public," Jesse said, his gaze fixed on Yasmin's face, noting her panic. "As for you, I hope you can afford the compensation after the court's ruling."

If it were just Jesse, the compensation wouldn't be much. But if he got into trouble, HorizonTech Group would be implicated. These consequences were not something Yasmin could afford.
