Chapter 485 Am I That Kind of Person

Henry knew his position was on the line, and he didn't give a damn about keeping up appearances. He whipped out his phone and shot a quick text to Daphne: [Daphne, can you help me plan a proposal?]

No reply. Time dragged on.

Henry didn't push it, thinking maybe Daphne was tied up with something.

"Hey, by the way," Anouk piped up after binge-watching some videos. "When are you planning to tie the knot?"

"Next year."

"Then you better start planning that wedding."

To Anouk, a wedding was a big deal, the ultimate romantic dream for any girl.

It had to be stunning, grand, and ideally, a spectacle for the whole world to see.

"The wedding's already sorted." Benjamin knew Daphne wasn't into big weddings and respected her choice. "We're just inviting close family and friends. No big ceremony."

Anouk and Henry's jaws dropped, just like Alexander and Lydia's had. They thought they misheard.

"This is something we both agreed on," Benjamin added.

"How can you not have a wedding?" Anouk, having been through it herself, thought Benjamin was just being lazy. "Are you trying to trick Daphne into skipping it because you think it's too much hassle?"

"Do I look like that kind of guy?" Benjamin's tone was chill.

Anouk paused. No, he didn't.

"Every girl dreams of a wedding. You'll regret not having one." Anouk still hoped they'd reconsider. "Plus, Daphne's part of the Murphy Group. If you skip the wedding, won't people talk?"

"They won't," Benjamin assured.

Anouk and Henry both felt it was a bad idea but didn't know how to argue.

Benjamin added, "She doesn't like crowds."

In the end, Anouk and Henry just told them to think it over and left the decision to them.

After the chat, Benjamin had dinner with his family and then texted Daphne about it. [My parents asked about the wedding. I told them our plan.]

Daphne replied soon after: [My dad asked too, and I told him.]

Benjamin: [Are you sure you don't want a big wedding?]

Daphne: [Yeah, a small ceremony is fine.]

Benjamin: [If you ever want a big wedding, just say the word. Even if we're old and gray, I'll make it happen.]

Daphne's heart melted. [Okay.]

Henry saw Benjamin grinning at his phone and figured he was texting Daphne.

But when Henry looked at his own empty inbox, he felt a pang of sadness.

Henry coughed, trying to get some attention.

Benjamin, lost in his chat, barely noticed, thinking Henry was just clearing his throat.

Henry got more frustrated and coughed louder.

Benjamin finally looked up and asked, "What's up?"

"Who are you texting so much?"

"Daphne."

"I see."

Benjamin raised an eyebrow and said casually, "If you want to chat, you can go upstairs and find Mom. She's probably picking out clothes in the closet right now."

"Do I need you to remind me?" Henry shot back, snorting. "I just wanted to say, I texted Daphne earlier, and she hasn't replied."

"That's normal; she doesn't check her phone often."

"Then how did she reply to you?" Henry grumbled, knowing he sent his message first.

"You could say I'm her VIP contact. Whenever I text, she gets a special notification," Benjamin said, clearly rubbing it in.

Benjamin glanced at Daphne's message and filled her in on the situation.

Daphne then scrolled through her messages and finally spotted Henry's text buried under a bunch of other notifications.

When she opened it, she saw Benjamin's message first, followed by a flood of emails and random stuff, which had pushed Henry's message way down.

Benjamin asked her: [What did my dad message you about?]

Daphne was about to ask Benjamin why Henry wanted to propose again, but before she could, another message from Henry popped up: [Don't let Benjamin know.]

Daphne paused and asked: [Is this for you or are you helping someone else?]

Henry replied seriously: [I want to propose to Anouk again. I'm not very romantic. I proposed with just a bouquet back then. She was really envious of your proposal to Benjamin today.]

Daphne was surprised.

Henry asked again: [Can you help?]

Daphne replied: [Sure, but since you and Anouk have been married for so long, why not turn it into an anniversary celebration or something?]

If it were a remarriage, a proposal wouldn't be a big deal.

But they've been married for over thirty years, and a proposal might get people talking.

Henry paused. Right! An anniversary celebration would be better.

After all, what Anouk wanted most was that romantic scene.

Henry replied: [Let me think about which day would be appropriate.]

Daphne said: [Wedding anniversary, birthday, Valentine's Day—any day you think is suitable would work.]

Henry was still thinking.

Their thirtieth anniversary had just passed two years ago, and her birthday was still far off. For the moment, there didn't seem to be a suitable day.

Finally, after discussing with Daphne, he decided to use their proposal anniversary.

After their chat, Henry didn't take up any more of Daphne's time.

Benjamin went upstairs and called Daphne, his voice smooth and deep. "What did my dad want from you?"

"Nothing much."

"Not going to tell me?"

"Henry said not to tell you," Daphne said seriously.

"Did he ask you to help him plan a proposal to my mom?" Benjamin guessed right away. "And he borrowed drones from you."

Daphne wondered if he had to be so spot-on. She hadn't said anything yet.

"What did you tell him?" Benjamin was curious.

"Not much." Daphne knew she couldn't hide it. "I just gave some suggestions, and Henry decided to change the proposal to an anniversary celebration."

Benjamin instinctively glanced out the window.

Honestly, he didn't know when Henry and Anouk's proposal anniversary was.

In Benjamin's memory, Henry and Anouk celebrated so many anniversaries. The only one he knew was their wedding anniversary, which he had guessed based on the level of celebration.
