Chapter 547 Considerate Jesse
"No, let me check first," Harry said, still worried about Elara.
"Don't stress, I know him well," Elara said with a smile, thinking of Jesse. "We go way back, even went to school together."
"Preschool?" Harry asked.
"No," Elara replied.
"College?" Harry pressed.
"Stop asking," Elara said, not wanting to give him more reasons to snoop on Jesse. "Once I get him, you'll know everything."
"Everyone you went to school with is in their early thirties. Are you sure he's single and not married?" Harry asked, clearly worried. "What if he's lying to you?"
"I've checked with reliable sources. He's single now," Elara sighed, feeling a bit tired. "Don't worry. If you don't let me pursue him, I'll never get married."
Harry got emotional. "Then don't get married. I can support you."
"Don't listen to your dad. If you like someone, go for it. Just protect yourself," Elara's mom, Zara Jenkins, chimed in over the phone.
Elara replied cheerfully.
After the call ended, Harry looked stern. "How could you say that?"
"Why not? Elara has the right to pursue love," Zara said, knowing the situation well. "I'm telling you now, don't interfere. If you ruin Elara's chances, you'll have to answer to me."
Harry pursed his lips and said nothing.
That night, Jesse booked tickets for both of them.
The next day, when Jesse and Elara left, Mark even drove them to the airport.
After Elara went to the restroom, Mark sidled up to Jesse and nudged his arm. "You gotta seize the opportunities."
"What opportunities?" Jesse asked, confused.
"All kinds. You're not getting any younger; you should find someone you like and start a relationship," Mark said, trying not to be too obvious. "You can't stay single forever."
Jesse shrugged. "I'll think about it later."
"What do you think of Elara?" Mark asked.
"She's nice." Jesse appreciated people who treated him well.
"Why not try getting along with her?" Mark suggested, indirectly helping Elara. "She's single now, and you two used to be desk mates. It's a good fit."
Jesse's eyes flickered, and he subtly changed the subject. "When are you having kids?"
"I'm talking about you. Why are you asking about me?" Mark emphasized.
"Just concerned," Jesse replied.
"I've said what I needed to. Whether you seize the opportunity is up to you," Mark added.
Jesse didn't say much. He valued relationships rooted in genuine feelings, rather than those entered into simply for the sake of having one.
"Jesse!" Elara waved at him, signaling him to check in. "Let's go."
"Okay." Jesse followed her.
Mark saw them off.
In first class, Elara noticed that Jesse had been busy on his computer since takeoff. She frowned slightly. "Is HorizonTech Group very busy?"
"It's okay," Jesse said, always indifferent about such things.
He just wanted to finish his work early and confirm with Daphne. This matter was quite important.
"Jesse," Elara called out again, her voice taking on a playful tone.
Jesse paused his work and looked at her, his eyes as cold as ever. "What's up?"
"Can you put your work aside for a moment?" Elara tucked her hair behind her ear. "I need to talk to you about something."
Jesse set his work down. "Go ahead."
"Do you live alone or with roommates?" Elara asked.
"Alone," Jesse replied.
"Would you mind having a roommate?" Elara blinked, looking hopeful.
Jesse was taken aback, thinking he misheard. "A roommate?"
"The company I used to work for is far from HorizonTech Group. If I join HorizonTech, I can't stay at my current place," Elara explained, looking a bit troubled. "But the rent here is pretty high, so I thought about finding someone to share it with."
"I'm a guy," Jesse pointed out.
In his mind, girls usually preferred living with other girls. Co-ed living arrangements could be awkward.
"Don't I know you're a guy?" Elara thought he was being dense.
Jesse looked up at her, still processing.
"Are you worried that living with me will stop you from finding a girlfriend?" Elara asked.
"I'm worried you won't be comfortable," Jesse said seriously. "If you don't mind, you can move in with me. I have two empty rooms."
"Great!" Elara agreed happily.
Working and living together, she could find a chance to win him over.
"Can you cook?" Jesse asked.
Elara stiffened, completely caught off guard. She couldn't cook.
Jesse wouldn't refuse her just because she couldn't cook, right?
She pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and asked, "Is cooking a requirement for roommates?"
If it was, she could take a quick cooking class and learn a couple of dishes.
"No, I get off work late and occasionally travel," Jesse explained. "If you can't cook, you might go hungry."
"I can cook a little," Elara said, pursing her lips.
Jesse nodded. "That's good."
After getting off the plane, Jesse and Elara left the airport together.
Thinking about her joining HorizonTech Group, Jesse told her in advance, "Let me know when you're moving. I'll come to pick you up."
"Okay!" Elara smiled immediately.
Jesse was so considerate!
After leaving the airport that day, Elara happily went home.
She decisively handed in her resignation to Harry, sweetly asking him to approve it. Thinking about her interview at HorizonTech Group on Monday, she felt a bit excited.
"Calm down!" Harry snorted.
Elara was about to retort when a Facebook message from Jesse popped up on her phone.
Jesse: [When are you moving? I'll schedule a time to pick you up.]
Elara: [Tomorrow, Saturday.]
Jesse: [Okay.]
Jesse: [Send me the address. I'll come during off-peak hours.]
Elara didn't think much and quickly typed out her current address. Just as she was about to send it, she suddenly remembered something very serious.
She lived in a villa area. If Jesse came, wouldn't he find out that her story about renting was a lie?
