Chapter 492 Thank You for Letting Me Win Once

Streamers and confetti rained down like a parade.

Rex, hiding behind the curtain, jumped out dressed like a clown. "Charles, happy birthday, dude!"

"Charles, happy birthday!"

Hayden and Laura strolled out, grinning from ear to ear, with genuine smiles plastered on everyone's faces.

It was almost a carbon copy of last year's bash.

The big twist? On his twenty-eighth, Daphne said "happy birthday," but on his twenty-ninth, it was a "long time no see" from her.

Rex and Mark popped the party poppers together.

Confetti and streamers showered down on Charles's head.

There were tons of things in this world that could heal a person, but for Charles, nothing beat the love and care from his family.

"Why'd you all show up?" Charles's face softened a bit.

Mark had said he was gonna take photos for Laura, so why were they all here now?

Rex ditched the party popper and slung an arm around Charles's shoulder. "We figured you'd be bored alone. Birthdays should be fun and lively."

"Don't just stand there; come blow out the candles and make a wish." Laura had already set up the candles on the cake.

"I already..."

"That was earlier. This year you get two cakes, so you get two wishes."

Laura knew exactly what he was thinking.

She could even guess that his earlier wish was about Daphne.

Rex lit the candles one by one, showing he cared about Charles. "Think about what you wanna wish for. A better career or a girlfriend?"

"Come on over."

"Make a wish."

After everyone finished talking, they started singing the birthday song.

Their singing was full of sincere blessings, warm smiles, and deep love for Charles.

Charles glanced at their faces, then closed his eyes and made his wish, "May those who love me and those I love have a smooth life."

After this birthday, Charles changed.

He often went home to hang out with his family, ate well, and slept well.

No one mentioned Daphne in front of him anymore, and he never brought her up either. Life seemed to have gone back to how it was a long time ago.

In a flash, another year passed, and it was now 2024.

Charles stopped thinking about taking the Lancelot Group to new heights; he just kept things steady.

As a result, he had a lot of free time and spent a lot of it with his family.

One day, after hanging out with his family, he got a message from Austin.

Austin said: [Daphne and Benjamin are getting married in a few days, just with their closest people, no big party.]

Charles replied: [Got it.]

After replying, he put his phone down.

Daphne and Benjamin were currently looking at their wedding photos that had just arrived.

Daphne stared at the photos for a long time and finally said, "You seem to look better than me."

"Be confident; I do look better than you."

She was sure Benjamin was the most narcissistic person.

"Feeling down 'cause you know I look better?" Benjamin teased.

"Ever heard this saying?"

"What?"

"The person who loves you thinks you look the best."

"And?"

"So when I look at the photos, there's emotion involved. Even if you were ugly, I'd still think you look good," Daphne said, dead serious.

Benjamin wasn't buying it. "Really?"

"Of course."

"I remember you care a lot about looks."

Daphne couldn't win this one, so she gathered the photos and hugged them to her chest. "Fine, I'll put the photos away, and you can go take your solo shots."

"Okay." Benjamin's voice had a slight lift.

Okay? Wasn't she just arguing with him?

"I said I'll put the photos away," Daphne repeated.

"I heard you. And then? Want me to find a box for you?"

Daphne was a bit thrown off, her usually calm face now showing some confusion.

Did Benjamin not love her anymore?

"These are our wedding photos," Daphne emphasized again.

Benjamin looked at her, wanting to say something but holding back. "I know."

"Do you really not want them?"

"Are you mad?" Benjamin pulled her into his arms.

Daphne pursed her lips and stayed silent; she wasn't exactly mad.

But the fact that Benjamin had no interest in keeping their wedding photos did make her feel a bit emotional.

"Do you think your ability to hide things is better than my ability to find them?" Benjamin lightly tapped her nose. "Or do you think you really have the skill to leave with these photos?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Daphne hugged the photos and started to leave.

Benjamin calmly reached out and pulled her back.

In just a few minutes, they exchanged dozens of moves. Benjamin countered every move, not only keeping Daphne but also taking the photos from her hands.

In the end, Benjamin pulled Daphne back into his arms.

"Why?" Daphne struggled but couldn't break free, frowning at him. "I've been secretly practicing every day for the past few months; why can't I beat you?"

Her biggest wish in life was to defeat Benjamin in a physical contest.

But now it seemed she had failed.

Benjamin was utterly relaxed. "Do you really want to beat me that badly?"

"Yes," Daphne spoke the truth. "Not just me, the others want to as well."

Benjamin's attractive lips curved into a smile. "Then you all need to work hard."

"Actually, there's a way to quickly beat me." Benjamin started to set a trap.

Daphne already knew his thoughts. "I refuse."

"I haven't even said it yet."

"I know what you're going to say."

"What?"

"Kiss me, kiss me once, and I'll let you win." Daphne knew him too well; after all, they'd been together for over a year.

But she was still too naive.

Benjamin said, "Okay."

Then he planted a kiss on Daphne's red lips.

Daphne had resigned herself to her fate.

She used to think that as long as she spent enough time with Benjamin, she would eventually avoid all the traps he set and beat him once.

But she forgot that Benjamin was too capable. When she knew where he would set traps, his way of setting traps had already changed.

"Thank you for letting me win once." Benjamin's smile was gentle all over.

Daphne was very helpless.
