Chapter 362 That Makes So Much Sense.

Daphne's eyes showed her emotions. Could she lie and say no?

Emma saw right through her and took another bite of dessert. "You know Benjamin planned this all along, right? With his connections, he could've easily landed another job. Why retire?"

"To go home and take over the family estate," Daphne blurted out.

"The estate isn't going anywhere," Emma said knowingly. "Is it really worth retiring for?"

Daphne thought that made sense and couldn't argue.

"I think he just wanted to be with you," Emma said bluntly. "If he didn't retire, he'd be busy with the organization. Being with you every day would be a pipe dream."

"Benjamin isn't the type to act on emotions," Daphne defended.

"How do you know?" Emma pressed. "Could you imagine him working at your company just to pursue you?"

Daphne quickly thought, 'No.'

Emma patted her shoulder. "Think carefully about whether you want to accept him. With his personality, he might confess again soon."

"What's there to think about? Just reject him," Kevin chimed in.

Emma nodded. "True."

Daphne wondered why she should reject him.

"Let's go shopping," Emma said, finishing her dessert and taking Daphne's hand.

Daphne's mind was a mess. Before today, she hadn't thought about these things, but after hearing Emma and Kevin and reading the group chat, she felt something stir inside her.

She couldn't describe the feeling.

Emma and Kevin noticed and felt relieved.

Since Benjamin was thoughtful, they felt Daphne would be safe with him. Whether as a friend or lover, Benjamin was reliable.

After their chat, Emma didn't drag Daphne around for long. By four in the afternoon, she and Kevin left.

Daphne went home with mixed feelings. When she arrived, Charles was coming out of his room, looking sharp in a mid-length coat, as if he was going out.

Daphne changed her shoes, surprised to see Charles looking so good. "Going out?"

"Yeah," Charles replied indifferently.

"Come back early," Daphne said.

Charles called her, "Daphne."

"Yeah?" she answered.

"Do you want to be with me?" Charles asked gently, his eyes on her.

Daphne paused, not expecting this. "Why are you asking again?"

"I want to know if you've changed your mind," Charles said, his hands fidgeting, his heart focused on her. "If you're with me, I'll listen to you, be good to you, and make you happy."

"Sorry," Daphne still refused.

Charles's eyes showed suppressed emotions. He held back what he wanted to say and finally just said, "I won't be back tonight. Remember to check your phone tomorrow; the game starts at 8 AM."

"Where are you going?" Daphne asked.

"I'll be waiting for you at the finish line," Charles said, his eyes reflecting her. "So we can finish this game together."

Seeing he wasn't upset, Daphne agreed. "Okay."

Charles added, "Don't tell anyone."

Daphne nodded. "Okay."

With her promise, Charles left, giving her a distant view of his back.

At that moment, Daphne's unease peaked. She didn't know why she felt this way or where it came from.

Charles got into Mark's car. Sitting in the back seat, his eyes were colder than before, making it hard to guess his thoughts.

Mark felt the tension in the car and didn't dare to speak.

"Did you find Nina's information?" Charles asked.

"Yes." Mark, always reliable, handed over the information. "Here it is."

The only information Mark couldn't find in his life was about Daphne. Everyone else was a piece of cake.

Charles skimmed through it, focusing on Nina being K's student.

If he remembered right, Nina called Daphne "teacher."

"Who is K?" Charles, without memories of the past, naturally didn't know Daphne's identity.

Mark paused, then explained, "The King of Hackers, a top hacker, an amazing person."

Charles's eyes deepened. The King of Hackers? No wonder Daphne's friends said they learned hacking from the King of Hackers, except her. Now it made sense.

"There's nothing more for you to do here in Gedser." Charles closed the file. "You can book a flight back to Ivrea City."

Mark was puzzled, not expecting this. "What about you?"

"I have some things to take care of." Charles didn't explain further. "Don't worry about me."

Mark glanced at him several times. Charles was acting strange today. Just then, Mark got a message from Daphne, probably asking if he was around to bring over the surveillance footage.

Before Mark could reply, he saw Charles open the car door and get out, so he didn't respond immediately. He asked, "Mr. Lancelot, where are you going?"

"To take care of something," Charles said, closing the car door. "Don't follow me."

Charles left, not giving Mark a chance to ask more questions.

As a competent assistant, when Charles said not to follow, Mark didn't. He replied to Daphne's message.

Half an hour later, Mark met Daphne outside Charles's place.

Mark took Daphne inside, pointed to the broken surveillance camera, and added, "By the way, the previous footage suddenly disappeared. Could you help restore it?"

"Sure." Daphne agreed. She handed the footage to Mark, who went to install it.

Once Mark turned on the computer, Daphne restored the previous footage in just a few minutes.

"Done," Daphne said, exiting the page.
