Chapter 369 Confession

On the drive back, Benjamin couldn't stop thinking about it.

After they got back, he barely drove that car, mostly using other sedans. Even when Daphne was around, it was rare.

Something that could catch Daphne's attention—Benjamin's mind went straight to the Smith family.

Did Daphne find out?

An hour later, Benjamin brought them home and took the file bag upstairs.

Since Charles hadn't eaten lunch, Daphne made sure he ate before letting him rest.

At 3:30 PM, Daphne made Charles go to sleep and then went to the study with Benjamin to discuss Charles's situation.

Brian might not tell her the truth; he could use the agreement with Charles to stir things up. But Benjamin's info was more reliable.

After closing the door, Daphne asked, "Benjamin, what did you mean earlier when you said Charles isn't a new personality?"

"Let's not rush into that," Benjamin said calmly, placing the file on the table.

Daphne thought, 'We're here to discuss this.'

Benjamin took off his coat, revealing a neatly buttoned black shirt, looking serious and elegant.

Daphne had already taken off her coat and scarf; it was warm inside.

She saw him unbutton the top button and sit down. She asked, "Then what's urgent?"

"Let's talk about the car first," Benjamin said lazily.

Daphne paused, thinking, 'The car?'

Seeing her confusion, Benjamin smiled slightly.

He planned to confess after dealing with Charles's matter, but since she already knew, he might as well clarify now.

"Do you remember when you first saw that car?" Benjamin asked.

Daphne answered, "The Smith family."

"Right." Benjamin turned the swivel chair around, facing her.

Before she could stand up, Benjamin's hands were on the armrests, trapping her.

The atmosphere became tense, the distance between them very close.

Daphne's heart raced, her usual calmness gone. "Benjamin?"

"I'm going to confess to you; are you ready?" Benjamin said directly. Despite his relaxed demeanor, he was nervous.

Daphne's mind went blank, her nervousness peaking.

Benjamin looked into her eyes. "Daphne, I like you. Will you spend the rest of your life with me?"

"I..." Daphne was speechless.

Benjamin patiently waited, watching her expression closely.

He had decided that if Daphne seemed uncomfortable, he would change the topic and not pressure her.

"Why me?" Daphne asked, genuinely puzzled.

Benjamin smiled. "You're the only one my heart desires."

Daphne said, "I've been married."

Benjamin shrugged. "I know."

Daphne continued, "I'm not very talkative; being with me might be boring."

Benjamin shook his head. "Life isn't a debate; it doesn't need to be exciting all the time."

Daphne looked down. "I have to take care of Charles."

Benjamin replied, "I'll be there with you."

Daphne looked into his eyes. "Benjamin."

"Yes?" he responded.

'I do,' Daphne thought. The words were right on the tip of her tongue, but she just couldn't say them.

She had never been confessed to so formally and was at a loss for words.

Seeing her hesitation, Benjamin said, "Not answering means you agree. From now on, you're my girlfriend."

"Wait, what?" Daphne was stunned.

"Yeah, you heard me." Benjamin smiled and lightly flicked her forehead. "Feeling shortchanged?"

Daphne's eyes shifted, and she joked, "A little bit."

Benjamin raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

Daphne explained, "Others get flowers when they're confessed to."

Benjamin smiled. "You have one too."

Daphne wondered where.

Benjamin looked at her leisurely. "Who said I was like a flower at thirty? Were you lying to me?"

Daphne knew this topic couldn't continue, so she changed the subject. "Let me go, I want to get a drink of water."

Benjamin released her and handed her the water he had prepared earlier.

Daphne didn't take it, her eyes fixed on the armrest of the chair.

"Didn't you want water?" Benjamin raised an eyebrow.

"Benjamin, should you get a health check-up?" Daphne said seriously, concerned about the water stains on the armrest. "The internet says sweaty hands can be a sign of kidney issues."

"Do I need to show you I'm perfectly fine?" Benjamin laughed.

Daphne sometimes teased him about his age, sometimes about his health.

Daphne obediently took the water cup and drank, avoiding his question. But she was still curious, 'Why so much sweat?'

Benjamin saw her curiosity and said, "It's nervous sweat. Don't doubt your boyfriend's kidneys; you might get into trouble."

"You get nervous?" Daphne ignored the latter part of his sentence.

Benjamin opened the file he had received, feeling happy. "Have you ever seen anyone confess without being nervous?"

Daphne said, "Only you."

Benjamin thought, 'Daphne really needs to be disciplined.'

Daphne put the cup on the table and asked seriously, "Emma and Zoey are both better and prettier than me. Why don't you like them?"

Daphne thought, 'If I were a man, I'd be attracted to Emma and Zoey, one lively and cute, the other free-spirited.'

"You should ask this." Benjamin pointed to his heart. "It only beats for you."

"Do you have any plans to get married soon?" Benjamin suddenly asked.

"I want to marry you," he said seriously.

"Aren't we supposed to talk about Charles's situation?" Daphne changed the subject, unable to continue the conversation. "Let's discuss his matter first."

Benjamin placed the opened file in front of her, not pushing further. "Take a look."

Daphne took it; one was Charles's medical record from Brian, and the other was a report from someone else.
