Chapter 761 Knowing It's Unreasonable, Why Make It Up?

"Whether or not he has an opinion depends on what he's trying to hide," Benjamin immediately responded to her, taking the opportunity to criticize his son. "If it's something against moral principles, it's hard not to have an opinion."

"He's not that kind of person," Diana defended her brother.

Benjamin didn't respond, just sat there.

Ever since Louis grew up, the father and son had a relationship filled with jabs and barbs, but they still cared deeply for each other when it mattered.

"He's just worried you won't let them be together because of Lyra's family background," Diana continued her act, getting better at it.

Both of their gazes fell on her.

Diana felt a bit uneasy; her parents' expressions seemed off. "What's wrong?"

"Are you sure your brother is worried about this?" Daphne hesitated.

Was her precious daughter really that bad at lying?

Diana hadn't realized it yet and nodded. "I'm sure."

"Not to mention we've always taught you two not to discriminate based on family background, but given your brother's personality, he wouldn't worry about this," Benjamin exposed her lie.

He knew his son's character well.

And Louis and Diana knew their parents' characters too.

"That's because you don't understand him," Diana continued her act, not letting herself get flustered. "He usually seems like he can handle anything, but he's a bit worried when it comes to relationships."

"He told you this?" Daphne asked.

"Sort of," Diana spoke slowly, worried they wouldn't believe her. "I saw him brooding alone in the study, and after pressing him repeatedly, he told me."

Daphne and Benjamin exchanged a glance; the former hesitated, while the latter smiled.

It was obvious.

They were 100% sure she was lying.

"You don't believe me?" Diana asked sincerely, still acting.

Daphne, not wanting to hurt her child's confidence, gently said, "A little bit."

"I can understand if you don't believe me. I was also surprised when he told me," Diana said earnestly, occasionally showing a bit of worry in her expression. "After all, it does seem a bit unreasonable for something like this to happen to him."

"Knowing it's unreasonable, why make it up?" Benjamin didn't play along anymore, speaking lazily.

Diana defended herself, "I'm not making it up."

"Yeah, right," Benjamin responded perfunctorily.

"I'm really not making it up," Diana emphasized, adding, "If you don't believe me, I can swear."

"Then swear that if you're making this up, you and Caspian will part ways," Benjamin always knew how to hit where it hurt.

Diana gave him a resentful look.

Having a too-smart dad was really not a good thing.

"I swear," she tried to muddle through, deliberately mumbling, "If I'm making this up, Caspian and I won't part ways."

She said "won't" very softly and quickly.

At first glance, it didn't seem like there was anything wrong with her words.

But Daphne and Benjamin were very sharp in this regard and immediately exposed her, "Won't?"

"What?" Diana continued to pretend.

"There's no point in pretending anymore," Benjamin said lazily, his whole demeanor casual. "Too fake."

Benjamin spoke directly, "Your brother is now running the company, and under his management, the annual profits are increasing, and several independent subsidiaries have gone public."

"So?" Diana asked.

"He's very talented in this area," Benjamin hinted.

Diana was confused; she really couldn't keep up with her dad's pace in this matter.

"He's only in his early twenties, not at the age to rush into marriage," Benjamin saw through everything. He could figure out what was on his son's mind. "If there really was the problem you mentioned, he could easily start a company in Lyra's name and manage it until it goes public in the next few years."

With Louis's ability and connections, starting a company and taking it public was a simple task.

After it went public and was well-managed, Lyra's status would naturally rise.

This would "shut their mouths."

Diana wanted to say something but realized her dad's words were very logical. If her parents really cared about family background, Louis might actually do that.

"Now can you tell us what he's trying to hide?" Benjamin asked her.

"No," Diana faced it head-on, "I promised him I wouldn't say."

Seeing her like this, Benjamin and Daphne didn't press further.

They planned to find a time to talk to Louis.

Marriage was a very important matter and needed to be taken seriously.

That afternoon.

During Benjamin and Daphne's nap time, Diana called Louis and whispered, "The jig is up."

Louis replied in a flat tone, "I see."

Diana was affected by his lack of emotional response. "Just this?"

"Mom and Dad have always been smart. Even though your acting is good, it's hard to come up with a logically sound lie," Louis had anticipated this from the start, which was why he was so calm. "It's normal for them to find something wrong."

"Still your fault," Diana grumbled.

Why blame him?

Diana quickly explained, "If you hadn't taken my nutrients when we were in Mom's womb, I wouldn't have trouble even making up a lie."

Among the younger generation, she was considered very smart, able to quickly understand and absorb whatever she learned.

But even so, she was still far behind her brother.

While others excelled in one field, he excelled in multiple fields simultaneously.

On the surface, he was a business tycoon managing a company, but in reality, he was also a prized student of many international masters, surpassing them, just like their mom in her younger days.

Despite being multi-talented, he was humble and low-key.

To this day, besides her and their parents, no one knew Louis was a treasure trove of talents.

"This is good," Louis accepted her explanation, his words unusually affectionate. "If I'm a bit more capable, I can protect you for a lifetime."

Diana pretended to be disgusted but felt warm inside. "Ew. You're giving me goosebumps."

Louis's eyes softened.

He cared deeply for Diana.

Though they didn't often express their feelings, occasionally bickering, she held a very important place in his life.

"Think of a better excuse in the next couple of days," Diana got back to the point, reminding him, "Mom and Dad plan to talk to you about this."
