Chapter 495 An End

But hey, that simple wedding had everyone feeling all warm and fuzzy, like they were floating on a cloud of love.

Later that afternoon, as they were leaving the base, someone came up to Benjamin and said, "Benjamin, someone tried to sneak in this morning, but we stopped him."

"Who was that?"

"Check this out." The team member whipped out his phone and showed a pic he snapped.

Benjamin took a look and froze when he saw Charles all dressed up.

Right then, Daphne came out, laughing and joking with Daisy and the crew. She saw Benjamin's serious face and strolled over. "What's up?"

"Charles showed up this morning," Benjamin said, not hiding anything, and handed the phone back.

Daphne was caught off guard for a sec.

Benjamin grabbed her hand. "Let's bounce."

"Sure thing."

They left the base together.

But guess what? Charles was hanging around outside the villa.

Charles didn't want to mess up Daphne's big day, but he just couldn't help himself.

He pressed his lips together, eyes locked on Daphne. After a moment, he finally said, "Can we talk?"

Daphne looked at Benjamin, waiting for his cue.

"Go ahead," Benjamin said, ruffling her hair with a smile. He knew some things needed to be settled. "I'll be right here."

"Okay." Daphne was cool as a cucumber.

She led Charles to a nearby garden, where Benjamin could still see them.

Charles's lips twitched, and he finally said what he came to say, "Congrats on your wedding."

"Thanks," Daphne replied.

Charles's lips tightened into a thin line.

He had so much to say, but now that they were face-to-face, the words just wouldn't come out.

"Don't get stuck in the past," Daphne said, hoping Charles could move on. "Your special someone might be just around the corner."

Charles wanted to say there would be no one else, but all that came out was, "Okay."

They talked for about ten minutes.

Charles barely said anything, keeping all his deep thoughts buried.

"I wish you all the happiness," he said, standing up and sealing his heart shut.

"Thanks."

And just like that, the chapter between Charles and Daphne closed.

Benjamin was waiting for her. After she finished talking with Charles, he took her hand, and they headed home, ready to start planning for kids.

As for Charles, after his chat with Daphne, he met up with Austin.

Charles thought seeing Daphne get married would crush him, but when he saw her happy with Benjamin, he realized that when love was real, he could let go and wish them well.

Austin poured him a glass of wine and said, "If you wanna cry, just let it out. I won't judge."

"Cry for what?"

"Didn't you go to Daphne and Benjamin's wedding?" Austin asked, noticing Charles seemed more chill. "Wasn't it tough seeing them together? Didn't you wanna crash the wedding?"

Charles took a sip of his drink, clearly not in the mood for small talk.

"I feel you," Austin said, dead serious. "If Daisy married some other dude with our kid, I'd crash that wedding too."

"They're a good match," Charles finally said after mulling it over.

Looking back, he and Daphne were too much alike in all the wrong ways.

Both of them were quiet, quick to anger, bad at talking things out, and even worse at opening up.

But Benjamin? He was different. Charles felt a weird sense of peace knowing Daphne was with him.

Austin looked shocked. "Do you even hear yourself?"

Charles didn't answer, just took another sip of his drink.

"Do you really think Daphne and Benjamin are a good match, or are you just trying to convince yourself?" Austin pressed.

Charles replied, "I really think so."

Austin stared at him for a moment, then finally seemed to relax.

Austin shared his own thoughts, stuff he'd picked up from Daisy over the past few months. "I also think Benjamin and Daphne are way better together than you and her."

"Why?" Charles asked, cool as a cucumber.

"You two are too hard-headed; you need someone softer," Austin said.

Even though Austin hadn't spent much time with Benjamin, he could tell they were a good fit.

Just seeing how Daphne acted around him was proof enough.

"Don't rush into marriage next time," Austin advised sincerely. "You gotta spend time together to see if you're really compatible."

Charles didn't respond, lost in thought.

Austin asked again, "You're not planning to stay single forever, are you?"

"We'll see." Charles didn't want to think about it, leaving future stuff for the future.

But staying single forever? Nah, the Lancelot Group's shareholders would never let that slide.

He was the face of the Lancelot Group, after all.

"Some folks at the Lancelot Group won't just let you 'wait and see,'" Austin said, knowing more than he let on despite spending most of his time with Daisy. "Daphne's marriage will get back to them soon enough."

They'd been secretly married before, and not many people knew.

But after Daphne's last incident, Charles had posted a video online, making their past marriage public knowledge.

Now that Daphne was married again, Charles would likely face some heat too.

"One step at a time," Charles said calmly. "They won't do anything right away."

At least not for the next month.

"Just a heads-up, no matter how much pressure you're under, don't marry just anyone." Austin didn't want him making the same mistake again.

Charles didn't respond. "Mind your own business."

"My business is going great. Molly can already call me dad," Austin said happily. "Daisy talks to me more than ever."

"Do your parents know? Want me to tell them?"

"Do you have to be so ruthless?" Austin gave him a look, feeling a bit overwhelmed. "Is it necessary to take it out on me just because the girl you like married someone else?"

Charles thought Austin was being ridiculous and pulled out his phone without hesitation. "You think I won't tell your parents right now?"

Austin immediately backed down, "I was wrong!"
