Chapter 622 Applying for the Boyfriend Position

"But who I choose to be with is none of your business. You don't get to decide that for me," Daisy said, staring at Austin's angry face.

Austin's hands clenched, and his emotions were all over the place. He knew he didn't have the right to choose for her, but he selfishly didn't want her with anyone else.

"I can't choose for you," Austin finally said, "but I can show you who they really are. I can make you see that when push comes to shove, they'll all choose themselves."

Whether it was that young, handsome guy or the male lead from Daisy's last movie, as long as they were given enough resources, they'd bail. After all, their careers were just taking off, and no one would risk their future.

"Oh," Daisy replied casually.

Austin was puzzled by her response.

"Why not choose me?" Austin grabbed Daisy's arm and started listing his merits, "I'm good-looking, gentle, considerate, always thinking about you and Molly, and I can provide for the family. Most importantly, I'm Molly's dad."

"Want to give it a shot?" Austin asked her.

Daisy gazed at his handsome features. If it were the Austin from a few years ago, she would have turned him down without a second thought. But the Austin now had smoothed out his rough edges. He was good to both her and Molly.

Yet, there was still something holding her back."You're great," Daisy said bluntly, "but I don't really like your family."

"I understand," Austin replied thoughtfully. "If you don't want to deal with them, you don't have to. I'll handle visiting them on my own time."

Over the years, Dennis and Selene never really got along with Daisy. It was normal for Daisy not to like them; Austin wouldn't like them either if he were in her shoes.

"Molly will only take my last name," Daisy brought up another issue.

"You've mentioned that before," Austin said reassuringly. "Molly can keep your last name unless you and Molly decide otherwise."

"Then," Daisy considered for a moment before speaking, "do you want to apply for the position of boyfriend?"

Austin's eyes lit up with excitement. He was thrilled. "You mean..."

"Do you want to?" Daisy asked again.

"Yes!" Austin answered quickly.

Before Daisy could react, Austin pulled her into his arms, his handsome face beaming with joy.

Daisy pushed him away, feeling he was hugging too tightly, saying, "You're squeezing me too hard."

"Sorry," Austin quickly let go and apologized, then looked at her for a moment before asking, "Can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead," Daisy's expression softened.

"How long does it take for a boyfriend to become a husband?" Austin was particularly curious. "Do I need to hit any milestones?"

Daisy responded with a hint of playfulness. "Depends on my mood."

Austin asked, "How's your mood now?"

"Average."

"Can I become your husband sooner?"

"Do you believe I'll revoke your boyfriend status?" Daisy felt Austin was pushing his luck.

"No, I'm happy being your boyfriend," Austin said, content for the moment. "Being your boyfriend is good."

Daisy glanced at him thoughtfully. After a while, she seemed to think of something and hesitated before speaking. "There's something I want to ask you."

"Go ahead," Austin said, still beaming with joy.

"Is there any other reason your mom wants to see me?" Daisy couldn't help but be cautious given their history.

"No, don't worry," Austin reassured her. "She just wants to apologize for the past and to say she approves of us being together."

"If she wants to see Molly, you have to refuse," Daisy said firmly.

Regardless of whether Austin's words were true, Daisy had to remain cautious. She didn't mind meeting his mother herself, but she didn't want Molly to be affected.

"Got it," Austin said, rubbing her head and then hugging her.

In the following days, Austin was constantly running back and forth. After resolving everything, he sent Selene back and arranged to meet Kaitlyn, who was in Gedser for a lecture.

The meeting happened to be on a Saturday. Kaitlyn looked at Austin sitting across from her and smiled. "How did you find the time to meet me?"

"I have something to discuss with you." Austin got straight to the point.

Kaitlyn was composed. "Go ahead."

"Did you have someone spread rumors at Molly's school that she's an illegitimate child?" Austin asked, watching Kaitlyn closely.

Kaitlyn looked confused and said, "What do you mean?"

"Two years ago, when my parents came to Gedser to see Daisy, you took time off to have dinner with them," Austin clarified.

Kaitlyn was initially puzzled, then her expression changed as if she had thought of something. But it was only for a moment before she returned to normal.

"Why would I do such a thing?" Kaitlyn denied it. "And why would I do that?"

"Why did you lie to me about Daisy back then? The reason is the same." Austin had already guessed based on Kaitlyn's earlier expression.

"I mistook Daisy's file for someone else's, which is why I gave you the wrong information," Kaitlyn explained, appearing very normal. "Didn't I already explain that to you?"

Austin pressed his lips together in silence.

Kaitlyn continued, "Or do you still believe that I was jealous and didn't want you to be with her, so I did that?"

"Isn't that the case?" Austin was certain. After all, he had overheard Kaitlyn talking about it with her friends, so there was no chance of a misunderstanding.

"Even if it was, why would I target Molly?" Kaitlyn spoke seriously, without any flaws. "That year, I was already married to my husband. There's no way I would do that."

"So you're not admitting it?" Austin asked.

Kaitlyn was righteous. "Why should I admit to something I didn't do?"

"I'll find evidence to prove it," Austin said, intentionally putting pressure on Kaitlyn, his eyes darkening, "I know a hacker who can check chat records and uncover everything."

Austin had previously investigated and found nothing suspicious about Kaitlyn's whereabouts. If that was the case, it could only mean she had someone spread rumors through chat.

"What do you mean?" Kaitlyn was a bit anxious, showing displeasure, "Even if I caused a misunderstanding between you and Daisy back then, you don't have to blame everything on me!"
