Chapter 435 I Love You, Daisy
"Your blacklisting? That has been been over for a while," Austin blurted out.
Daisy stopped in her tracks, eyes wide with confusion. "Wait, what? What are you talking about?"
"Right after I blacklisted you, someone shelled out big bucks to buy your freedom," Austin admitted, feeling a pang of guilt. "You're free now. No one's got you blacklisted anymore."
Daisy's heart skipped a beat. "Who did that?" she asked, her voice trembling.
"Pretty sure it was Daphne who pulled the strings," Austin guessed.
Austin wasn't entirely sure if it was Daphne. Back then, the higher-ups at the company called him, saying someone wanted to end Daisy's contract. He said no at first, but the other side had a top-notch lawyer who twisted their arm, and eventually, they had to let Daisy go.
"Look, I'm really sorry about everything that went down. I never meant to hurt you," Austin said, trying to come clean. "I made you get rid of the baby because I was told it would be dangerous for you."
At the time, Austin thought the baby wasn't his, but the real reason he pushed for the abortion was because he was scared for her health. He just didn't realize he'd been played.
"What's done is done. No point in digging it up," Daisy said firmly. "Molly and I are doing fine now. If you want to see her, just come by."
"And you?" Austin asked, his voice soft.
"What?" Daisy replied, a bit taken aback.
"Do you want to see me?" Austin asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Daisy's eyes flickered, and after a moment of silence, she said coldly, "We're just two people who know each other. It doesn't matter if we see each other or not."
She knew what Austin was getting at and knew that ever since she found out he had waited outside the delivery room, her feelings had wavered.
But she had to stood her ground; she and Austin just weren't meant to be.
"I want to see you," Austin said, his hands sweaty. "Every day, every night, every second, I want to see you."
Daisy cut him off, "Austin."
"I love you, Daisy," Austin confessed, his eyes burning with emotion. "Whether you still love me or not, I love you."
Those words threw Daisy's heart into chaos. She wanted to shut him down fast, but the words just wouldn't come out.
Austin didn't push her and continued, "I just need you to know that you're my one and only in my lifetime, and I'll always be Molly's dad."
"A lifetime is long, you..." Daisy started.
"A lifetime is long," Austin interrupted, knowing where she was headed. "But I only want to spend it with you and Molly."
Daisy hadn't expected this conversation today. When she got back to her room, her mind was still a mess.
Her marriage to Austin had shown her a lot. Love and passion were great, but for marriage, you needed compatibility too. And they just didn't have it.
Austin didn't leave; he wanted to see Daisy and Molly again.
When Daphne came down, she saw him sitting alone in the garden. When he saw her, he called out, "Daphne, can we talk?"
"What do you wanna talk about?" Daphne asked, her tone a bit softer than before. She used to straight-up hate the guy, but after the delivery room drama and his stint at the training camp, her opinion had mellowed. She knew Austin wasn't the same dude anymore; he'd actually grown up.
"I wanna win Daisy back, but she ain't feelin' me," Austin said, his mind all over the place. He looked at Daphne, desperate. "Can you help me out?"
Daphne wondered who on earth made him think she'd help him chase Daisy.
Austin seemed to read her mind and quickly added, "I can make you a witness. I'll hand over all my assets to her, and I'll treat her right for the rest of my life."
"Daisy's gotta make her own choices," Daphne said.
Austin's heart sank.
Speaking as an outsider, Daphne added, "Plus, you two just don't click."
"I know I messed up big time before," Austin admitted, genuinely. "But now, I really care about her, and I won't let anyone mess with her again."
"That's not what I meant," Daphne said.
"Then what?" Austin asked, confused.
"You and your family," Daphne said bluntly.
"What about them?" Austin asked, still puzzled.
"You know how your parents feel about Daisy and how much they hate her career," Daphne laid it out straight. "If she were with you, could you really protect her?"
"I can!" Austin said, trying to sound confident.
"No, you can't," Daphne shot back. "Honestly, you don't have the chops. Most of the Hill Group's success is your dad's doing. If they trash-talk Daisy, can you really stand up for her?"
Daphne continued, "Even if you could, Daisy doesn't wanna live under someone else's thumb. She craves freedom."
Hearing this, Austin went silent.
If he was as capable as Charles, he could confidently say he could do it. But he didn't.
Over the years, while Charles was busting his butt for the company, Austin was out partying and goofing off with his buddies.
Because of the big family and all the businesses, even if he slacked off, he never had to worry about money. And if things went south, Charles would bail him out.
But now, listening to Daphne, Austin realized what he was missing.
"I get it. Thanks." Austin seemed to have grown up in that moment and asked, "Can I hang around a bit longer? I wanna see Daisy and Molly again."
"That's up to you," Daphne replied.
Austin stayed the whole afternoon.
When Molly woke up, he held her for a while. After chatting with Daisy a bit, he left.
Before leaving, he handed Daisy a black card with no spending limit. He was determined to prove to her that he could make her happy and that he was someone she could rely on.
After he left, things went back to normal.
Around four or five in the afternoon, Daphne got a text from Benjamin asking when she'd be home.
Daphne: [I'm already home.]
Benjamin got up from the couch and searched the whole villa but couldn't find her. He texted back: [Why can't I see you?]
Daphne called him, and when she found out he was back, she notified Daisy and went to find him.
Her place was in Unit 6, and Benjamin's was in Unit 8.
