Chapter 213 Charles Hit Jesse

"What are you doing here?" Mark sensed the icy aura emanating from Charles and had a bad premonition. "Is that Ms. Murphy?"

Mark was very surprised.

Why was Jesse here with Ms. Murphy? And Ms. Murphy looked either drunk or something.

"Give her to me." Charles strode over to Jesse, his sharp features set in a stern expression.

"No." Jesse refused. "The boss and I have something to do."

"What business do you need to handle at a hotel?" Charles's tone was freezing. He was glad he arrived in time. "Don't think I don't know about your dirty deeds."

Charles had some understanding of how much Daphne trusted Jesse. Yet now, he believed Jesse had betrayed her for money.

Jesse was confused by Charles's accusation.

Mark also sensed something was off. "Boss, is there some misunderstanding?"

"Either you leave, or I'll have you sent to the police station to explain yourself to the cops." Charles's icy glare was as sharp as a knife.

Jesse stood there, unsure of how to react.

If he explained, there were surveillance cameras.

If he didn't explain, he would definitely be taken to the police station, causing more trouble for Daphne.

"Mark, call the police."

"Boss…"

"Call the police!"

"This must be a misunderstanding." Mark guessed what might be happening based on their attitudes. "Jesse is definitely not that kind of person."

Charles's knife-like gaze fell on him.

Mark was extremely nervous.

He could only tug at Jesse's arm. "Explain yourself!"

Charles kicked Jesse hard, not holding back at all.

Jesse, not expecting the physical attack, stumbled and fell back. Daphne, whom he had been supporting, was caught in Charles's arms.

Just as Jesse was about to say something, Daphne spoke quietly from Charles's embrace.

She resisted being in Charles's arms, but since they had gotten this far, they couldn't stop the act now.

"Take me away and don't cause trouble for Jesse," Daphne whispered so only Charles could hear. "We are playing along to catch the mastermind."

Charles stiffened.

Mark noticed the change in the atmosphere and was extremely nervous.

"Boss…"

"For the sake of being Mark's friend, I won't hold this against you today." Charles continued the act, "Take care of yourself."

With that, he carried Daphne out of the hotel.

Daphne felt exasperated. ‘Charles was doing this on purpose, right?’

"Boss." Mark wanted to explain for Jesse.

He could guarantee Jesse was not such a person.

Charles ignored him and simply said, "Let's go."

Mark, conflicted, could only follow Charles, but he said to Jesse, "Explain this to Charles and Ms. Murphy tomorrow. I believe this is a misunderstanding."

Jesse said nothing.

If he wanted to, he could probably take Daphne back.

But he noticed Daphne whispering to Charles, after which Charles told him to take care.

It seemed Daphne wanted them to separate for now due to a change in the situation.

Five minutes later, Charles and Mark had left the hotel with Daphne, without revealing their act.

Jesse was about to leave when a man stepped out from one of the rooms on the 23rd floor—the same man who had given Jesse a check earlier.

"Jesse, please wait." The man's voice was gentle.

Jesse turned to see him and frowned. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to see if you fulfilled our agreement."

"Daphne has already been taken by Charles."

"I know," the man replied with a slight smile. "But it doesn't matter. Daphne's trust in Mr. Lancelot is less than her trust in you."

"What do you mean?" Jesse pretended not to understand.

"Although Mr. Lancelot took Daphne away tonight, you can still act as if nothing happened tomorrow and go to her." The man suggested, "If Daphne asks about tonight, say you also passed out.

When she asks you to investigate, we'll provide you with a report of food poisoning. This way, Daphne will believe Charles was lying, and her trust in you will increase."

Jesse's cold face showed little expression.

He felt this mastermind knew too much about Daphne and Charles's relationship.

"Of course, offending Mr. Lancelot isn't something just anyone can do," the man added, seeing Jesse's silence. "If you can't manage, you can refuse, but the check I gave you will be void."

"Understood." Jesse walked away without further conversation.

After he left, the man made a call, reporting the night's events in full.

Meanwhile, Daphne was in the car with Charles.

Mark, in the driver's seat, was still concerned about Jesse, not wanting his boss to have too many prejudices against him. "Boss, I really think this is a misunderstanding. Jesse is someone with no desires; he wouldn't do such a thing."

"You trust him that much?" Charles glanced at Daphne, now feeling more relaxed.

"Yes." Mark was firm. "I'm willing to stake my future on it."

Hearing this, Daphne opened her eyes.

There were no cameras in the car, so she didn't worry about being seen.

She adjusted her posture and asked Mark, "Last time, it was a salary advance; this time, it's your future. What happened that night when you two drank?"

Mark was startled.

He quickly realized, "Ms. Murphy?!"

"Yes."

"You... you're okay?" Mark was confused seeing her normal expression.

"I'm fine." Daphne responded, curious about Jesse. "What happened that night?"

Mark instinctively looked at Charles.

Being tricked into talking again.

"What do you think?" He knew Jesse hadn't told Daphne the truth, so he casually said, "We drank, booked a room, slept, and went to work the next day."

"One bed?" Daphne asked.

"Of course not." Mark didn't think much. "One bed each."

Daphne's calm face showed a hint of doubt.

If so, then how to explain Mark's previous reaction?

"Ms. Murphy... don't look at me like that. Jesse and I are innocent." Mark felt compelled to clarify. "We're just brothers, pure friendship."
