Chapter 364 The Game Begins
They knew Charles from the Lancelot Group was a tough nut to crack when it came to business.
So, him suddenly bringing this up? Something was fishy.
"What, you don't believe me?" Charles raised an eyebrow.
"Mr. Lancelot, please, no jokes," the leader said. "You know our reputation. Doing business with us could ruin yours."
"Exactly why I came to you," Charles replied quietly.
"If you don't agree, I'll send you to the police. I have evidence of everything you've done."
Panic set in immediately.
"Fine, we'll do whatever you want."
"Tomorrow, a girl will come here," Charles said slowly. "I'll confess to her. If she refuses, you kill me."
They were stunned. Was Charles serious?
"Mr. Lancelot, please, no jokes," they pleaded, genuinely scared.
"I'm dead serious," Charles said, eyes intense. "If she says no, you act."
"No way, we can't do this."
"Right!"
"Killing is a crime."
"Mr. Lancelot, find someone else."
They all refused. This was Charles from the Lancelot Group! If anything happened to him, they'd never have peace.
"Haven't you committed enough crimes?" Charles's gaze pierced them. "If you don't agree, I'll tie you up and send you to the police. They'd love to have you."
Their anger flared, but they didn't dare act. Charles's bodyguards were top-notch fighters. They couldn't win.
"You're the CEO of the Lancelot Group, a Lancelot. If we harm you, we're doomed," the leader said. "Even if there's $200,000, so what?"
"Give it to your families," Charles said, eyes sweeping over them.
He chose them because they were already suspects in major cases. Using them and then handing them over to the police would be a service to the community. Plus, their families were innocent and deserved better.
They exchanged looks. No escape. They'd hidden well before, but now they were caught.
"Alright," the leader agreed. "As long as you keep your promise, we'll do it."
"You're crazy!" someone objected. "How can we trust him? Have you thought about the consequences?"
The leader said, "I trust Mr. Lancelot."
The dissenter said, "If you want to do it, you do it. I'm out!"
He tried to run, but Charles's bodyguards stopped him.
For someone didn't cooperate, Charles had no hesitation. He had the bodyguards send him to the police.
"I've said what needs to be said," Charles started again, "but there's one more thing."
"Go ahead," the leader replied.
"No matter what happens tomorrow, you must not harm that girl," Charles emphasized.
"No problem," they all agreed. "We promise."
Charles nodded and moved them to another abandoned warehouse.
After ensuring the bodyguards were watching them, Charles pulled aside the team leader. "Those guys are fugitives. After tomorrow, hand them over to the police."
"Got it," the team leader, a wiry but energetic man, replied.
"They're dangerous. When Daphne arrives tomorrow, protect her at all costs," Charles instructed. "Make sure she's safe."
"Understood," the team leader confirmed.
With that, Charles let them get to work.
The bodyguards didn't know the details of Charles's conversation with the fugitives. They just thought he was staging some elaborate act, so they didn't question him.
Daphne was clueless about all this. After reading Charles's text, she worked in her study until 10 PM, then went to bed.
At 8 AM the next day, Daphne got a message from Charles asking her to come downstairs.
She dressed casually in a mid-length coat, looking tall, beautiful, and elegant.
Following Charles's instructions, she went to the underground parking lot.
There, a Lancelot Group bodyguard in black stood by a car. "Ms. Murphy, Mr. Lancelot asked me to pick you up," he said politely.
"Let's go," Daphne said, getting into the car.
The bodyguard handed her a blindfold. "Please put this on."
Puzzled, Daphne texted Charles. When she confirmed it was his idea, she put on the blindfold, thinking it was just part of the game. She figured Brian would show up soon, and everything would be clear.
The car started moving, and Daphne's vision went dark.
She wasn't nervous. She could handle the dark and any sudden danger.
About an hour later, she was forced to switch cars, and then switched two more times.
"Ms. Murphy, you can take off the blindfold now," the bodyguard said, opening the car door. "Walk 1000 feet forward, and Mr. Lancelot will be waiting for you."
"Okay," Daphne said, removing the blindfold and stepping out. She found herself in a flat wasteland with mountains in the distance.
"Someone will pick you and Mr. Lancelot up at 2 PM," the bodyguard added.
Daphne nodded, not asking more questions, knowing the bodyguard wouldn't answer.
After surveying the area, she walked in the direction indicated.
The bodyguard drove off.
Daphne was puzzled. 'Why is Charles playing this game in such a place?' she wondered.
