Chapter 431 Having a Baby

Daphne stared at the long string of numbers, totally clueless on how to react.

Was Chris just naive or straight-up dumb?

After a quick pause, she shot him a message: [What's the name on the bank account?]

Chris, all hyped about the $2 million, didn't think twice and sent his name: [Chris Adams.]

Daphne was about to reply when Chris yanked the message back.

He watched the "typing" indicator, feeling like a total idiot. How could he have sent his own name?

While he was mulling over this, Benjamin hit him with a snarky message: [What a genius you are! I really didn't see that coming!]

Chris called him right away.

Benjamin picked up.

"You guys knew it was me?" Chris blurted out, still not believing his top-notch acting got busted.

"Only you would do something this dumb," Benjamin snapped. "Looks like I need to talk to Sierra and have her rethink being with you."

"What do you mean?" Chris shot back, fuming.

"The intelligence of a partner affects the next generation."

Chris was livid.

Sierra sat on the couch, her petite frame and big, bright black eyes making her look all innocent. She asked, "You really don't know they're messing with you?"

"I..."

'Of course, I don't!'

Chris wanted to say that, but he knew it would backfire big time.

Getting chewed out by Sierra was one thing; he was scared she'd actually think he was dumb and dump him.

So he switched gears, speaking super seriously, "How could I not know? I just saw they were bored and thought I'd mess with them. Who knew they'd get so into it?"

Sierra gave him a skeptical look.

She knew how dumb Chris was.

During their time together, Chris always thought she liked the heir of the Fisher family. How stupid.

Sierra didn't respond, just turned on the TV instead.

"Don't assume everyone's as dumb as you," Benjamin snapped. "Sierra's smarter than you."

Chris wanted to deck Benjamin.

"She's my girlfriend. Of course, she's smart," Chris shot back. "But does Daphne know your nickname? Should I spill the beans?"

"Try it," Benjamin said coldly.

"Bring it," Chris said, egging him on.

Then he hung up with a snap.

Benjamin, like he knew what was coming, put his phone down and grabbed Daphne's, blocking and deleting the new contact.

Chris sent Daphne a message, only to find he was off her friend list. He was fuming.

He wanted to get back at Benjamin, but he couldn't. Every time he tried, he ended up worse off.

After blocking and deleting the contact, Benjamin didn't give it another thought. Whatever Chris tried, he could handle it.

He was more focused on how Daphne planned to spend the weekend with him.

Once he got back to the Reynolds Group, he wouldn't be able to come back every day.

The road from the Reynolds Group to here was a nightmare. To be dramatic, it could take from the afternoon rush hour until the next morning.

Daphne was kicking him out without any compensation? No way!

"Daphne," Benjamin called out softly.

"Yeah?" Daphne turned to him.

"Aren't you gonna say something?" Benjamin asked.

"Like what?" Daphne looked puzzled.

"Kicking me out without any compensation?" Benjamin asked, a smirk playing on his lips. "Once I'm over there, I can only come back once a week."

Daphne nodded. "I know."

That was exactly what she wanted. Only when he wasn't home could she plan the proposal without worrying about being discovered.

"Don't worry, I'll come see you when I can," Daphne added.

Benjamin didn't hold his breath.

He knew Daphne wasn't the type who needed to see someone every day. Expecting her to come to him was a long shot.

And Benjamin was right. Since he started working at the Reynolds Group, Daphne hadn't visited him.

In no time, a few more days flew by.

Benjamin was still grinding at the Reynolds Group.

He had planned to come back this Friday afternoon, but Daphne shot that down.

Daphne called him from the hospital, saying, "I'm not coming back this week. Daisy just went into labor, and I need to stay with her for the next few days."

No matter how the delivery went, she needed to be there for Daisy. Daisy's parents weren't around, and she had no partner; she only had Daphne as a friend.

Benjamin got it and replied, "Okay. Don't overdo it."

Daphne acknowledged and then hung up.

To make sure Daisy's delivery went smoothly, Daphne had set things up early on.

When she moved Daisy, she picked a private hospital with top-notch medical resources, closely connected to Richard, with the best medical tech and staff.

While Daphne was waiting, a familiar figure showed up in the hallway.

Since she was the only one there, Daphne saw him—Austin.

Daphne frowned, not sure how to feel.

As Daisy's friend, she didn't like Austin being there.

But Daphne knew Daisy hadn't completely forgotten Austin. His presence could stir up old feelings.

"I won't disturb her," Austin said before Daphne could speak. "I just want to make sure she's safe, then I'll leave."

Daphne stayed quiet and kept waiting.

The wait was brutal. Austin sat there with sweaty palms, tense since he arrived.

Luckily, everything went smoothly. When the nurse opened the door and came out with the baby, Austin jumped up and rushed over, his eyes full of worry and panic: "How's the mother? Is she okay? Was it smooth?"

Three questions in a row.

Both Daphne and the nurse looked at him.

The nurse didn't keep them waiting long and said, "Everything went well. They are both safe. She had a baby girl."

"That's good." Austin sighed in relief.

His eyes fell on the baby in the nurse's arms, full of tenderness.

Though the baby was wrinkled, he was sure she'd grow up to be as beautiful as Daisy.

The nurse took the baby away, and soon Daisy was wheeled out.
