Chapter 614 Couldn't Refuse His Wealth and Fame
"Elara..." Jesse's voice was so soft, it felt like it might shatter if he spoke any louder.
Elara hugged him tight, her voice gentle and full of love. "I'm here."
Jesse didn't say anything, just held onto her. He stayed quiet for the rest of the night. Even as he slept, he clung to Elara like always, but he was way more silent.
Elara knew Jesse needed time to process everything about Rainey, so she didn't push him. She just stayed close, giving him warmth and security.
Meanwhile, Yasmin was getting roasted online, but no one had dug up her personal info yet.
Despite all the pressure, Yasmin went live to apologize. She didn't want Jesse to take legal action or deal with any compensation or jail time.
[You must be desperate for fame.]
[You're just riding the wave by linking yourself to the Phillips Group's president.]
[Shameless, trying to get with someone who already has a girlfriend?]
Seeing these comments, Yasmin felt a surge of anger but held it back. "It was his dad and my dad who wanted me to be with him, not me."
[Don't you know how to say no?]
[Come on, she wouldn't refuse. Jesse is the CEO of HorizonTech Group. How could she turn down his wealth and fame?]
[True, she used to post videos riding on others' fame. No surprise she has such a twisted worldview.]
The netizens were tearing Yasmin apart in her live stream. Yasmin was so mad her eyes filled with tears, but she didn't dare to fight back. It was a live stream, so one wrong word and she might not get another chance.
"I apologize to Jesse for what I did wrong before," Yasmin said, and then took a jab at some netizens. "I also promise that from now on, I won't curse others without understanding the situation, and I won't follow the crowd."
As soon as she said this, the live stream exploded.
Some people who had cursed Jesse before were now cursing Yasmin for mocking them, while others who had never cursed were saying those people had attacked without knowing the facts.
The live stream was total chaos.
Gavin was watching the live stream at Daphne's place and, seeing the comments, turned to Daphne. "Yasmin still hasn't let go of the fame."
"Ban her account tomorrow afternoon," Daphne said decisively, "to stop her from using Jesse's situation to get more attention."
"Don't worry, it's all set," Gavin assured her.
Daphne nodded.
Gavin looked at Diana and Louis watching TV and asked Daphne, "I heard Diana gets along well with Lon. Should we think about getting them engaged when they're older?"
"No," Daphne shot back bluntly.
"Why not?" Gavin was puzzled. "They play together every day in kindergarten and hang out during holidays. They get along great."
"Kids are just being kids," Daphne knew Diana well. "Liking someone now doesn't mean they'll like them when they grow up, and even if they do, it might not be love."
Daphne generally gave her kids a lot of freedom. As long as they had good character, kept up with their studies, and knew how to protect themselves, Daphne didn't interfere much in other matters.
"I'm really envious of you," Gavin admitted, genuinely fond of kids.
"That's because you didn't seize the opportunity back then," Daphne said. "If you had gotten along well with Ms. Silverwood, you'd have a child now."
Gavin quickly changed the subject.
Seeing Gavin's expression, Daphne suddenly thought of a possibility. "Are you missing her now?"
"Of course not," Gavin replied naturally. "I just think we weren't right for each other."
Hazel liked the mature and steady Gavin. But even now, he was still a bit playful and unserious. Someone like him didn't match Hazel.
"Where's Benjamin?" Gavin asked, noticing he hadn't seen Benjamin since he arrived.
"Efren retired, so they went out to celebrate," Daphne said, giving Benjamin freedom in these matters too. "He probably won't be back for a while."
"Jesse's father..." Yasmin in the live stream suddenly mentioned.
Daphne and Gavin's attention shifted.
The live stream comments were now all asking about Jesse being sent away.
"She won't reveal the truth, will she?" Gavin saw Yasmin hesitating and asked word by word, "If she does, all of Jesse's efforts will be in vain."
Daphne glanced at it and spoke calmly, "She won't."
Gavin paused, then understood. In this situation, the whole internet thought Yasmin was just a liar seeking attention. If Yasmin said Jesse was actually abandoned, people would think she was lying, and few would believe her.
Yasmin was indeed considering whether to tell the truth. But seeing the comments, she gave up and finally continued, "I'm not really sure about Jesse's family situation. I just often heard Eugene mention Jesse but never met him."
The live stream lasted for two hours and ended after eleven.
After confirming Yasmin hadn't caused any trouble, Daphne went upstairs to sleep. Gavin, on the other hand, drove home.
Jesse didn't know about any of this. After a night of adjustment, he had fully recovered. He and Elara got up, tidied themselves up, and bought some things before heading to Alexander's house.
When Jesse arrived, Daphne, Benjamin, Diana, and Louis were already there.
