Chapter 215 Did You Know What the Most Dangerous Relationship Was?
Seeing Charles about to say something inappropriate, Mark immediately changed the subject. "By the way, Ms. Murphy, how come Jesse is with you there?"
"We are on business," Daphne replied, "acting."
With just a few simple words, Mark also got a rough idea of the situation.
When Daphne spoke to Charles before, only Charles heard it, and Mark was unaware.
Now that Mark understood, he didn't ask much and said, "Whose house are we going to now?"
"Mine."
"Mine."
Charles and Daphne said in unison.
Mark pursed his lips, unsure of whose words to follow.
"According to your script, you and Jesse are acting, and you are currently in a state of unconsciousness." Charles tried hard to bring Daphne back to his house. " Since I brought you out, I will take you back to my place to look after you."
"You should take me home," Daphne retorted.
"I don't know the password to your house," Charles said, leaving Daphne unable to argue.
Daphne furrowed her brow, a hint of emotion coloring her usually indifferent eyes.
She didn't want to go to Charles's house, but if she got out of Charles's car at this moment, once the person behind the scenes saw the surveillance footage, he would know that she and Jesse were acting.
Without a notebook by her side, she had no way to disrupt the surveillance system.
"In that case, I'll just drive straight to Boss's house," Mark said specifically to Daphne.
Seeing her nod, Mark started the car and drove away.
Charles stared at the back of Mark's head, deciding to have a serious talk with Mark later about who his boss really was and who was paying his salary.
Not long after the car left the parking lot, Daphne saw Jesse's call coming in.
She answered without hesitation, "Jesse."
Hearing her affectionate address to Jesse, Charles had a cold look in his eyes.
"Ms.Murphy, who knows the relationship between you and Charles?" Jesse answered the call via Bluetooth while driving.
Daphne paused and asked, "Why are you asking that?"
"Not long after you left, someone came out of the room on the 23rd floor and said something to me," Jesse explained clearly with a crisp voice. "He seems to know a lot about your relationship with Charles."
Daphne asked, "What did he say?"
"He asked me to continue looking for you tomorrow. If you ask about tonight, say it was a coma caused by food poisoning, and they will help fake a poisoning report," Jesse said, "He is confident that you will trust me and not Charles."
Daphne glanced towards Charles and Jesse, and she would indeed lean towards Jesse.
This person behind the scenes was using her biases to achieve their goals.
Jesse asked, "What's our next step?"
"You should follow what he told you." Daphne had been thinking seriously all along, trying to find a solution to the situation.
"Okay." Jesse was very receptive to Daphne's words. "Where are you now? Do you want me to come pick you up?"
"No need." Daphne felt helpless. "if you come, it will be too obvious. Come to Charles's house tomorrow morning to pick me up."
Upon hearing this, Charles's nervous heart finally began to settle down.
He was truly afraid that Daphne might jump out of the car halfway.
However, Jesse fell silent.
Daphne asked, "Hello?"
Jesse said, "Ms. Murphy."
Daphne asked, "What's up?"
"Do you know what the most dangerous relationship is?" Jesse was serious.
"What?" Daphne asked.
"Exes." Jesse was very serious, with no hint of joking. "if you go back with him, what will you do if he bullies you?"
Daphne paused for a moment and calmly replied, "He can't bully me."
Charles was skilled, but if she really fought him, it would be a draw at most; she wouldn't be at a disadvantage.
"Men have many thoughts, so many that you can't guard against them all." Jesse completely saw Daphne as a naive little bunny, forgetting what she looked like in a fight. "You're facing Charles."
Suddenly, Daphne didn't know how to respond.
After a moment of silence.
She spoke, "I'll have Kevin come pick me up later. You go back now."
"Okay," Jesse agreed quickly.
Watching her hang up the phone, Charles furrowed his brow, a chill emanating from him.
'Does she want to leave?' he thought.
Charles asked, "Are you leaving?"
"Yes," Daphne replied calmly.
She found Kevin's contact information and called him. After giving him some instructions and providing an address, she hung up.
Charles watched her make these arrangements, feeling like a huge weight was pressing on his heart, making it hard for him to breathe.
'Doesn't She really want to stay with me, even if it is just for one night?' he thought.
"After the third traffic light intersection ahead, find a place without surveillance cameras to drop me off," Daphne told Mark.
Mark instinctively obeyed. "Okay."
Charles's eyes suddenly turned cold.
Mark felt a chill down his spine, but he didn't think much about it and drove steadily.
"If you get off now, what will you do if you get exposed tomorrow?" Charles could only bring up these matters.
"It won't happen," Daphne said calmly, "if you don't say anything, no one will know."
Where there were risks, she had Kevin make preparations.
She could leave safely.
"Did you suddenly change your mind because you're worried about Jesse?" This was the only reason Charles could think of.
"No." Daphne's responses had always been straightforward and cold. "I simply don't want to spend the night with you."
Charles's breath sank.
The atmosphere inside the car suddenly became terrifyingly tense.
Mark didn't dare to say a word, afraid that any wrong word might upset Charles.
During the rest of the journey, the car was silent. After passing the third traffic light intersection, Mark pulled over to the side, and Daphne got out of the car.
This time, Charles didn't stop her.
He wasn't the kind of person to persist stubbornly, and he knew that no matter what he did or said at that moment, Daphne wouldn't change her mind because of him.
Once she made a decision, no one could change it.
"You two go ahead," Seeing that Mark hadn't spoken, Daphne said, "Kevin will be here soon."
"It's okay, we'll watch you get in the car," Mark said.
"Let's go," Charles said coldly.
"Are you sure?" Mark asked.
Charles remained silent, his eyes devoid of any warmth, his previous emotions replaced by coldness.
Mark shivered all over, not daring to go against Charles's command. After telling Daphne to call if there was anything, he started the car and drove away.
On the way.
Charles had been holding back his anger all night. He couldn't find a way to vent and directed it all at Mark. "If you like Daphne so much, why don't you work for her?"
"Don't you like Ms. Murphy?" Mark countered, skillfully avoiding the question.
"Have I been too lenient with you recently, making you think I'm easy to talk to?" Charles's mind was filled with the relaxed look on Daphne's face when she was on the phone. How much she trusted her assistant, Jesse, to have such an expression.
