Chapter 365 I Went Crazy the Moment You Rejected Me

With these doubts swirling, Daphne picked up her pace. After a short walk, she spotted an abandoned warehouse nearby.

Seeing no one around, she headed towards it.

She started imagining all sorts of bad scenarios, like Charles planning to kidnap her or force her into something.

With these thoughts, Daphne stepped into the warehouse. It was a mess—dust everywhere and cobwebs on the old junk.

She frowned and walked further in. That's when she saw Charles tied to a chair with a few men standing around him.

For some reason, those men looked kind of familiar.

"You're here," Charles said with a smile, like he'd been waiting for her.

Daphne took it all in and asked, "What's going on?"

She thought, 'Kidnapping? Doesn't seem like it. Charles texted me, and his bodyguard brought me here.'

"As you can see, I've been kidnapped," Charles said casually.

"If you were really kidnapped, your bodyguard wouldn't have brought me here," Daphne said seriously. "The kidnappers would have called me."

"I had them tie me up," Charles admitted.

His eyes locked on her, like he wanted to remember every detail. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

"Is this some kind of game?" Daphne asked.

"Yes," Charles confessed. "If you don't want to be with me, they'll kill me, and you'll never have to deal with me again."

"Stop messing around," Daphne said, not in the mood for games. "Come back with me."

She walked towards Charles, knowing the men wouldn't really hurt him since he arranged this.

"Don't move!" one of the men said, pulling out a knife. "Take another step, and we'll hurt him."

"If you hurt him, you'll face legal trouble," Daphne said, not stopping. "Leave now, and we'll forget this happened."

The man said, "I said don't move!"

He slashed at Charles's neck, leaving a red mark.

Daphne's eyes widened, thinking, 'How dare they?'

"They're fugitives," Charles said, unfazed. "They're not afraid of crimes. I promised them $200,000 for their families."

"You're insane!" Daphne snapped.

She remembered their crimes. No wonder they looked familiar; she'd seen their names on a wanted list.

"I am crazy," Charles said, smiling. "I went crazy when you rejected me."

Daphne's heart raced. She had to protect Charles while keeping these criminals at bay.

"Daphne," Charles said softly, eyes locked on her. "If today was my last day, would you be with me?"

"We'll talk later," Daphne replied, not daring to refuse outright, fearing he might be serious.

"I'll give you five seconds to decide," Charles pressed. "If you don't answer, I'll take it as a no."

He started counting. "Five."

"Don't do anything stupid," Daphne pleaded.

"Four," Charles continued, ignoring her.

"Charles!" she called out.

"Three."

"Don't joke with your life; nothing's worth that," she tried to reason.

"Two," he said, undeterred.

Realizing he was serious, Daphne glanced at the four men, then moved her right hand, revealing a custom-made playing card.

"One," Charles said.

Daphne didn't agree.

Charles wondered if she'd feel sad or regretful if he was killed.

Seeing her silence, the criminal followed through, stabbing at Charles's chest.

A sharp wind cut through the air, and the knife-wielder's wrist was slashed, the knife clattering to the ground.

Daphne seized the moment, rushing forward. The desperate criminals, enraged, forgot Charles's instructions.

The leader, clutching his cut wrist, cursed, "Grab her!"

Charles's eyes flashed with fierceness. Before he could call his bodyguards, Daphne was already fighting the men skillfully.

Four against one, and she had the upper hand.

Watching Daphne beat the men, Charles was both surprised and impressed. As expected of her.

Daphne kicked the last man into a pile of debris with a heavy thud.

Everyone was stunned, thinking, 'Who the hell is this crazy woman, and how is she so good at this?'

"Do you have bodyguards nearby?" Daphne asked Charles, seeing the men were down for now.

Seeing his plan fall apart, Charles admitted, "Yes."

"Have them arrest these men and take them to the police," Daphne demanded.

Charles agreed. "Okay."

His bodyguards emerged from hiding, giving Daphne an admiring look before arresting the four men.

As they were taken away, the men howled.

Charles, however, only had eyes for Daphne.

"Do you know you almost died just now?" Daphne said, untying him.

The criminal's earlier actions clearly aimed to kill Charles. If she hadn't acted quickly, she didn't want to think about the consequences.

Charles, unfazed, felt calm with her so close. "I know," he said gently.
