Chapter 391 I'm the One Who Relies on Her

Benjamin thought back to what Mira had said on the phone that night, and he was totally over it. "What are you doing here?" he asked, sounding all detached.

"I came here just to find you," Mira said, throwing a glance at Daphne in the passenger seat.

Today, she was on a mission to blow Daphne's cover and show Benjamin that his girlfriend was bad news.

"What do you want?" Benjamin asked, not really caring.

"Talking here kinda sucks. How about your place?" Mira suggested, not knowing Benjamin had blocked her that day.

Benjamin shut that down quick; that place was a gift from Daphne. Since Mira had trashed Daphne, no way was she stepping foot in there.

"Wait here a sec," Benjamin said, trying to figure out how Mira even knew he lived here. "I'll park and be right back."

Mira was totally confused. It was freezing out; why did he want her to wait outside? Wasn't he supposed to be a gentleman?

Benjamin didn't say more and drove into the underground parking lot.

This place had top-notch security. If you weren't on the list, you weren't getting in, so Mira was stuck outside.

Daphne picked up on the weird vibes between Benjamin and Mira and asked, "You two don't get along?"

"Yeah," Benjamin said flatly, "but her parents and mine are tight. Ignoring her would be awkward. I'll go talk to her after I park."

He didn't really care, but he had to think about Henry and Anouk.

"Want to come with?" Benjamin asked Daphne.

He knew Daphne could be sensitive, so he never kept secrets from her. He loved her openly and honestly.

Daphne thought for a moment and said, "No, you two talk. She seems to have something important to say. If I'm there, it might mess things up."

"Daphne," Benjamin said seriously, "you're my girlfriend."

"I know," Daphne replied.

"Unless it's some top-secret stuff, there's nothing you need to avoid," Benjamin insisted.

Daphne paused, not sure what to say.

"Come with me," Benjamin decided for her, wanting to reassure her.

Daphne couldn't argue and got out of the car with him. Even in a relationship, there needs to be some boundaries. She wasn't the controlling type, not even close.

Even if Benjamin met Mira alone, she wouldn't overthink it. She trusted him.

Benjamin knew what Daphne was thinking. Holding her hand in his warm, dry palm, he walked out step by step.

Mira waited outside for five minutes before seeing Benjamin come out, and when she saw Daphne with him, she had a look of understanding.

In her mind, Daphne must have come along because she didn't trust Benjamin meeting her alone.

"Benjamin!" Mira called out, running over.

Benjamin's vibe was totally detached, his tone shifting from lazy to straight-up indifferent. "What is it? Just spit it out."

Daphne blinked, glancing at Benjamin. His cold attitude made it clear their relationship was pretty rocky.

"Alright," Mira said, sounding helpless. Then she asked, "By the way, after that call got cut off, I couldn't reach you. Was your phone off or something?"

"I blocked you," Benjamin said bluntly.

"Let me formally introduce you," Benjamin said seriously, "Daphne, my girlfriend, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, the most important person in my life."

He made it clear to Mira where Daphne stood in his heart.

Then he turned to Daphne, "Mira, my dad's friend's daughter."

Just as Daphne was about to greet her politely, Mira jumped in, "You forgot one thing. I'm also your childhood friend."

"How did you know I live here?" Benjamin ignored her question.

"Henry and Anouk told me," Mira said seriously, not hiding anything.

Benjamin frowned slightly. Why would they tell her?

"Benjamin, why did you block me?" Mira asked, puzzled. "Aren't we close?"

"Just because our parents are close doesn't mean we have to be," Benjamin said more tactfully. "If there's nothing else, we'll head back."

"Wait!" Mira called out. She hadn't forgotten why she came here.

Both Benjamin and Daphne looked at her.

Mira pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and then slowly said, "Daphne, do you want to tell Benjamin yourself, or should I?"

"What are you talking about?" Daphne asked, confused.

"Stop pretending," Mira declared.

Holding Daphne's hand, Benjamin said in a colder voice, "Mira."

Just saying her name made Mira feel the pressure. At that moment, she realized Benjamin really cared about Daphne.

"I know you don't like me talking about Daphne," Mira said directly, "but do you really know her?"

Initially, she had just thought Daphne's name sounded familiar.

Then she remembered some news from a while ago about Daphne being with Charles and getting $300 million in a divorce settlement.

Benjamin was about to speak, but Daphne stopped him. "Let her talk."

"She was married to Charles," Mira said, "and got $300 million in the divorce. She's just someone who makes money by marrying rich guys. Maybe she's with you for your money." Mira spilled everything she knew.

"My name is Daphne Murphy," Daphne said.

"I know," Mira said indifferently.

"The Murphy Group belongs to my family," Daphne said simply.

Mira paused, all her words stuck in her throat.

"I know all of this," Benjamin said. Holding Daphne's hand, he spoke slowly to Mira, "But let me correct one thing."

"What?" Mira hadn't recovered from Daphne's identity.

"The house I live in and the job I have are all thanks to Daphne," Benjamin said lazily. "In other words, it's not that she's after my family's money. It's that I'm relying on her."
