Chapter 400 His Girl Deserves the Best
Daphne shoved him back, her cheeks turning pink. "You're cheating."
"Yeah, I'm cheating," Benjamin grinned, like, "What are you gonna do about it?"
Daphne thought Benjamin was a sly fox, always a handful.
"If you try to return me again, next time I won't just kiss you," Benjamin said, leaning in close, his voice smooth. "I'll marry you, and you won't be able to get rid of me."
Daphne's mind wandered. "You wanna get hitched?"
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to go on.
"Is it 'cause your family's on your case or..." Daphne trailed off.
Benjamin was already thirty, so it made sense he'd be itching to tie the knot.
"Or what?" Benjamin asked.
"Nothing," Daphne brushed it off.
"Daphne," Benjamin called her out.
"Seriously, it's nothing," Daphne insisted.
"You're thinking it's normal for me to wanna get married and for my family to bug me 'cause I'm getting old, right?" Benjamin saw right through her, his tone chill.
Daphne was caught off guard.
Emma and Zoey were right; Benjamin was a tough nut to crack.
Benjamin pinched her cheek. "You think I'm old?"
"No," Daphne denied.
She swore she didn't think he was old; she was just saying it made sense for him to want to get married and for his family to pressure him.
"Anyway, there's something I gotta make clear," Benjamin said, dead serious for once. "Remember this."
Daphne was a bit lost; she'd never seen him this serious. "What?"
"We're only getting married 'cause you want to, not 'cause of any anything else," Benjamin said earnestly. "Got it?"
Age, family pressure—none of that mattered.
He wanted their wedding day to be about Daphne wanting to build a life with him, 'cause she really wanted it.
Hearing this, Daphne was floored, her heart swelling with a sense of security.
"Benjamin," Daphne called.
She'd always thought Benjamin was with her just 'cause he liked her a bit and it was the right time, so he picked her.
Now she realized just how much he cared.
"Yeah?" Benjamin was super gentle with her.
"Move in with me," Daphne blurted out. "Let's live together."
Living together could test their vibe; after all, marriage wasn't just about feelings.
Benjamin's eyes darkened, and he shot her down softly, "No need."
"Why?" Daphne was puzzled.
"I'm just a regular guy with needs," Benjamin said bluntly, being real. "Sharing a room with you, I might not be able to keep my cool."
He'd always been chill about this stuff, but with Daphne, every kiss lit a fire in him.
Living together could be risky.
Daphne stayed quiet. They were both adults, so she got what he meant.
"Why do you wanna live together?" Benjamin asked.
"To see if we click," Daphne said honestly. "Better to know if something's off before we get hitched."
She didn't want another divorce; she wanted a solid relationship and a peaceful, happy life.
"Daphne," Benjamin called softly.
"Yeah?" Daphne replied gently.
"Trust me, and trust yourself," Benjamin said, knowing what was on her mind. "Our marriage will be happy."
Daphne bit her lip.
Benjamin added, "If you're really worried, I can move in and live with you."
"No need!" Daphne shot back quickly.
Benjamin's lips curved into a smile. "Didn't you want that before?"
"Didn't you say no?" Daphne found an excuse, realizing her earlier decision was kinda rash. "It's late. Let me take you to bed."
Benjamin just sat there, not budging.
Daphne was puzzled. What was up with him?
"I haven't answered your question yet," Benjamin said, looking at her confused and kinda cute expression, his heart warming.
Daphne was super confused. "What question?"
Did she ask something? She couldn't remember.
"The question you wanted to know, it's about the watch I changed last time," Benjamin said.
Daphne was still lost.
Benjamin urged her to go wash up and sleep.
While soaking in the bath, Daphne suddenly realized the question she most wanted to ask today was probably when Benjamin started liking her.
A watch? What did it have to do with a watch?
No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn't recall any memory related to it.
Benjamin knew she wouldn't figure it out. After all, when she asked last time, he knew she had already forgotten everything from before.
Back in the next room, he ordered a ring sizer online.
He needed to get the engagement ring and wedding ring custom-made in advance so that when she wanted to get married, he could propose at any time.
As for the proposal, it needed careful planning.
Daphne had a quick marriage with Charles before, so there probably wasn't any proposal. He needed to give her a surprise.
Thinking about this, he opened his phone and created a new group chat.
He, Emma, Zoey, Evan, Kevin, Dominic, and Sam were all in it.
Emma: [???]
Zoey: [Didn't we already have a group? Why another one?]
Evan: [Daphne isn't in this one?]
Kevin: [?]
Dominic: [What's going on?]
Sam: [Is Benjamin planning something behind Daphne's back?]
While they were chatting, Benjamin changed the group name to [Proposal Planning].
Although the name was straightforward, simple, and direct, it indirectly answered everyone's questions.
"Proposal? So soon?" Emma sent a voice message in the group. "You guys haven't been together for long."
Benjamin: [I'll get ready ahead of time, come up with a plan, so when she's ready for marriage, I can give her the perfect proposal.]
Benjamin: [Feel free to give any suggestions.]
The main purpose of this group was for them to help with the planning and execution of the proposal. Daphne's friends had to be there for her proposal.
Soon, the group became lively, with everyone giving suggestions and reasons.
Benjamin noted everything down. By the time they finished chatting, it was almost midnight. He looked at their suggestions and proposal plans, planning to find an opportunity to test Daphne.
The proposal was a very important thing. It had to be something both he and Daphne would love, but he couldn't tell her directly, or it would ruin the surprise.
After all, his girl deserved the best.
