Chapter 532 I Don't Want to Get Caught
Everyone quickly got ready after hearing him.
But when they grabbed their backpacks, they realized these were way heavier than the ones from their previous endurance training.
No one complained, though. They just strapped them on, ready to roll.
After a bit, a car pulled up.
Benjamin hopped into the driver's seat and said, "Let's go."
With that, they lined up and followed.
At first, it was manageable, thanks to their past training.
But after a few miles, they started to struggle, slowing down bit by bit.
"Benjamin said only the top three get lunch," the guy in the passenger seat announced through a megaphone, "The last one has to run twenty laps around the training field after this."
Everyone felt a jolt of anxiety and pushed themselves harder.
After the announcement, the guy turned to Benjamin, "Isn't this a bit too harsh? There are three girls in the group."
"If you think it's too harsh, you can get out and help them," Benjamin replied, driving slow enough for the runners to keep up, "I don't mind."
The guy laughed and declined. No way he was going to help; otherwise, he'd end up running with extra weight later.
"Are you really not going to give the ones at the back any food?" he asked.
Benjamin replied, "What do you think?"
The guy glanced in the rearview mirror, realizing it was just a motivational tactic, and kept urging them on with the megaphone.
Daphne was exhausted. She checked the time and said, "Keep the same pace; we have about twenty more minutes to go."
"I have a bad feeling," Emma panted.
Daphne glanced at her.
Emma looked at the car ahead and continued slowly, "If we finish around 6:30, there's still a few hours until noon. My gut tells me Benjamin has something planned for the morning."
"Let's just finish this run first," Sam said, not wanting to think too much.
At 6:30, they reached the finish line.
Benjamin had been waiting for a while and asked, "Are you tired?"
"Yes," they responded honestly.
"Rest for ten minutes, then run back," Benjamin instructed calmly.
"Do we have to be in such a hurry?" Sam was on the verge of breaking down, exhausted, "Aren't you afraid we'll collapse on the way back?"
"I reviewed your past training reports, medical records, and the tests you did yesterday afternoon," Benjamin replied, slightly more lenient, "A round trip of 12 miles is just at your limit."
"Everyone's limit is different," Dominic, drenched in sweat, poked Daphne, "For example, Daphne and the other girls, their stamina isn't the same as ours."
Kevin agreed, "Exactly!"
They all knew this, so how could Benjamin not?
Before Benjamin could respond, the guy explained, "Your backpack weights are different."
Sometimes he thought Benjamin was a devil; just by looking at some data, he could figure out their limits.
Over the years, he had never been wrong.
Every time, they just barely pushed past their limits without hurting themselves.
It was quite a skill.
Hearing this, Dominic lifted his pack and then Daphne's. "They feel about the same."
"Let me see," Kevin tried as well.
He was stunned.
Everyone looked at him, puzzled by his reaction.
Kevin then tried Emma's and Zoey's packs, feeling a bit defeated. "Mine seems to be the lightest."
Dominic and Sam checked as well.
They were surprised too.
Kevin's pack was indeed very light!
"It's almost like carrying nothing," Dominic was astonished. "Benjamin, isn't this a bit unfair?"
"He's a special technical talent, relying on his skills," Benjamin explained.
Technically, the organization wouldn't accept someone Kevin's age, as he wasn't even seventeen, but he was a hacker, so they made an exception.
As for the training for him, it wasn't really training, just some physical exercise. In a couple of years, they'd start real training.
"Daphne is also a special technical talent!"
"Yeah, Daphne's hacking skills are better than mine."
Everyone discussed, looking at Benjamin.
This caught Benjamin by surprise.
Before he could speak, Daphne uttered, "I'm here for training; hacking is just a side skill, not my main talent."
"Are you stupid?" Emma whispered to her, "If you admit you're a technical talent, you won't have to train so hard."
"Break time is over," Benjamin spoke, glancing at Daphne before getting into the car, "Be back at the training field in fifty-five minutes."
With that, Benjamin drove off, and they had no choice but to get up and follow.
They made it back in exactly fifty-five minutes.
According to the organization's standards, this wasn't very good, but since they were all newcomers, Benjamin wasn't too strict.
Seeing how exhausted they were, Benjamin let them rest a bit longer.
"Daphne, come with me," Benjamin called her during the break.
Daphne paused, then got up and followed him.
Benjamin didn't say a word along the way, just led her to a computer room.
"Try to break this," Benjamin spoke, seating her in front of a computer, "It's a security system designed by our organization's tech team."
Daphne said seriously, "I don't want to get caught."
Hacking this thing? Was she asking for trouble?
"It's not a real security system, just a test that they designed," Benjamin's deep voice was quite pleasant, "No one has broken it yet, not even the tech team."
Daphne hesitated.
Seeing her hesitation, Benjamin pulled out a permit from his pocket.
"This is a permit from higher-ups, allowing you to try," Benjamin was always reliable. "Kevin tried it before you."
Daphne was surprised. "How did it go?"
"What do you think?" Benjamin raised an eyebrow.
Though it wasn't a real security system, it was designed by the people who maintain the real one. It wasn't easy to break.
From Benjamin's look, Daphne knew Kevin hadn't succeeded. She adjusted her mindset and began preparing.
