Chapter 566 Do You Still Want My Help or Not

"None of your girlfriends actually love you," Elara said flatly.

Willie felt a bit embarrassed and wanted to prove her wrong. "Want me to call them right now and ask if they love me?"

"Love is selfish," Elara went on, not letting up. "If they really loved you, would they let you date so many at once?"

"That's just my charm," Willie shot back.

Elara smirked. "More like the charm of your money."

Willie felt a pang of discomfort and snapped, "Do you still want my help or not?"

"You don't have many years left to waste," Elara said, softening a bit since Willie was actually willing to help her this time. "Instead of messing around with your girlfriends, you should focus on learning how to run the company."

"Do I need you to teach me?" Willie retorted, full of confidence.

Elara just sighed, thinking, 'Whatever, it's not my company that's going down the drain.'

"There's something I need to tell you," Willie said, like he just remembered.

Elara leaned against the table, curious. "What is it?"

"Don't hang around my parents if you don't have to," Willie warned, thinking about how they always nagged him after seeing her. "Every time they see you, I get an earful when I get home."

They'd say stuff like, "Look at Elara; she's been amazing since she was a kid and runs the company so well." Then they'd lay into him for being irresponsible and just goofing off!

Elara shrugged it off. "Depends on my mood."

"What do you mean 'depends on your mood'?" Willie got a bit worked up. "Do you know that every time they see you and chat with you, they come home and nag at me? Put yourself in my shoes, would you like it?"

"Sorry, I've been excellent since I was a kid, so I don't have that experience," Elara said, genuinely.

Willie felt a surge of frustration, almost choking on his own anger!

"If you keep hanging around them, I'll mess up your thing with Jesse," Willie threatened. "I'll keep praising you, saying how great you are. Eventually, Jesse will think I really love you and will trust you to be with me."

Elara's fist clenched, but after a couple of deep breaths, she accepted his threat. "I won't hang around them, but if they come to me, that's not my problem."

"Don't worry about it," Willie said, trying to be proactive. After all, his parents wouldn't just come looking for him or Elara for no reason.

After they both put away their agreements, they were ready to leave Willie's startup.

Just as Willie stepped out, he ran into Harold and his secretary.

Seeing Harold, Willie got really nervous and froze. "Dad, what are you doing here?"

Did Jesse call him?

"I'm here to see how your company is doing," Harold said, standing at the door and chatting with him.

"It's going well," Willie lied, his palms sweaty and clearly flustered. "Isn't the evaluation supposed to be in three years? There's still one year left."

Harold didn't say anything.

Willie was very anxious.

"I heard you've been goofing off all day and not taking the company seriously," Harold said, surprising Willie with an inspection. "Some folks even say you've run the company into the ground."

"That's just a rumor!" Willie panicked. "Don't listen to that nonsense."

Harold stared him down. "Is it really nonsense?"

"Of course it is," Willie said, sweating bullets.

"Let me go in and take a look," Harold insisted, clearly suspecting Willie was lying.

With Harold's sharp eyes, he'd see through Willie in a heartbeat.

Just as Willie was freaking out, Elara walked out and greeted Harold warmly. "Harold, what a coincidence."

"Elara?" Harold was surprised. "What are you doing with him?"

"I needed his help with something," Elara said honestly. "What about you?"

"I'm here to check on his company. I heard he's been slacking off," Harold said seriously, not cutting Willie any slack. "I want to see if the company's in shambles."

"Him?" Elara glanced at Willie.

Willie tensed up completely.

He knew how much Harold valued Elara's opinion. If she said anything bad about him, he was toast.

"Actually, you misunderstood. While he's a bit of a playboy, he's reliable in business," Elara decided to help Willie out. "I know a bit about his company. The target market is young people, so he goes to bars for research."

Harold was a bit surprised. "Really?"

"Yes," Elara nodded. "When I went to the club to find him before, I saw him doing research."

"That's good," Harold said, relieved. "Keep an eye on him for me. If he messes up, feel free to scold him. If he fights back or bullies you, let me know."

"Willie is doing quite well now," Elara added, "You can rest easy."

"Fine," Harold smiled. "Then I won't disturb you two any longer."

After Harold finished speaking, he looked at Willie and said, "Treat Elara well!"

"Got it." Willie finally relaxed.

Harold didn't stay long.

Deep down, he really hoped Elara and Willie would end up together. He'd watched Elara grow up, and she was always exceptional.

But Willie just couldn't win her over; it wasn't meant to be.

The two of them escorted Harold downstairs. After watching Harold's car drive away, Willie looked at Elara suspiciously. "You're acting strange."

"I'm starting to suspect you're interested in me," Willie said seriously.

Elara had no patience for his nonsense. "Speak properly."

"You say you like Jesse, but deep down, you still have feelings for me, right?" Willie started imagining. "Otherwise, how would you know what my company does?"

"You have quite the imagination," Elara shot him a look and burst his bubble. "Your desk had the company's profile, main business operations, and target audience."

How could she possibly like him? His imagination was truly something else.

Willie felt awkward. "What's that look? Is liking me such an embarrassing thing?"
