Chapter 412 The Proposal Plan
Daphne was totally caught off guard.
Thinking back on everything, she said, "Because you deserve it."
"Isn't that the same thing?" Benjamin replied, his voice smooth as silk.
Daphne shot him a sideways glance.
"If we think of it like an investment, then you're the project I'm all in for, no matter what," Benjamin said. "Basically, you're my dream."
Daphne's heart skipped a beat, and she just sat there, frozen, not knowing how to react.
The word "dream" hit her hard.
"Don't feel pressured 'cause I'm good to you," Benjamin said, starting the car and giving her a quick side-eye. "I'm your boyfriend. If I can't be good to you, what's the point?"
"Benjamin," Daphne called out, lost for words.
Benjamin kept driving smoothly and added, "As long as you're happy, I'm good."
He wanted to give Daphne everything good.
He wanted her to know that someone who truly loved her would show it through actions, not just words.
People say women are emotional. Even Daphne, who was usually all about logic, couldn't escape that.
Right then, hearing those heartfelt words, she suddenly wanted to propose to Benjamin. She wanted him to know she'd be good to him too.
Love isn't a one-way street; it takes two to make it work.
With not much going on at work that day, Daphne quickly wrapped up her tasks and started planning the proposal.
Just then, while she was working on the proposal plan, Jesse walked in and saw it.
Their eyes met, and Daphne felt a bit awkward.
It was too late to switch screens, and she was so into it she didn't notice Jesse coming in.
"Ms. Murphy," Jesse said, looking at the proposal plan on her screen, his expression complicated. "Are you planning to propose to Benjamin?"
Daphne lied, "No."
"You never used to lie," Jesse said, calling her out.
Yeah, it was impossible to lie to someone who knew you so well; you'd get caught in no time.
"Okay, fine, I am," Daphne admitted, worried Jesse might spill the beans. "But I haven't told him yet. Can you keep it a secret?"
"Proposing is a guy's job," Jesse said, his face still cold.
"Jesse," Daphne called out.
"Calling me won't change anything," Jesse replied, unfazed.
"C'mon on, Jesse, you're the best," Daphne said.
"Aren't you worried your boyfriend will get jealous if he hears this?" Jesse asked, his cold tone softening a bit, making him look kinda attractive.
Was this really Jesse? Not someone else in disguise?
Jesse could tell what she was thinking but didn't bother explaining.
"You're acting weird," Daphne said.
"You're the weird one," Jesse shot back. "You shouldn't be planning the proposal. If you want to marry him, I can drop some hints for him to propose to you."
Daphne didn't respond. She had already made up her mind to propose to Benjamin because she wanted him to feel loved and cared for.
"If you actually propose to him, he'll be happy, but he'll also regret it forever," Jesse said, giving her the guy's perspective.
Daphne, confused, asked, "Why?"
Isn't getting proposed to supposed to be a happy thing?
"Proposing is a big deal for a guy," Jesse explained seriously. "He'd rather be the one to do it."
Daphne thought for a moment, looked at Jesse, and finally said, "I'll think about it."
But honestly, she wasn't gonna reconsider.
She'd already made up her mind. After Jesse left, she sent the two proposal plans she had to her group chat with Emma and Zoey, saying she was still brainstorming.
The two of them checked out the plans and pointed out the flaws.
Emma: [Did you forget something important?]
Daphne: [What?]
Zoey: [The ring. How can you propose to Benjamin without a ring?]
Seeing this, Daphne had a lightbulb moment.
But she didn't know Benjamin's ring size.
If it were anyone else, she could measure it without a hitch, but Benjamin was too sharp. Even in deep sleep, he'd notice her sneaking in, let alone touching his hand.
After thinking for a long time, she couldn't come up with a foolproof plan.
Emma and Zoey then started talking about where to celebrate her birthday tonight.
When this topic came up, Daphne suddenly had an idea and shared it with them.
Zoey: [No way.]
Emma: [Rejected.]
Daphne: [Why?]
Zoey: [Who dares to get Benjamin drunk?]
Emma: [I still want to live a few more days.]
Emma: [If u rlly wanna kno his ring size on the DL, I can tell u how.]
Daphne: [What?]
Emma: [Get him into bed and make him pass out.]
Zoey: [Are you sure it won't be Daphne who passes out?]
Daphne: [Hey, this is a chat. Watch your language.]
Seeing Emma and Zoey's increasingly wild suggestions, Daphne just responded with ellipses and emojis, unable to keep up with their conversation.
Realizing they were no help, she turned to Evan and Kevin.
As long as she found a good excuse, they would definitely agree. And she was right.
She told Evan and Kevin that she planned to formally introduce Benjamin to Alexander but wanted to see how Benjamin behaved when drunk before meeting the parents. They immediately agreed.
They figured meeting the parents would involve a lot of drinking, and Daphne was just testing Benjamin's drinking habits in advance.
"Don't worry, Daphne!" Kevin assured, adding, "Tonight, we'll make sure Benjamin gets wasted."
"Very, very wasted," Daphne emphasized.
"No problem!" Kevin agreed readily.
He didn't think much of it, assuming Daphne had finally come around, not realizing she was advancing her plan.
With their assurance, Daphne felt relieved and booked a restaurant for dinner.
She didn't tell Dominic and Sam because she knew that once Evan and Kevin started drinking with Benjamin, they'd join in without needing much persuasion.
If Daphne told them, it might give her away.
