Chapter 416 It's All Because You Set a Bad Example
"What's wrong?" Alexander asked when he saw her silent.
Daphne didn't share her thoughts. "Nothing, let's go inside. It's quite cold out here."
"Alright."
Alexander and Lydia both led her inside.
Once inside, Alexander handed her a glass of water and tentatively asked, "Why didn't you tell me you have a boyfriend?"
"I want to wait until our relationship is stable," Daphne said.
"It's not stable now?" Alexander asked.
Daphne paused. It was pretty stable.
She just wanted to wait a bit longer. What if Benjamin liked her only because of past feelings? She needed to wait until he truly understood her.
"Is it really unstable?" Alexander asked seriously, concerned. "What's causing it?"
"It's stable. We're doing well," Daphne replied earnestly.
Alexander looked at Lydia and asked, 'Is that true?'
Lydia said, "Don't worry. Daphne and Benjamin are doing great."
Alexander asked again, "Really?"
Lydia said firmly, "Really!"
With Lydia's confirmation, Alexander felt relieved.
If Daphne were depressed, Lydia wouldn't hide it. Since she said everything was fine, it must be true.
That day, Daphne stayed at home.
Alexander personally cooked lunch for her.
As lunchtime approached, Gavin came over to join them.
After lunch, Gavin discussed with Daphne, "Did you know Charles is back in Ivrea City?"
"I haven't been keeping up," Daphne answered honestly.
After Charles recovered, she didn't pay much attention to him, only telling Brian to inform her if Charles relapsed.
Apart from that, she remained uninvolved.
"Have you really moved on from him?" Gavin asked seriously.
Daphne responded calmly, "Yes."
If she hadn't moved on, she wouldn't have entered a new relationship. It would be irresponsible to herself and could hurt others.
Only by moving on could her new boyfriend feel comfortable.
"Then I'm relieved," Gavin said, sipping his coffee and showing a bit of concern. "Benjamin is great. I'm really happy that you're with him."
Although Benjamin had tricked him once, Gavin knew he was worthy of Daphne's lifelong commitment.
One could often tell a lot about a person just by sharing a meal with them.
Daphne gave him a surprised look.
Just as she was about to say something, her special phone notification sounded.
She recognized Benjamin's note without looking and examined it.
Benjamin: [When are you going to take me to visit your parents?]
Daphne: [You've already met them.]
Although she replied this way, she was thinking about when it would be appropriate to formally introduce him to Alexander.
They hadn't been together long, and meeting too soon might not be appropriate.
Benjamin: [When can I come over to propose to you and meet my future father-in-law?]
Daphne fell silent, not responding to that.
Just as she was about to ask Benjamin what he did at work today to change the subject, another message came in on Facebook.
Hayden: [Is Charles fully recovered?]
Daphne: [I got the report from Brian. It shows all data and indicators are standard, and his memory has returned.]
Daphne: [What's up?]
Hayden glanced at the very different Charles and replied: [Nothing.]
A few hours earlier, in the Lancelot family, Everyone was surprised to see Charles return.
Marcus furrowed his brows and blurted out, "Weren't you in Gedser pursuing Daphne? Why are you back?"
"I'm not pursuing her anymore," Charles replied.
"Why?" Marcus asked.
"She has a boyfriend," Charles replied.
Hayden wasn't surprised at all.
Daphne had always been an excellent girl, and it was only natural for her to have suitors.
But why Charles accepted it so calmly?
"Who's her boyfriend?" Marcus asked, genuinely concerned. He really thought of Daphne as his granddaughter. "Is he good to her? Have you checked him out?"
"Benjamin from the Reynolds Group. He's upright and a man worthy of lifelong commitment," Charles said in the calmest tone, even though it pained him.
No one wanted to see the person they liked with someone else, and Charles was no exception.
But Charles knew their relationship had ended. Since he couldn't give her happiness, he might as well let her find joy with someone else.
Marcus and Hayden exchanged glances, communicating silently.
Marcus: What's wrong with Charles?
Hayden shrugged, indicating he didn't know.
Charles would never have said such things in the past.
He would have said, "Am I even your son? We're divorced. Why should I care about her life?"
Marcus gave Hayden a glare. How could he not know what was wrong with his own son?
"As long as he's worthy of lifelong commitment," Marcus said, changing the subject. "You've had a long flight. Go rest."
"Alright," Charles said in a low voice, and he seemed more composed than ever.
As soon as Charles left, Marcus' brows furrowed.
His worried expression was evident as his figure faded away. "Don't you think Charles has changed a lot since he came back?"
"Heartbreak, it's normal," Hayden said, seemingly untroubled.
People grew through experiences. If Charles could get through this, he'd gain new insights, though the process would be challenging.
"Normal? What's normal about it!" Marcus said, hitting Hayden with his cane and glaring at him. "When have you ever seen him like this? And you call yourself his father. You're not caring about him at all."
"Didn't you say he hurt Daphne and needed to be taught a lesson, that we should give him the cold shoulder?" Charles responded calmly.
Marcus was fuming, wanting to scold but unsure of what to say.
After all, Marcus had said that, but he hadn't expected Charles to come back a changed man.
"Don't worry too much," Hayden said, only concerned about his injuries. "He's an adult. He can handle his own emotional issues."
"It's all your fault," Marcus snapped.
Hayden raised an eyebrow. How was this his fault?
"If you hadn't treated Laura badly and missed Charles' childhood, he wouldn't have ended up like this with Daphne," Marcus said, getting angrier. "It's all because you set a bad example."
Marcus continued, "And another thing."
"What?" Hayden asked.
