Chapter 37 Wait for Me at Home
"You said it yourself, she got into trouble because of you. We're not divorced yet, but I can understand her actions as having an affair with you behind my back, commonly known as a mistress," Daphne spoke bluntly.
She believed that those who commit crimes should face legal consequences, but she would not sympathize with Kayla. Charles's eyes darkened.
Daphne remained unaffected by his menacing looks, "She got into trouble, and you bear some responsibility for it."
If Charles had divorced her when he received that phone call, they could have gotten married as soon as Kayla came back. What need would there be for an agreement?
"The biggest regret of my life is thinking that you are as understanding as her and marrying you," Charles gazed at her for a long time, finally uttering only these words.
Daphne retorted, "How coincidental. My biggest regret is also marrying you."
With a cold look, Charles averted his gaze from her and stood up, leaving the café. In that moment, he called Mark and asked him to book his return ticket.
Daphne heard all that and her mood was not good at the moment. Previously, she had thought that she truly had no feelings for Charles and that she could remain calm and composed. But just now, she realized that forgetting someone can be a long process.
After Charles had departed, Daphne placed a phone call. At precisely six o'clock in the evening, she arrived at Blue Friday Bar, a place owned by Kevin. Upon receiving Daphne's call, Kevin was filled with excitement, yet a sense of unease crept in when he heard her request for company at the bar.
Inside the private room of the bar, dim lighting filled the space, and an entire table of liquor was laid out in front of Daphne. Kevin became nervous at the sight of all that alcohol and tentatively said, "Daphne, the two of us can't finish so much. Should I call the others over?"
"No need," Daphne declined.
"In fact, they know about your marriage and divorce with Charles," he said hesitantly. Kevin didn't finish the second half of his sentence under Daphne's gaze.
Daphne didn't want them to know. She knew their personalities, and both marriage and divorce demanded tranquility. "What?" she asked.
Kevin instantly hesitated, "Nothing."
Daphne opened the bottles of alcohol one by one. She casually picked up one and handed it to Kevin, saying, "Here."
"Daphne."
"Just say it," Daphne's mood wasn't in a great state.
Kevin pursed his lips. It was really difficult to carry the burden of a secret, but he decided to gather his courage and speak up, "There's something I haven't told you. They actually know about what happened between you and Charles."
Daphne's paused on her drink. Kevin was sweating profusely. "Last time, you told me not to tell them, but they were right next to my computer." Kevin was panicking. "I realized it was too late not tell them."
Daphne's eyes flickered slightly, her voice sounding ethereal. "How did they react?"
"They beat me up!" Kevin felt wronged. "They asked why it was a secret to be told only to me, and not to them."
Daphne pursed her red lips, her eyes filled with mixed emotions. She tightened her grip on the bottle in her hand, just slightly.
"Daphne..." Kevin was worried.
"After I get the divorce certificate, I'll make plans to meet them," Daphne's mood was low, and her voice lacked energy. "I'll talk to them then."
"It probably won't work this month."
"Huh?"
"They probably can't get away," Kevin continued. "Some have plans to travel with their girlfriends, some are meeting up with online friends, and some intend to meet their partner's parents."
"They have boyfriends and girlfriends?" Daphne was taken aback.
"Don't you know?"
"What should I know?"
"Out of the seven of us, only Evan, Hardy, and I are still single," Kevin complained. "The rest are quietly dating. Especially you, you even got married!!!" As Kevin became more emotional, he grew more agitated.
"They're really in relationships?" Daphne's previous emotions vanished, and she became completely different.
"You didn't read the group messages?" Kevin asked back, and Daphne shook her head.
She didn't spend much time checking her phone. She only occasionally glanced at the group, mostly filled with gossip. She wasn't interested in gossip, so she rarely checked it. Most of the time, it was when someone mentioned her or sent her a private message that she would go take a look. Only a very small number of times did she open it in her free time.
"When you left Gedser and went to Ivrea City, they started dating one after another in the three months," Kevin was still concerned about this. "We had agreed to stay single together."
Daphne placed the wine on the table and stood up. "I'm not drinking anymore."
"Huh?" Kevin was puzzled.
"Don't you like watching car races?" Daphne's mood improved again. "I'll take you there now."
"Really!" Kevin's eyes widened in shock.
"Yes." Daphne's lips formed a slight smile.
"Awwwsssooommeee!" Kevin jumped up and hugged Daphne, overwhelmed with excitement. "Daphne, you're my goddess!" Daphne pushed him away, pressing against his forehead.
All along, she didn't want their group to know about her divorce from Charles. The main reason was that they had made a promise that if her future marriage wasn't happy, they would never get married for the rest of their lives, and she didn't want them to give up on marriage. Some people are worth it. Fortunately, they all have someone they love.
On this evening, Kevin and Daphne went to Gedser's specialized racetrack. It's different from those exclusive racetracks for the privileged. This place is a playground for nationally and even globally renowned racers.
There were many people who wanted to come in and watch the race, but not everyone could get in. Daphne has a great reputation here, so it was easy for her to bring someone in and ensure Kevin had the best view.
Together, they watched several races, to the point that when it ended, Kevin took a picture and posted it with the caption; ‘howling, Daphne brought me to watch the race!!!’ As soon as it was posted, there were comments below.
Lydia: "Unfair! Daffy actually took you and not me, humph!"
Evan: "She didn't participate, right?"
