Chapter 24 Can You Please Not Be Upset

"Sis, what's wrong?" Lydia noticed her change in expression.
"It's nothing, you should rest," Daphne's eyes deepened, and she stood up with her phone, "I'll make a phone call outside."
Lydia responded with a couple of soft "ohs."
Daphne went outside to the corridor and dialed dummy dad's number.
Mr. Murphy answered quickly, as usual, "Daffy."
"When did he tell you about it?" Daphne got straight to the point without beating around the bush.
"Just now," Mr. Murphy almost didn't hide anything from her, "The director from their Gedser branch called my secretary and said that Charles is interested in the new project of the Murphy Group and wants to meet and discuss."
Daphne pondered.
Her intuition told her that things were not as simple as they seemed on the surface.
"Can you refuse?"
"Not really," Mr. Murphy spoke from a business perspective and analyzed the reasons with her, "If we refuse, Charles might suspect something."
"When are you meeting?"
"The Lancelot Group said tomorrow, but it depends on my schedule."
"If it's just about cooperation, then talk normally," Daphne quickly formulated a plan, "But if he asks if you know Daphne or if there are any other daughters besides Lydia, say that you don't know and there aren't any."
"..." Mr. Murphy hesitated with his phone in hand.
Could it be that Daffy wants to break away from their father-daughter relationship?
"It might not be a good idea to say that..." After careful consideration, he added.
She opened her mouth.
"It's nothing. Before the divorce, I didn't want him to know my identity, nor did I want the divorce to go badly," Daphne replied directly, her tone calm.
Hearing the mention of divorce, Mr. Murphy's mood became complicated, but after careful consideration, he agreed.
They discussed some details, and towards the end, Mr. Murphy asked, "Can you tell me about what happened between you and him?"
"We can discuss that later," Daphne used this sentence as a conclusion and hung up the phone, returning to the hospital room.
Seeing her expression, Lydia immediately guessed what had happened. With her cunning eyes, she asked tentatively, "Was it a call with Dad?"
"Yes," Daphne didn't hide it.
"Actually, he has been thinking about you these past two years," Lydia played the role of mediator. "He's always worried that you're not happy and well taken care of."
Daphne remained silent.
Seeing another message from her estranged father, she moved her fingertips and replied.
"Sis," Lydia's mood became a bit complex. "Can you tell me what exactly happened between you and Dad?"
She had asked her father this question many times over the past two years.
Every time, he would either dodge the topic or ask about her studies or her graduation plans, always skillfully avoiding her inquiries.
She really wanted to know.
"It's nothing," Daphne didn't want her to find out. "I'll go prepare some food for you. After you feel better, I'll let your boyfriend know you're safe."
Hearing this, Lydia's thoughts were suddenly diverted.
With a hint of red on her cheeks, she nodded.
After leaving the hospital, Daphne told Kevin to take care of Lydia first.
Walking aimlessly on the streets outside the hospital, Daphne's mind was filled with the questions Lydia had asked in the hospital.
She couldn't let Lydia know about what her estranged father had done.
Once she found out, Lydia's image of her father would crumble, and her beliefs would shatter.
Since she was young, her estranged father had been a superhero to Lydia. Whatever she wanted, he could make it happen.
She wanted Lydia to be happy for the rest of her life.
As for those things, she only needed to understand with her estranged father.
She let out a sigh and was about to buy Lydia's favorite food when her phone, held in her hand, vibrated.
The name Charles appeared on the screen.
She slid to answer, "Hello."
"How are your family members?"
"They're fine, nothing major."
"Tomorrow night, come with me to a dinner party," Charles stated his purpose, his voice deep and steady. "Send me the address, and I'll have Mark pick you up."
Frowning, she asked, "A dinner party?"
"Yes," Charles's voice came through the phone, sounding pleasant. "It's with the CEO of the Murphy Group."
"......"
Charles sat in the chair of his hotel room, with Daphne's previous email displayed on the computer screen in front of him. As he read the contents, his gaze gradually deepened.
"Weren't you claiming to be the heir of the Murphy Group before? Let's have a good talk about it."
"I won't go," Daphne refused firmly.
"If you don't go," Charles was determined to test her identity, "your missing person notice will be displayed on the advertising screens outside major shopping malls in Gedser the day after tomorrow. I'll give one million dollars to whoever finds you."
"......"
"I believe there will be people willing to earn that money," Charles said confidently.
"Do I need to remind you that we are in the process of getting a divorce?" Daphne felt it necessary to remind him. "I have no interest in getting involved with your circle. What I said before was just a joke."
"Whether it was a joke or not, we will find out tomorrow," Charles no longer concealed his intentions.
Daphne thought of one thing and replied, "Aren't you worried that Kayla in Ivrea City will see you and me inseparable in Gedser and end up in tears at the hospital every day?"
"She won't," Charles stated firmly.
"Is that so?"
"Yes."
"Well, you really don't understand women. If you don't contact her for a month, break up with me as we agreed, and then attend social gatherings with me, she will definitely think that you don't love her anymore and that you have fallen in love with me during the two years of our marriage."
"She is different from you. I had Mark pass on our agreement to her, and she agreed to it," Charles explained.
Daphne responded with an "Oh" but her emotions remained unclear.
If it were any other matter, Kayla might be able to tolerate it.
But based on their encounter at the hospital, Kayla was placing too much importance on the position of Mrs. Lancelot. The more importance one places on something, the more they become anxious about losing it.
These past few days, she might have been finding ways to find out whether they had divorced, what the current situation was, and if Charles had any lingering feelings towards her.
When she finds out about Charles and their divorce settlement, she might become angry.
"Mark will contact you once he arrives in Gedser. Think about whether you want to come or not," Charles said before hanging up the phone.
He was certain that Daphne would agree.
She wouldn't want to see her own photos and information displayed on large screens.
Daphne did intend to go, but not because of his threat.
As for what Charles mentioned, as long as she didn't want her details to appear, she could make sure they didn't.
She was going just to dispel Charles's suspicions.
She didn't want Charles to think she had ulterior motives for approaching him.
Since deciding to marry him, she wanted to live as Daphne, not as the heir of the Murphy Group.
