Chapter 303 Why Do I Feel Like He Is a Bit Too Obedient?

In the end, Mark couldn't resist Charles's pressure and reluctantly sent the message to Daphne.

Daphne was still eating when she saw it. She wanted to call but figured Charles might be with him, so she replied: [What did you talk about?]

Mark saw the message, and so did Charles.

"Didn't you say not to tell her?" Charles asked slowly.

"Misunderstanding, definitely a misunderstanding," Mark quickly assured. "Usually, when you send a message like that, the other person instinctively asks what was discussed."

Charles wanted to call him out but realized Mark had a point.

Charles extended his hand. "Give me the phone."

Mark hesitated. "Ms. Murphy..."

"Hand it over," Charles insisted.

"Please don't send any random messages," Mark said, reluctantly handing over the phone.

Mark started to wonder if Charles had a split personality. This Charles seemed different.

Charles didn't care what Mark thought. He typed: [He asked about your past with him. Since he's mentally still five, I didn't mention your marriage and divorce.]

Daphne: [Okay.]

Mark: [Ms. Murphy, I have an unusual request.]

Daphne: [Go ahead.]

Mark: [Mr. Lancelot seems very insecure. When I told him you weren't his real sister, he looked abandoned. Could you show him more care?]

Mark couldn't believe what he saw. 'How shameless! Can Charles really do this?' he thought.

"Mr. Lancelot," Mark felt the need to remind him. "Don't you think this is inappropriate?"

Charles looked at him calmly. "What's wrong with it?"

"Lying, deceiving," Mark replied honestly. "Ms. Murphy hates that the most."

The old Charles, though a jerk, never lied to Daphne. Even when he wanted to divorce her for Kayla, he was direct.

He was straightforward and disliked deceit, but this Charles seemed sneaky.

"If you don't tell her, how would she know I'm lying?" Charles said, smiling faintly. "Or are you planning to betray me and inform her?"

Mark replied vaguely, "Don't you know what kind of person I am?"

"Indeed, I don't," Charles replied bluntly.

When Daphne saw Mark's message, she paused, unsure how to respond. Then, another message came.

Mark: [By the way, Mr. Lancelot said he left something at Brian's place. He asked me to take him there. How do I get to Brian's place?]

Daphne sent the location.

She thought of asking Charles to wait until she was done for the day and take him tomorrow, but then she thought, 'This is a chance for Mark and Charles to spend time together.' So she let them go.

Spending more time with Mark might help Charles recover some memories since Mark was a big part of his life.

After getting the address, Charles asked Mark to take him to Brian's place. He needed to find out how he got injured for Daphne.

As they left, Mark was on the verge of breaking down.

He couldn't tell Daphne; if he slipped up, given Charles's current personality, he wouldn't know how he died.

But if he stayed quiet, it was clear Charles was mentally unstable.

Mark thought, 'What do I do? Who can save me?'

"What are you dawdling for?" Charles snapped, seeing Mark moving slowly.

"Nothing." Mark gave up.

He thought of leaving a mark for Daphne to find, but she had already taken everything Charles needed, so she probably wouldn't come.

Besides, if it wasn't obvious or significant, Daphne wouldn't notice. This wasn't a criminal investigation; no one would overanalyze the details.

Worried, Mark's peripheral vision caught sight of a surveillance camera.

A glimmer of hope ignited in Mark's eyes. He turned his back to the camera and made an 'X' gesture with his hand behind his back.

"What are you doing?" Charles saw Mark acting suspiciously.

Mark calmly adjusted his glasses. "Nothing, let's go."

Charles felt something was off with Mark.

Eventually, Charles's gaze fell on the camera, and a smirk appeared on his lips. "Planning to send the surveillance footage to her?"

"Huh?" Mark played dumb. "Who?"

"Destroy the camera," Charles said, one hand in his pocket, his demeanor vastly different from before.

Mark wasn't stupid. He started to strategize. "Are you sure?"

"Stop nagging," Charles was impatient. If it weren't for Daphne saying Mark used to be close to him, he would have fired him. "Do it."

"Okay," Mark responded in a businesslike manner.

He obediently dismantled the camera and deleted the footage from the cloud.

Seeing the intact camera on the table, Charles added, "Smash it; make it look like a break-in."

"Okay," Mark complied.

Charles frowned, thinking, 'Why do I feel Mark is being overly obedient?'

Mark quickly took care of everything, even messing up the scene. After finishing, he took Charles to the car.

Before starting the car, he said, "Mr. Lancelot, have you thought about how to explain this to Ms. Murphy?"

"What?" Charles asked.

"The camera," Mark said seriously, "Ms. Murphy personally chose and installed it."

Charles wouldn't remember.

These matters were handled by Mark before; even the purchase receipts were with him.

Even if Charles investigated, he wouldn't find anything!

"Daphne?" Charles frowned.

"Yes, it was Ms. Murphy's last gift to you," Mark said seriously, "You promised to cherish everything Ms. Murphy gave you, but now you've destroyed it yourself."

Charles felt Mark was doing it on purpose, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Mark remained obedient.

"In a few days, tell Daphne my house was broken into," Charles said, quickly coming up with a plan, "Ask her to help pick a new camera and make sure she installs it herself."

Since it was from the past, it was broken now. If she gave it to him again, it would be perfect.

"This..." Mark pretended to hesitate.
