Chapter 265 Daphne, Stay Alive

If Aaron hadn't been caught and sentenced to death, Paisley wouldn't have been so heartbroken, let alone taken her own life. He wouldn't have lost his only sister. And it was all Charles's fault.

Michael's thoughts grew darker, and he even smiled. "If she hadn't gone to the beach that night, she wouldn't have gotten that high fever, and she wouldn't have told me she wanted to come here to relax."

As he spoke, Daphne's mind raced, piecing things together.

Paisley? Her boyfriend was sentenced to death. Michael.

She kept thinking until a name clicked in her mind.

She wasn't sure if she was right, but she asked, "Is your sister Paisley Rodriguez?"

"You got it," Michael confirmed indirectly.

He took his father's last name, and his sister took their mother's.

After their parents died, Paisley was all he had left.

But Charles ruined that.

"Her boyfriend getting caught was his fault. Charles giving info to the cops wasn't wrong," Daphne said bluntly. "If you want to blame someone, blame yourself. You knew what her boyfriend was up to."

Michael snapped back, "You're blaming me?"

Daphne and Charles stayed silent.

Michael repeated, "Yeah, blame me."

"So isn't that why I brought her enemy here to be buried with her?" Michael said, still calm. "Today, you, me, and Charles, we're all dying here to keep her company."

That's why he said no one could convict him.

Daphne looked at the sea below and then around her.

Jumping from here, there's a 90% chance of getting shot; staying here, a 100% chance of getting blown up.

This was a dead end.

Charles looked at her and promised, "I won't let anything happen to you."

"You're really affectionate," Michael said. "But your affection came too late. Do you think what you're doing now means anything?"

"Name your terms and let her go," Charles said.

He'd been here long enough and heard enough to understand Michael's intentions. Now that Michael had said everything, he feared Michael would blow up the whole island any second.

If that happened, what would happen to Daphne?

He had to buy time for help to arrive; the best way was to shift Michael's hatred onto himself. This way, Michael wouldn't be suspicious, and he could achieve his goal.

"You really want to save her?" Michael asked.

"Yes," Charles replied.

"Then stab yourself in the heart," Michael said casually. "If you can last ten minutes without dying, I might consider letting her go."

"I want you to let her go, not consider it," Charles stated firmly.

Michael chuckled and looked at Daphne. "Your ex-husband is something else. He's running a high fever and still dares to hold me hostage. I don't know where he gets his courage."

As soon as he said this, Daphne instinctively looked at Charles, and so did Charles.

This was the opening Michael needed. He quickly grabbed Charles's hand and struck him with his elbow.

If Michael's hit landed, with his strength, Charles's ribcage would likely break.

But Charles reacted quickly and blocked him.

Michael used this moment to slip away, escaping Charles's control.

Their distance widened instantly.

Daphne pointed the gun she had seized at Michael. "Move again, and I won't hesitate to shoot."

Hearing her, everyone around them pointed their guns at her and Charles.

She knew Michael was skilled and full of tricks.

Otherwise, their team wouldn't have suffered so much at his hands before.

"Do you think this can threaten me?" Michael wasn't afraid. "After you shoot me, you'll be shot dead by them."

Daphne kept her aim at him and pulled Charles behind her.

Just touching him, she felt the heat. Michael wasn't lying about the fever.

"You will kill me," Daphne said, knowing how to handle Michael's psychology. "But you'll definitely die before me. That way, Charles might have a slim chance to escape."

Michael paused.

Daphne continued, "Do you want to bet? Do you think the island will explode first, or will my people rescue Charles?"

"Don't you like him?" Michael didn't understand her move.

"I don't like him, but that doesn't stop me from saving him," Daphne said calmly. "Nor does it stop me from dealing with you."

If possible, she wanted to kill Michael directly.

But if Michael died, many clues Benjamin and the others needed would be lost, and the island would explode.

"I'll let you go," Michael said, as if after careful consideration. "You hand Charles over to me."

Daphne and Charles didn't respond.

Michael raised an eyebrow. "You don't believe me?"

"No," Daphne answered bluntly.

"Then I'll be your hostage, and you can tie me to the boat," Michael suggested. "When you reach a safe area, you can hand him over to me. How about that?"

"You tampered with the boat?" Daphne immediately suspected.

"Yes." Michael smiled lightly and walked slowly towards her. "I planted explosives on it. When you get on, the bomb will explode!"

Daphne took a few steps back. "Don't move!"

"Okay, I won't move," Michael seemed very obedient and chatted leisurely with them. "I sincerely advise you not to waste your efforts. From the moment you stepped in here, it meant you were already dead."

Daphne felt an unusual calm inside and was glad she hadn't acted on the boat. Otherwise, Nina, Kayla, and some innocent people might have been in trouble.

She stared at Michael, her mind racing for a solution.

Charles, standing behind her, was also thinking and observing.

Just as he was wondering why those people were so unreliable, Charles saw someone waving at him from below the cliff out of the corner of his eye.

At that moment, he saw hope.

"Daphne," Charles suddenly called her name.

Daphne was still focused on Michael's every move, not daring to relax. When he called her, she only briefly responded, "Speak."

"Survive," Charles said.

Before Daphne could react, he pulled her towards the cliff.
