Chapter 42 Charles and the Bitch Are Not Welcome

She took the phone out from under her pillow and stared at the screen, which hadn't contacted her for almost a month. Her heart irregularly raced, and her lips turned pale. Her finger hovered over the end call button, but when she thought about the consequences of hanging up, she reluctantly answered the call with trembling voice, "Hello..."

"Why did it take you so long to answer?" The voice on the other end was soft, but it made her hold her breath.

Kayla shivered all over, stuttering as she spoke, "I was in the bathroom and didn't hear it."

"How is the situation progressing?"

"They will get their divorce certificate in thirteen days."

"Are you sure Charles will marry you after the divorce?" The man's voice was calm, pleasant to hear, but the tone unintentionally evoked fear.

"I'm sure." Kayla swallowed nervously, sweat forming on her forehead. "He has already told his family about this, and once he gets the divorce certificate, he will marry me."

"Alright." The man had no intention of chatting further. "Remember to proceed according to the plan after you marry him. If you dare to have any ulterior motives behind my back, you know the consequences."

Kayla's heart trembled, and a chill ran down her spine. Before hanging up, she suddenly thought of something and mustered up the courage to speak, "Wait!"

There was silence from the other end. Kayla's hand holding the phone was drenched in cold sweat. "Did you arrange the accident and the rape?" She bit her lip, her heart pounding.

The man neither confirmed nor denied it, only saying, "I prefer to do things myself." A loud noise echoed in Kayla's head, and her trembling fingers barely held onto the phone. After the call was disconnected, Kayla's phone slipped from her hand, and all her strength seemed to drain away. She slumped onto the sofa.

It wasn't him, nor was it, Daphne. Then who could it be? She sat on the sofa for half an hour before finally recovering. It seemed like she had figured something out, as she picked up her phone and deleted the call logs from earlier.

After deleting them, she sat there in a daze, with only one thought in her mind. 'Charles must not find out. No, he can't!”

Charles didn't think about her at the moment. After finishing her call, he put down his work and went to find Daphne, thinking about what she had said.

Mark brought a few more documents over, and his face wore his usual signature smile: "Boss, here are a few documents that need your signature."

"Put them on the desk."

"I need them now, it's urgent." Charles paused.

His eyes turned icy, and with a slight frown on his thin lips, he spoke unhappily, "If it's urgent, why didn't you bring them earlier? Why wait until now?"

"Let them wait and learn their lesson." Charles said and left without another word.

Not long after he left, someone hiding in the shadows silently approached Mark and asked, "What did the CEO say to you just now? Why did he seem unhappy?"

Mark glanced at them and faithfully relayed every word Charles had said. Three onlookers joined in the conversation saying;

"He really said that?"

"Did the CEO have a fight with Mrs. Lancelot?"

"I think they're getting a divorce."

Mark lowered his gaze. These three were really sharp. The girl who mentioned divorce couldn't believe it and covered her mouth in shock, her expression frozen in disbelief. "No way... I was right?"

"The boss has a good relationship with Mrs. Lancelot." Mark didn't show any emotions but was surprised by their speculation. "As secretaries, we should always remember not to pay too much attention to the CEO's personal life."

If these people knew that the boss and Mrs. Lancelot were getting a divorce, the entire headquarters would find out tomorrow. Although these people were highly confidential in their professional work, in gossip, they spread faster than anyone else.

He sighed inwardly and continued working. It took Charles over an hour to reach Daphne's home from the company. By the time he arrived, it was already half-past noon.

Daphne was having her meal when she heard the knock on the door. If it was Kayla again, she wouldn't hesitate to throw her out, but she didn't expect it to be Charles.

"What are you here for?" Daphne had a strong dislike for him and Kayla now, and she didn't even want to show them basic patience.

"I want to talk to you." Charles went on his own and walked towards the inside.

Daphne blocked his way and tapped the door twice with her hand, saying, "Didn't you see the words on the door?"

He glanced and didn't see a single word. "What words?"

"Charles and bitch. No entry." Daphne's red lips slightly parted as she spoke each word.

Charles took a step forward with his long legs and barged in, pressing Daphne against the door, imprisoning her with his body. "Have I been too lenient with you lately, making you feel that everything is under your control? I am easy to talk to, right?"

"I should be asking you that," Daphne looked at him with disdain, "Do you think I'm a doormat, so you made an agreement with Kayla to take turns squeezing me?"

"Are you a doormat?" Charles questioned.

Before, he might have thought she was someone who could be easily controlled, like a doormat. But ever since he brought up the divorce, her attitude had undergone a drastic change, and she was no longer a doormat.

Daphne couldn't be bothered to waste words with him. If it weren't for the smooth acquisition of the divorce certificate, she would have thrown him out by now.

"Get to the point or get lost," Daphne no longer wanted to have a pleasant attitude towards him.

"Why did you say those things to Marcus?" Charles finally started to find fault, looking down at the person she had trapped, "You know very well that Marcus doesn't like her. By saying those things, you only make Marcus worsen his impression of her."

"What's it to do with me?" Daphne asked.

"It's because of you."

"If you want to get slapped, go on," a coldness flickered in Daphne's eyes.

That incident was truly a black mark in Charles's history, and now every time he thought about it, he felt a chill all over his body. "Daphne!"

"I sincerely advise you and Kayla to get a brain CT scan," Daphne couldn't understand how these two people could shamelessly stoop so low, "I have never encountered people as shameless as you two."

Charles's eyes darkened, "What do you mean?"

"Kayla is the mistress of our marriage," Daphne said clearly for the first time, replacing the word 'emotions' with 'marriage,' "And you, you're the cheater."

"You keep coming to me again and again, talking about this and that. Do you really think I'm easy to bully?" Daphne put this matter out in the open.
