Chapter 415 Remember to Bring Him Next Time
Seeing his hair all wet, Daphne grabbed a towel and started drying it for him. Benjamin just sat there, totally chill and cooperative.
Once he was settled on the bed, Daphne went off to whip up some lemon water for him.
She was kinda on edge, not sure if Benjamin was fully out or just tipsy. What if he woke up when she tried to measure his finger later? That would totally blow the surprise. Lost in these thoughts, time just flew by.
Next thing she knew, ten minutes had zipped past.
Listening to his steady breathing, she softly called out, "Benjamin? Benjamin? You asleep?"
She whispered a few more times, but nada. No response.
Benjamin was out cold. He trusted Daphne completely and wanted her plan to work, so he just knocked out, thanks to the booze.
But Daphne had no clue.
After getting the ring sizer from the bodyguard, she hit up the group chat.
Daphne: [How do I know if Benjamin's really asleep or just faking it?]
Emma: [Try 2 seduce him, n u'll know.]
Zoey: [Exactly.]
Daphne hesitated.
Seduce him? She remembered Benjamin mentioning something risky.
Emma: [Don't stress. If he wants 2 fake it, no1 can tell. His acting skills r Oscar-level.]
Zoey: [If you're super worried, just kiss him while measuring.]
Daphne thought their ideas were too wild, so she decided against it.
With the ring sizer in hand, she stood by the bed for a bit, then decided to just go for it.
If Benjamin woke up, she'd just say she was helping Emma or Zoey with some experiment.
She warmed up a few rings in her hands, not wanting the cold metal to wake him.
Luckily, it all went smoothly. She measured both his ring finger and index finger, then bounced.
One for the wedding ring, one for the engagement ring. Gotta be prepared.
Benjamin felt something, but with his guard down and the alcohol, it was just a fuzzy sensation. He had no idea what Daphne was up to.
That night, Benjamin slept like a log.
Daphne got busy prepping the custom rings. Once she had the sizes, the rest was a breeze.
She worked until two or three in the morning before crashing.
When Benjamin woke up the next morning, he was totally sober. Seeing breakfast already laid out, he went to wake Daphne.
Daphne opened the door, hair all messy and dark circles under her eyes from staying up late.
She rubbed her eyes, still half-asleep.
"Not fully awake?" Benjamin could tell she was beat.
"Yeah," Daphne replied, stifling a yawn.
"What were you up to?" Benjamin asked.
"Nothing," Daphne replied.
Benjamin wasn't buying it.
But he didn't remember much from last night; some memories were already fuzzy.
"Oh, by the way, I'm not going to the office today," Daphne suddenly said. "My dad and Lydia wanna make up for my birthday."
For the past couple of years, she’d been stuck in Ivrea City and hadn’t had a proper meal with her folks. This year, since she had a boyfriend, Alexander made sure to keep the 16th open for them.
After all, the 14th and 15th were right next to each other.
Alexander was worried that if she came back on the 15th, it’d mess up their plans.
"Not taking me to meet your parents?" Benjamin raised an eyebrow, recalling a bit of a convo he’d overheard.
Daphne froze, her eyes blinking nervously.
She pursed her lips and played dumb, saying, "Isn't it too soon?"
"Yeah, maybe a bit early," Benjamin said, ruffling her hair, not wanting to stress her out. "Go wash up and come down for breakfast. I'll drive you back."
"No need," Daphne said.
"I said you need," Benjamin insisted.
Daphne went quiet, knowing she couldn’t win this one.
When it came to driving her home, unless she had a solid reason to refuse, he’d insist on taking her.
After breakfast, Benjamin drove Daphne home, where Alexander and Lydia had been waiting forever.
Hearing the car outside, Alexander and Lydia came out to greet them at the villa entrance.
Soon, the car stopped at the door.
Daphne hopped out, and Benjamin followed to say hi.
"Daphne!" Lydia bounced over, hugged her, and then greeted Benjamin, "Benjamin."
Benjamin nodded and naturally called out to Alexander.
Alexander cleared his throat, playing dumb. "Daphne, who’s this?"
"Benjamin," Daphne introduced, owning it, "My boyfriend."
"So it’s Benjamin," Alexander said warmly. "Come in and sit."
"No, I’ve got work at the company that needs me. I’ll visit next time," Benjamin politely declined.
"Work can wait," Alexander said.
"Well..." Benjamin hesitated, looking conflicted.
"What’s up?" Alexander asked.
"It’s better to come next time." Benjamin glanced at Daphne and said pointedly, "Daphne said it’s not time for me to visit yet."
After that, Benjamin said his goodbyes and got back in the car.
Alexander and Lydia were left scratching their heads.
Alexander hesitated but finally asked, "Daphne, did you really say that?"
She did, but it was just an excuse to dodge the question.
After all, she wasn’t sure if Benjamin was genuinely asking or if he’d heard something from Evan and Kevin.
"We’ve only been together for like two weeks," Daphne explained. "Visiting now seems too soon. Better to wait a bit."
"Well..." Alexander was stumped.
He couldn’t scold her; Daphne was his precious daughter.
"Next time, make sure to bring him. I think Benjamin’s a good guy," Alexander said seriously.
Daphne reminded him, "But you just met him for the first time."
"That’s not important," Alexander said seriously, then asked, "After lunch, is he coming to pick you up, or should I have the driver take you?"
Daphne couldn’t figure out Alexander.
When she came back before, he’d insist she stay a few more days. Now, before she even stepped inside, he was already planning her departure.
