Chapter 545 Mark's Wedding
Mark didn't push for more details.
Charles was vague, and he couldn't just ask Daphne to come over.
The next day flew by. Mark and his groomsmen were busy with wedding stuff, while Charles and Austin chilled upstairs at the hotel.
After Austin wrapped up his call with Molly, Charles asked, "When are you heading to Gedser to see Molly?"
"Probably next month," Austin said without missing a beat. "She's swamped with school this month, and I don't want to mess up her schedule."
"Take me with you when you go," Charles said.
Austin looked confused. "Why would you want to go? You want to see Daphne, right?"
"No," Charles's eyes gave nothing away. "I just want to meet Molly. Never met her before."
"Really?" Austin didn't buy it.
Charles stayed cool, making it hard to tell if he was being honest.
Austin, knowing his friend, had a hunch about his odd behavior: "You don't really want to see Molly; you want to see Daphne's kids, right?"
Last time, Austin had mentioned that Molly's school was right across from Diana and Louis's kindergarten.
Charles probably wanted to see Louis and Diana.
"I'm just going to see Molly," Charles repeated.
"Alright, alright," Austin didn't push it; he was still his friend after all. "I'll let you know when I go."
Charles nodded, lost in thought.
Austin glanced at Charles and asked, "I heard from Mark that someone's been after you lately. Is that true?"
Charles said, "No."
Austin pressed, "You planning on staying single forever?"
"I'm gonna rest in the next room," Charles clearly didn't want to talk about it. "Let me know when Mark and the others get back."
Charles got up and went to the next room to rest, but his mind was racing. Thinking about Austin's question, he rubbed his temples. How could he think about marriage when he was still so unsettled?
Over the years, Charles had thought a lot about everything with Kayla and Daphne. Maybe it was maturity, but now he saw his past as kind of ridiculous.
Back then, he didn't get love. He was just heartbroken that Kayla hid her illness and left to spare him the pain.
So, in the aftermath, he sided with her, hurting Daphne in the process.
Even though he tried to make things right later, the damage was done.
Now, he still had feelings for Daphne. Being with someone else would be unfair to both him and the other woman.
Thinking about this, Charles unlocked his phone and checked Daphne's social media, finding it empty.
Sometimes he wished Daphne was more active online, so he could see her updates and know what was going on in her life.
But she rarely posted, maybe once or twice a year, sometimes not at all.
Just then, his phone buzzed.
Charles checked and saw a message from Rex: [Mark is getting married. Any thoughts?]
Charles: [What thoughts?]
Rex: [Marriage. You've been single for so long. Are you planning to stay single forever?]
Charles didn't waste any time and blocked him. He wasn't in the mood for that conversation.
The rest of the day, the hotel was buzzing with activity.
Mark exchanged rings with his beloved and had a beautiful wedding.
Seeing their suits and wedding dress, Charles couldn't help but think of Daphne and Benjamin's simple yet unforgettable wedding.
"What's with that look?" Austin asked, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Feeling jealous?"
Charles shot back, "Aren't you?"
"Not as much as you," Austin grinned, trying to get under his skin. "I've got a kid with Daisy, and Molly likes me. Unlike you, who has nothing."
"I heard the guy chasing Daisy gets along well with Molly too," Charles smirked. "Should I give him a hand?"
"You wouldn't dare," Austin's face fell.
Charles shrugged. "Keep talking about marriage, and I might just help him out."
"Are we still friends?" Austin asked, knowing Charles wasn't bluffing.
Charles didn't answer.
Austin decided to drop the subject.
He turned his attention to Jesse, who was one of Mark's groomsmen. Feeling nosy, he asked, "Remember Jesse, standing next to Mark?"
Charles gave him a look, urging him to get to the point.
"When I saw how he treated Daphne, I thought if she didn't remarry you, she might end up with him," Austin said seriously. "But nothing happened."
"You want to gossip about Daisy and that young guy?" Charles was getting annoyed.
Austin pouted. "I'm just saying."
"Matt is in the same crew as that young guy," Charles replied nonchalantly. "I could ask him to help."
Austin quickly shut up.
Single guys were tough to deal with, always getting riled up. They were so boring!
The wedding was grand, and after everything was done, Mark and his wife finally had a meal.
By the afternoon, most guests had left.
Charles and Austin said their goodbyes to Mark and headed out too. The only ones left were Jesse and some relatives and friends from out of town.
After the wedding, Mark and his bride changed into casual clothes. After making sure his wife was resting, he went to find Jesse.
Seeing Mark, Jesse was puzzled. "Why aren't you with your wife? What are you doing here?"
"Someone wants to see you," Mark said, pushing his glasses up with a knowing smile.
Jesse was confused, not sure who would want to see him.
"She's waiting for you in the room," Mark handed him a room key, his eyes full of mischief. "Go upstairs and find her."
"Who?" Jesse asked.
"You'll know when you get there," Mark teased. "You'll be pleasantly surprised."
Jesse was still puzzled but trusted Mark enough to go. Following the room number on the key, he arrived at room 1802 upstairs.
After double-checking the room number, Jesse knocked on the door.
Inside, it was silent. No response, no sound of anyone coming to the door.
