Chapter 243 Trouble Occurs
However, she didn't know how much her response had shocked Charles.
Charles thought, "Friend? Is he her boyfriend? Didn't she dislike being too close to people? Why didn't she move away from this man who was so close to her? Does she like him?"
All sorts of chaotic thoughts filled his mind.
If his reason hadn't triumphed over emotion, he might have once again grabbed her and left, demanding to know her relationship with this man.
However, he was very rational, even very clear.
To her, he was just an ex-husband.
He shouldn't disturb her too much.
"Let's go." Benjamin broke the tense atmosphere. "Evan and Kevin are still waiting over there."
Daphne responded, "Okay."
She didn't look at Charles again, passing by him like a stranger. The distance between them grew wider and wider until they were no longer in each other's worlds.
Charles stood there for a long time, unable to snap out of it.
The scene of Daphne passing by him with an indifferent and cold demeanor replayed in his mind in slow motion over and over again.
Mark called him several times, "Sir?"
"Sir?"
"Sir!"
In the end, Mark deliberately raised his voice.
Charles's eyes remained unchanged. "I can hear you."
"Should we leave?" Mark knew he was in pain, but some things couldn't be solved by feeling bad.
Charles didn't respond.
Mark didn't dare to say more.
After a while, Charles suddenly turned around and walked in the direction Daphne had left.
Mark was startled.
Mark immediately followed, lowering his voice to say, "You and Ms. Murphy are already divorced. Even if she likes others, you have no right to interfere."
Charles paused, his aura turning cold.
Mark's heart raced; he felt he had said something wrong.
"You think that's man she likes?" Charles's words were indifferent, revealing no emotion, but his eyes betrayed his feelings.
Mark said, "I don't know if that man is someone she likes, but it's clear that Ms. Murphy has a good relationship with him."
Charles remained silent and just walked over.
When the group came out in their sportswear, they saw someone sitting on a nearby bench.
It was Charles.
His gaze was fixed on Daphne, never wavering.
"Daphne," Kevin asked gossipingly, "Is your ex-husband here specifically to see you?"
"He has nothing to do with me," Daphne replied indifferently.
Kevin wanted to dig for more gossip.
But it was his turn to play tennis, so he didn't have time to ask more.
Benjamin stood next to Daphne. They didn't do anything intimate; they just chatted casually about daily life.
However, even so, Charles was already starting to feel jealous.
He couldn't hear what they were saying, but seeing Daphne patiently talking to someone for so long made him angry.
"Sir, out of sight, out of mind." Mark really didn't want to endure his low mood. "If you don't want to see Ms. Murphy with that gentleman, we should leave and go back."
Charles didn't respond.
Here, he could still see Daphne.
But if he left, he wouldn't even be able to see her.
After a while, Kevin got tired and took a break, and Benjamin took his place.
Watching the intense game, Charles knew the time had come. He told Mark not to follow and then stood up and walked towards Daphne.
Seeing him approach, Kevin became alert and whispered, "Daphne, your ex-husband is coming!"
"You don't need to tell me specifically," Daphne replied indifferently, "We're just familiar strangers."
She was only concerned about one thing now.
Could Evan hold on a bit longer? She didn't want to go on the court and play tennis with Benjamin.
As she was thinking this, Charles came to her side. Benjamin saw this, and his gaze deepened, even hitting the ball harder.
Evan, who received the ball, was stunned.
What was going on?
He instinctively looked in Daphne's direction and instantly understood everything.
"Daphne," Charles called her.
Daphne glanced at him sideways, not confrontational. "Do you need something?"
"Yes." Charles's aura was no longer cold, his gaze extremely complex. "I want to talk to you about the mysterious person who instructed Kayla."
Hearing this, Daphne paid more attention to him.
Charles hadn't seen her look at him so intently in a long time.
"Did he contact you?" Daphne asked.
Charles was silent; in fact, he hadn't.
But he really wanted to spend some time alone with Daphne, so he found another reason. "No, but I want to discuss it in detail to prepare for dealing with that person later."
"There's no need to talk now," Daphne replied indifferently, "We'll discuss it when Kayla contacts him."
Just then, her phone rang.
It was a call from Kayla.
She glanced at it, looked at the court, and then answered, "Hello."
"He called me." Kayla was trembling, fear overwhelming her.
Daphne asked, "What did he say?"
"He asked about your relationship progress. I told him what you said." Kayla's voice was low.
Daphne asked, "And then?"
Kayla said, "He, he seems to be suspicious."
Hearing this, Daphne frowned.
She spoke to her clearly, "Send me the recording of your conversation."
"I can't." Kayla was almost in tears.
Daphne was puzzled.
Before she could ask, Kayla explained, "My phone went black shortly after recording, and it won't start no matter what. I just bought a new phone and called you after taking out the SIM card."
Daphne sensed something was wrong.
She knew something had happened. "Where are you now?"
Kayla said, "I'm on my way back."
Daphne said, "Turn off your phone now. Don't do anything when you get back. Wait for me."
Hearing her serious tone, Kayla suddenly panicked but obediently said, "Okay."
As the call ended, she turned off her phone without hesitation.
She didn't dare delay.
"What happened?" Charles had never seen her so serious.
"Can I use Mark's computer?" Daphne was unusually tense, her heart racing.
Charles said, "Follow me."
Daphne glanced at Benjamin and Evan, told Kevin she had something to do and had to leave, then changed her clothes and left with Mark's computer.
She got into Charles's car, and Mark drove to Kayla's place.
In the car.
Her fingers moved quickly on the keyboard.
She opened the phone she had previously set up for Kayla and found traces of an attack on the system.
Because the attack hadn't succeeded, the phone was destroyed.
Seeing her close all the pages, Charles asked, "What happened?"
