Chapter 406 Living Together
"Do you gotta be so harsh?" Austin never saw this coming.
"Leave Daisy alone," Charles said, dead serious. "If Daphne hadn't stepped in, Daisy might've gone through with the abortion 'cause of you. You just bring up bad memories for her. Daisy ain't as tough or confident as Daphne. Best to just stay away."
Austin wanted to argue, but Charles had a point. Back then, he would've definitely pushed for the abortion.
He doubted the kid was his, and someone even told him the pregnancy was messing with Daisy's health. No way he could keep the kid.
"But I'm still the dad," Austin said, feeling the weight of it all.
"Do you want Daisy to regret not aborting?" Charles hit him with the cold, hard truth. "If you keep showing up and messing with her life, she might regret her choice."
Austin paused, his troubled eyes getting more serious. Could it really mess things up that bad?
"So, what do I do?" he asked.
"Once the baby’s here, send her money every month for child support," Charles suggested. "Don't be cheap. Make it a good amount."
Austin shot him a look, like, "I'm not cheap!"
"And what about you?" Austin switched gears, not wanting to dwell on it. "Daphne's with someone else now, why are you still in Gedser?"
"Got unfinished business," Charles replied.
"What kind of business?" Austin pressed.
"None of your business," Charles shot back, not giving anything away.
"You're something else," Austin said, frustrated. "Everything I ask is 'none of my business.' Can't you talk about something else?"
"I'm busy. Show yourself out," Charles said, not giving a damn.
Austin left, grumbling, "How rude! Over the top!"
After seeing him off, Charles went back to his study and picked up the report Mark had submitted. It was the investigation results on Benjamin.
Before Austin showed up, Charles had only skimmed it and hadn't had time to dive in.
Charles sat down, eyes on the report. When he got to the part about Benjamin retiring from some special organization, he felt a bit more at ease. This meant Benjamin could protect Daphne well.
Charles kept reading, learning about Benjamin's friends and social circle, outside of the organization.
After reading it all, Charles was at a loss for words.
Even though he didn't want to admit it, based on Mark's investigation and his own memories, Benjamin seemed like a solid match for Daphne and would take good care of her.
After staring at the report for a while, Charles put it aside. The investigation had involved talking to a lot of people, but the organization was super secretive. Even with Mark's best efforts, they only found out about the organization's existence.
A moment later, Charles called Mark and asked him to book a plane ticket to a specific foreign destination.
Mark knew right away what Charles was planning and bought two tickets—one for himself and one for Charles.
Meanwhile, Daphne and Benjamin had arrived at her villa.
Seeing the car heading the wrong way, Daphne quickly said, "Hey, you're going the wrong way. It's over there."
"Nope, I'm not," Benjamin replied.
"What?" Daphne asked, confused.
"Mine's this way," Benjamin said, being honest but still respecting her opinion. "How about crashing at my place this time?"
Daphne paused, then shrugged, "Alright, cool."
To her, it didn't really matter where she stayed, as long as it was in the same area and convenient for work.
"By the way, you said if you beat Austin, I'd have to agree to one of your requests. So, what do you want?" Daphne decided to get it out of the way, not wanting any surprises later.
Benjamin smirked, "I want you to stay at my place."
Honestly, if Daphne hadn't agreed to stay at his place, he wouldn't have used this request to make her.
With Benjamin, Daphne had total freedom. As long as she didn't flake out, he was cool with whatever she wanted.
"That's it?" Daphne asked, giving him a skeptical look.
"Yep," Benjamin replied.
Daphne pursed her lips. Why did something so simple need to be asked for?
"You don't seem too thrilled with my request," Benjamin teased lazily. "Would you rather I ask for something to take our relationship up a notch?"
Daphne was taken aback. Take their relationship up a notch? Did he mean that?
"I didn't think that. It's you," Daphne shot back.
"So you really want me to ask for something to move us forward?" Benjamin asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Benjamin," Daphne called out, unable to read his thoughts and wary of being tricked. "Just tell me what you want. I can't figure out your intentions."
"Anything?" Benjamin asked.
"Say it first," Daphne said.
If it was too much, she couldn't agree easily.
"Tuesday night, I want to reserve your time," Benjamin said casually. "How about it?"
Tuesday was Valentine's Day, and Wednesday was Daphne's birthday. He planned to celebrate Valentine's Day with her on Tuesday night, then take her to the place where he had prepared her birthday gift. As soon as it was midnight, he would give her the gift.
This way, he could celebrate her birthday and let her have fun with Emma and the others. Most importantly, he would be the first to wish her a happy birthday.
"Tuesday?"
"Yep."
"Okay," Daphne agreed. She immediately checked her calendar, wondering if she had forgotten any important dates. Why else would Benjamin want to reserve her time?
When she saw Valentine's Day marked on the calendar, she got it. Valentine's Day, huh? What should she get Benjamin? While she was lost in thought, the car pulled into the villa's garage.
Daphne looked around. There was a large garden with clean cobblestone paths and a wide grassy area on the other side.
Benjamin grabbed her suitcase and led her inside.
The villas here were designed and decorated by top-notch architectural and design teams. The interior design was tailored to the owners' tastes, with adjustments made to the building designs accordingly.
As a result, each of the twelve villas had a unique exterior.
For example, Daphne's villa was fully automated and decorated in black, white, and gray.
In contrast, Benjamin's villa had a warm and cozy interior, giving it the feel of a gentlewoman's home.
