Chapter 223 Are You Looking for Trouble?
When Daisy heard about these matters, she was utterly surprised. "How could it be Aubrey? I always thought she was a very kind girl. After all, she was the one who helped me call you."
She couldn't understand it. It was unbelievable.
"I was a bit surprised, too." Daphne admitted honestly.
"I have a question," Daisy asked, puzzled, "If Aubrey wanted to go against you, why would she help me?"
"There are two possibilities." Daphne had already thought about this.
Daisy asked, "What are they?"
"First, Aubrey might be crazy only about Charles, but in other matters, she is still a kind-hearted person," Daphne analyzed seriously.
If possible, she hoped Aubrey was just that kind of person and helped Daisy out of kindness.
Daisy, holding her phone, continued to ask, "What's the second possibility?"
"She deliberately left me with a positive first impression, so even if someone found out it was her, I would instinctively deny it," Daphne said slowly, "After all, my first impression of her was that she was a good person."
Daisy remained silent.
"You mentioned before that if you hadn't received that call that day, you would have protected your child with your life." Daphne didn't want to think the worst of people, but she had to think more. "She probably anticipated that and decided to do you a favor."
After all, it was a hospital, and no one really wanted to cause a death there.
Once things reached a stalemate, the hospital would definitely call Austin, and by then, it would be a different story.
Daisy felt a chill down her spine as she asked, "Why would Aubrey do those things? She has a good family background and everything she could want."
Daisy had always thought her circle was dark, full of constant scheming.
Now she realized that no matter the circle, such things existed.
Human nature was the most unpredictable thing.
"I don't know," Daphne replied. She didn't think too much about it because it wasn't her concern.
"What do you plan to do about this?" Daisy was quite worried about Daphne. Fortunately, she was smart; otherwise, something might have happened.
Daisy added, "It's almost impossible to catch Aubrey with evidence of what she did."
Daphne was silent for a moment before saying, "I'll go find Luke."
She had told Daisy she would find Edwin, but that was just a diversion. Because they were peers, it probably wouldn't be very effective.
Although Luke doted on the children of their family, he was very fair.
Of course, the most important reason was that she had some connection with Luke. If she talked to him, there wouldn't be any favoritism or cover-up for Aubrey.
"I heard Luke has an unusual status," Daisy was a bit worried as he said, "He seems to live in a military family community. Can you get an appointment to get in there?"
There were rumors in the social circle about the Smith family.
Luke had two sons, one in the military and one in business.
An industry executive previously wanted to meet him but was declined. Later, everyone said Luke didn't like meeting businessmen.
Daphne, the eldest daughter of the Murphy family, was unsure if he would agree to meet her.
"I can get an appointment," Daphne said to reassure Daisy. "I have connections."
"That's good." Daisy felt relieved.
Before hanging up, Daphne reminded Daisy once again about the previous matters.
Daisy repeatedly agreed. "Okay. Don't worry."
"You don't doubt me at all?" Daphne was actually a bit surprised.
"You are my friend, so I won't doubt you," Daisy said directly. She was clear about right and wrong. "I know your character."
"Thank you," Daphne felt much better as she said.
She had heard from adults or older peers that their most important friends in life were those they met while studying.
After leaving school, the friends they made were not as close.
But Daisy was truly wonderful.
Even before Daphne returned to her true identity, Daisy had always protected her and treated her very well.
Now that she knew she was a member of the Murphy family, her attitude had never changed.
"No need to thank me," Daisy said jokingly, "That's too silly."
"Goodbye," Daphne said.
After the conversation with Daisy ended, she called Luke.
When Luke found out it was Daphne's call, he was very happy and chatted with her over the phone about many daily things. When he heard that she wanted to visit him, he was even happier.
"I'll be waiting for you." Luke's serious voice carried a fondness for Daphne. "As long as it's you coming, I always have time."
Hearing him say that, Daphne touched her nose.
She suddenly felt a bit guilty about Luke's enthusiasm.
He was joyfully welcoming her, but she was going to bring him bad news.
"Then I'll schedule it for the sixth of next month." Daphne set a date.
"Good!" Luke agreed wholeheartedly.
Among all the elders Daphne interacted with, Marcus, Kieran, and Luke were very fond of her.
Only her grandfather, Sean, was not very satisfied with Daphne.
After hanging up, Luke, full of joy, made another call.
The person who answered had a deep, pleasant voice. "Grandpa Luke."
"Benjamin, Daphne is coming to see me on the sixth of next month." Luke's face remained serious, but his words were full of gossip. "Are you coming over?"
"Daphne will come to see you?" Benjamin's voice had a hint of surprise.
Luke immediately put on a stern face, asking, "Are you looking for trouble?"
"Got it." Benjamin seemed to chuckle, his voice very pleasant. "I have two boxes of good coffee beans. I'll bring them to you then."
"That's more like it," Luke smiled as he said.
"Please don't let it slip that I'm coming," Benjamin specifically instructed.
After Luke agreed, he hung up the phone. He lacked the enthusiasm he had when he was on the phone with Daphne, as if he was merely passing on a message to Benjamin.
Benjamin looked at the hung-up phone, rubbing it, a slight smile on his attractive, thin lips.
Meanwhile, after Charles had signed the documents, he was about to ask Mark to deliver them when he saw Mark hurry in. Mark's eyes were complex as he said, "Mr. Lancelot."
"What is it?" Charles asked.
"I found out what you asked me to investigate," Mark said, looking at the stack of documents in his hand, feeling a headache.
Charles looked at him, signaling him to speak.
"The real mastermind behind those previous events is Aubrey of the Smith family," Mark knew about Charles' relationship with her, so he struggled to say, "She hinted or inadvertently revealed information to get those people to help her."
Charles frowned slightly as if he didn't understand what Mark meant.
Mark pursed his lips and simply handed over all the documents. "See for yourself."
Charles took them, and as he read carefully, Mark asked, "How do you plan to handle this?"
