Chapter 615 Just Mind Your Own Business
Lydia showed up too. The whole family was having a blast together.
Seeing everyone so happy, Jesse felt a lump in his throat and almost teared up.
Diana, always the sharp one, tilted her head after hearing the conversation and asked, "So, does this mean my brother and I have an uncle now?"
"You didn't have an uncle before?" Louis asked, a bit puzzled.
"It's different now; we have another uncle," Diana said seriously. "Jesse will spoil me just like Lydia does."
Everyone laughed.
Gavin teased Diana for being ungrateful, but he was smiling.
Diana moved her chair between Jesse and Elara, tilting her head and asking, "Jesse, Elara, when are you getting married and having a baby?"
"How do you know Jesse and Elara want to have a baby?" Gavin asked Diana, "What if they don't want one?"
"Then I'll be their baby," Diana blurted out.
Elara ruffled her hair, her eyes full of affection. It was clear she loved kids.
The meal was super enjoyable, and Jesse felt a sense of belonging.
After dinner, Alexander, thinking about Jesse's situation, suddenly brought up Jesse and Elara's wedding plans. "What are your plans for the wedding? Are you inviting your parents?"
"No," Jesse said bluntly.
Alexander glanced at Daphne and Lydia, hesitating.
Jesse pursed his lips and said, "Just say whatever you want."
"I was thinking it might be a bit inappropriate if you don't have any elders at your wedding," Alexander said thoughtfully. "If you don't mind, how about I stand in as your parent?"
Jesse paused, stunned. "Is that okay?"
"You're my godson now, of course, it's okay," Alexander wanted Jesse to feel warmth. "But it's up to you."
"I'd like that." Jesse had been considering this but was afraid it might be presumptuous to bring it up. "Thank you, Alexander."
"Can Louis and I be the flower children?" Diana asked in her soft, innocent voice.
Elara, who adored Diana, replied gently, "Of course! If you and Louis are our flower children, Jesse and I will be happy forever."
"Then I'll go tell Louis," Diana smiled excitedly. She bounced upstairs to find Louis, who was studying, and told him about it.
Louis declined coolly, "You can ask Lon to go with you."
"No, we have to go together," Diana, skilled at getting her way, sat on his chair and nudged him. "Please?"
Louis ignored her, thinking his protectiveness over Diana had lessened. However, ever since they started attending the same preschool as Lon and Noe, he noticed that Diana had been following them around instead of him.
Now, Diana only reached out to Louis when she needed something. Any brother would feel hurt by that.
"Louis!" Diana snatched the book he was reading, speaking softly, "Stop reading and look at me. I'm your cute sister."
"Are you?" Louis asked coldly.
Diana grinned, "Of course I am."
"If I remember correctly, you're the Fisher family's child. Lon and Noe are your brothers," Louis said indifferently.
"That's nonsense," Diana retorted cutely, "Lon and Noe can't have a sister as cute as me. I'm only your sister!"
Louis wanted to scold her, but looking at Diana's innocent, adorable face, he couldn't bring himself to say anything. Though Diana often forgot about him when playing with others, she was the first to comfort him when he was upset.
"Louis," Diana called him sweetly.
Louis remained indifferent. "What's the matter?"
"Are you shy?" Diana climbed onto his desk, looking down at him. "You always refuse to join any activities."
Louis said, "No, I'm not."
"Then will you be the flower child with me for Jesse and Elara's wedding?" Diana brought the topic back, her eyes sparkling with hope.
Louis hesitated but finally relented. "We'll see how you behave."
Jesse was indeed good to them. Though Jesse didn't talk much, Louis could feel his care.
"Don't worry, I'll play less with Lon and Noe." Diana, being very smart, especially in such matters, promised, "I'll spend every day with you."
"Play with whoever you want; it has nothing to do with me," Louis, not one to easily admit his feelings, spoke.
"Nobody will like you if you keep acting like this," Diana suggested cutely, trying to guide Louis emotionally. "If you don't want me to play with Lon and Noe, just say so. If you don't speak up, no one will know what you're thinking."
"Would you listen if I did?" Louis asked.
He had mentioned it before, but Diana would either insist on playing with Lon and Noe or sneak off doing that without saying anything.
"Whether I listen or not is my business, but you have to say it," Diana explained, adding to avoid angering Louis, "I'm only looking out for you because I'm your sister. When you grow up, other girls won't understand you."
"I don't need them," Louis insisted coolly.
"Then I'll go tell Jesse and Elara you agreed to be the flower child," Diana said innocently, jumping off the desk.
Louis watched her with a mixture of concern and resignation. Every time she did that, he couldn't help but worry, afraid she might fall. But Diana never seemed to care about such things.
Just as he was about to relax, Diana turned back suddenly. "By the way, Louis," she said, her tone shifting slightly.
Louis, holding his book, naturally replied as he turned his gaze to look at her, "What's the matter?"
"Stop just studying all the time. You're five, not fifty." Diana thought Louis was like a little adult, hard to deal with.
"Just mind your own business," Louis replied indifferently.
