Chapter 493 Family Status
"Yo, Benjamin," Daphne shook off her thoughts and switched gears. "Aren't we getting our marriage license in like, two days?"
"Yup, you got it."
"I gotta ask you something."
"Shoot."
"What did you mean by the first three times we met when you popped the question?" Daphne was itching for an answer.
Benjamin knew where she was going but decided to let her sweat it out. "Remember that watch?"
'Not the watch again.'
Daphne racked her brain but came up empty. "When?"
"Figure it out yourself."
"If you don't spill, Emma and Zoey might stir up some drama at the wedding."
Classic threat, but she forgot Benjamin wasn't one to be pushed around.
Benjamin gave her a laid-back look, his voice cool but firm. "A threat, huh?"
"Call it what you want."
"Seems like you don't care much for me. Can't even remember our first meet," Benjamin teased.
Daphne sighed, knowing she wouldn't get a straight answer. She had to think. But seriously, what did the watch have to do with Benjamin?
Wasn't their first meeting when he was chewing them out?
Benjamin watched her struggle.
He still remembered how Daphne's skills were pretty meh when they first met, but she was stubborn as a mule, full of endless energy.
Total newbie, but acting like a pro.
Thinking about it, Benjamin's dark eyes sparkled with laughter and warmth.
Lucky for him, Daphne was his wife now, and he could protect her forever.
On May 20th, Daphne and Benjamin went to snag their marriage license.
Like any other couple, they filled out the forms, signed their names, got the license, and headed home.
License day was May 20th.
Family and friends day was May 21st.
Emma and Zoey were already waiting at home.
As soon as they walked in, Emma asked, "All set?"
"Yup."
"What a shame." Emma clicked her tongue.
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, "What's a shame?"
"Nothing." Emma quickly backtracked.
If Benjamin knew what Emma was talking about, he'd definitely find a way to mess with her.
Emma pulled Daphne over to Zoey and whispered, "Gotta ask you something."
"Shoot."
"Who runs the show at your place? Who's the boss?" Emma was super curious.
Sure, Benjamin had the upper hand before, but now that they were hitched, things should change, right?
"Him," Daphne glanced at Benjamin, who was watching them, and answered honestly. "He said after we got married, he'd handle the house, and I'd bring home the bacon."
Emma and Zoey had one thought: Daphne's spot in the household was toast.
"He handles the house, and I make the money," Daphne said seriously, totally cool with the setup.
Daphne had plenty of cash, so supporting Benjamin was no biggie.
"Hey, Benjamin," Emma piped up, still trying to boost Daphne's household cred.
Of course, she had her own reasons—like wanting Daphne to back her up when she got in trouble.
Benjamin gave her a look.
Emma cleared her throat. "You think Daphne's easy to fool?"
"Yup, she is," Benjamin replied without missing a beat.
How was she supposed to respond to that?
Daphne was used to it by now and knew she was pretty "easy to fool."
"Isn't it kinda unfair making Daphne earn the dough while you chill at home?" Emma teased, knowing they were tight.
Zoey chimed in, "Totally!"
"You got it all wrong. Benjamin handed over all his assets to Daphne. Now he's just got shares in the Reynolds Group. Basically, he's broke," Sam jumped in, proud of his inside scoop.
Broke? Yeah, right. No one bought it, 'cause those shares were worth a fortune.
Emma's eyes widened. "For real?"
"Yup, I saw his secretary doing the paperwork," Sam confirmed.
Emma's face lit up with a mischievous grin.
Next second, she grabbed Daphne's hand, dead serious. "Daphne, ditch Benjamin and marry me."
Zoey coughed, trying to keep it together.
Benjamin strolled over and asked Daphne, "You wanna marry her?"
"Nope," Daphne shot back without hesitation.
First day of marriage, she wasn't looking for drama.
"What's the big deal?" Emma, ever the instigator, pushed. "You've got all this cash now. Dump him, and let's travel the world. It'll be a blast!"
"Not exactly," Daphne replied quickly.
She shot Emma a look, warning her that Benjamin might actually get pissed.
"Why not?" Emma pressed.
"I heard Mr. McPherson from the McPherson family is looking for you," Benjamin said casually. "Should I sell your info to him?"
"I was just testing Daphne for you," Emma backpedaled. "And the results are in—Daphne's totally loyal."
Daphne rolled her eyes.
She thought, 'Is that Emery McPherson from Gedser?'
"You wouldn't tell him, right?" Emma asked, trying to sound casual.
"Take a guess."
"You and Daphne are perfect for each other!" Emma blurted out.
Benjamin gave her a look and finally said, "Don't do it again."
"Got it!" Emma sighed in relief.
Emma loved to flirt, but she didn't expect to mess with someone she couldn't handle. And mistaking Emery for a bartender? Classic Emma.
"What are you guys talking about?" Daphne wasn't usually into gossip, but she was curious about Emma and Zoey's deal.
Emma tried to play it cool. "Nothing."
"She flirted with Emery and didn't follow through," Benjamin spilled the beans. "Now he's hunting her down."
Daphne thought for a sec. "Flirting causes that much drama?"
With Emma's personality, she wouldn't lead people on.
Flirting was just for fun, as long as both were single and no one said no.
