Chapter 356 Ex-Husband and Ex-Wife

Charles didn't reply to the message or call back. Instead, he asked Mark, "If you argue with your girlfriend and she's mad, would you try to comfort her?"

"I don't have a girlfriend," Mark said honestly.

Charles pressed, "But if you did?"

Mark thought for a moment. "Depends on whose fault it is. If it's mine, I'd definitely try to confort her. If it's hers, I might reluctantly give her a way out."

"What if she doesn't answer your calls or messages, not giving you a chance to make it up?" Charles asked again.

Mark thought it was just casual talk. "Then I'd go find her and talk face-to-face."

Arguing in person was better. Through a screen, you couldn't tell the mood or expression behind the words.

"So, you're saying if someone really cares, they'll find other ways to contact the person if one way doesn't work?" Charles's thoughts seemed deep and unreadable to Mark.

Mark nodded. "Pretty much."

"Okay." Charles didn't want to chat further. "You go rest."

Mark felt something was off with Charles but couldn't figure out what.

"Mr. Lancelot?" Mark called hesitantly.

Charles's eyes lifted slightly, his handsome face captivating. "Anything else?"

"Aren't you going to contact Ms. Murphy?" Mark was worried. "She called you three times. You saw that, right?"

Given Daphne's personality, even calling twice was rare. Three times meant she was really concerned.

Charles's lips curved slightly. "I saw."

"Aren't you going to call back?" Mark asked.

"Didn't you say if someone truly cares, they'll find various ways to contact the other person?" Charles spoke slowly, different from his usual indifferent self. "If she can't reach me by phone, she can try another way."

Mark was puzzled. So, Charles's questions were about him and Daphne?

"I was talking about couples, not ex-husbands and ex-wives," Mark clarified.

At these words, a chill surrounded Charles. He hated hearing those two words.

"She said she'd be good to me and take care of me," Charles began to obsess, disliking Mark more because of the earlier conversation. "I confessed to her, so we count as a couple."

Mark thought, 'If Ms. Murphy would date you, I'd eat my hat!'

"Don't be an eyesore," Charles said coldly, ordering him to leave. "I'm going to sleep."

"You won't let me contact Ms. Murphy, and you ignore her calls." Mark still wanted to explain for Daphne. "If this continues, no matter how much she cares about you, you'll wear it all out."

Mark was sure Daphne's current kindness towards Charles was due to worry and guilt from when Charles almost died saving her, not affection.

"Get out." Charles's tone turned icy.

Mark really wanted to say, "Go ahead and throw a fit!" But he didn't dare say it.

Charles was different now. If he really said that, he might be packing his bags for good.

After taking a deep breath, Mark said, "Get some rest."

Then he went back to his room, thinking about how to let Daphne know Charles was here. Charles's current state was hard to read.

Suddenly, Mark had an idea. This hotel wasn't under the Lancelot Group but the Murphy Group. Maybe Charles chose this place hoping him would contact Daphne through the hotel staff.

With that in mind, Mark quietly left his room, revealed his identity, and arranged a meeting with the hotel manager.

He could have borrowed a phone from any staff or stranger to call Daphne, but that wasn't safe. If Daphne's number got leaked, it would be a real problem.

So, he went straight to the hotel manager.

Daphne was about to sleep when she got Mark's call. Seeing it was an unknown number, she still answered.

"Ms. Murphy, this is Mark," he introduced himself and explained, "Mr. Lancelot and I are at a hotel under the Murphy Group, the one closest to your place. His room number is 1803."

Daphne replied, "Got it."

After the call, she didn't go over immediately. It was late, and she wouldn't be able to say much to Charles.

The next morning, Daphne arrived at the hotel a little after 7 AM.

Charles wasn't up yet, so she waited outside.

Mark, knowing she was there, got up early and told her, "Ms. Murphy, when you see Mr. Lancelot, treat him like your partner and be patient."

"Okay," Daphne agreed.

"Thank you," Mark said, feeling a bit conflicted.

"No problem," Daphne replied calmly. She just wanted to get him treated and sent back. "Did he say anything to you?"

Mark recounted his conversation with Charles from the previous night, adding, "I thought he was just chatting. I didn't realize he was talking about himself and you."

"It's fine," Daphne said, relieved. She could handle Charles like a jealous Lydia, no big deal.

At seven-thirty, Charles got up. He expected many missed calls and messages, but there were none.

The good mood from last night vanished, replaced by cold indifference. He called Mark.

Mark immediately knocked on the door, his tone warm. "Mr. Lancelot."

Charles opened the door. His just-woken appearance was visible to both Daphne and Mark.

His eyes held coldness and anger from morning grumpiness. His slightly messy hair added a touch of warmth to his usual demeanor.

Charles looked at Mark, signaling him to come in, but then he saw Daphne standing nearby.
