Chapter 255 Her Position Isn't Something I Can Track.
Daphne neither screamed nor showed fear. "I want to know why."
"You really want to know?" Michael raised an eyebrow.
Daphne said, "Yes."
"Come over and kiss me, or please me." Michael's smile was captivating but also dangerous. "Maybe I'll be kind enough to tell you."
"Do you want money?" Daphne completely ignored his nonsense.
Michael had no feelings for women at all.
The frivolity he displayed at the moment was just one of his best disguises.
"Who doesn't want money?" Michael put down his glass, his crossed legs exuding a bit of nonchalance. "But right now, the thing I lack the least is money. Compared to money, I prefer..."
He deliberately paused here.
Daphne frowned slightly. "What?"
"You." Michael smiled, and everything around them seemed to dim in comparison.
Daphne was lost for words.
She didn't ask further.
She knew his purpose; she was going through the motions to avoid suspicion.
This man's suspicion was no less than Benjamin's.
Seeing her unmoved, Michael asked, "You don't believe me?"
"If you liked me, you should have come to Gedser to confess to me," Daphne said calmly, "not tied me up here to watch you eat, drink, and have fun."
Michael stood up slowly, his long eyes filled with a smile and interest as he stared at her.
Daphne met his gaze without flinching.
"No wonder Charles still can't forget you after the divorce." Michael moved closer, a pleasant, faint scent emanating from him. "Your personality is so intriguing, even I'm tempted."
Daphne asked, "Really?"
Michael said, "Of course."
"Then why don't you untie my hands?" Daphne's voice was steady, not believing him at all.
Michael's thin lips curved into a pleasing arc. "If I untie you, what if you run away?"
"You can just tie me up again," Daphne said.
"Ms. Murphy, you are indeed interesting." Michael picked up the wine glass beside him, swirled it a couple of times, and handed it to her. "How about this: you drink this glass of wine, and I'll untie your hands."
Daphne glanced at it but didn't move.
Of course, she didn't believe him.
"Since Ms. Murphy doesn't want to give me this face, I'll have to let you rest first." Michael looked very gentlemanly. "We can talk slowly tomorrow."
Saying that, one of the men took Daphne to the basement.
In the basement, Daphne frowned at the sight of the items there.
Chains, blood, several snakes.
Suddenly, she remembered the past, and her heart sank. So, had Kayla been kept in a place like this before?
At that moment, she seemed to see Kayla crying helplessly here, struggling, crying, begging for mercy, but getting no response.
Daphne took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
She would rescue Kayla from here.
"Ms. Murphy, what are you standing there for?" Michael walked over, still with that pleasing arc on his lips. "Aren't you going to rest?"
Daphne asked, "Is this a place for people to rest?"
Michael said, "Of course, Kayla stayed here for a long time."
Daphne's hands at her sides tightened slightly, not expecting him to be so heartless!
Michael was still smiling. "Don't worry, these snakes have had their fangs removed; they're harmless."
Daphne stood there without moving.
Michael didn't waste any more time there.
After giving Daphne one last look, he walked in with the other man and closed the basement door behind him.
The door made a loud noise.
As soon as they left, Kayla rushed over, her face full of anxiety. "Why did you lock Daphne in the basement?"
"You care about her?" Michael lifted her chin.
Kayla's body stiffened.
She and Daphne were supposed to be caring friends, but in front of this man, she shouldn't show any concern for Daphne.
"If you're worried she's scared, I can send you in to accompany her." Michael's light voice sent chills down her spine. "Do you want to go?"
Kayla wanted to say she was willing.
However, she couldn't say that.
If she did, he would definitely suspect her relationship with Daphne. Daphne had said that they should treat her the same as before, not to blow their cover.
"No need." She stammered in response.
"You did well on this mission." Michael reached out, took a clean glass and some wine from behind her, poured it, and handed it to her. "Drink this and get a good night's sleep. There's more to do tomorrow."
Kayla took the glass with her cold hands and obediently drank the wine.
Michael patted her head in satisfaction.
Kayla shivered.
Michael was extremely gentle, but there was little tenderness in his eyes "Go on up."
Kayla looked back frequently, but in the end, she could only go upstairs to the room she had occasionally stayed in before.
Not long after she left, a beautiful and dashing woman walked in from outside, still wearing a biker jacket, clearly having rushed over from somewhere else.
Michael sat there nonchalantly, his every move exuding elegance. Seeing her, he put down his glass. "Did K follow?"
"I don't know." Nina sat down casually.
Michael looked at her. "You don't know?"
"Her position isn't something I can track," Nina said, pouring herself a glass of water. I still haven't cracked the virus she implanted in my computer and server last time."
Michael's eyes were devoid of warmth, his brows furrowed in thought.
Nina was curious. "How are you so sure K will follow?"
"Since she tampered with Kayla's phone, it means she might already know I'm kidnapping Daphne to threaten Charles." Justin pondered. "She wouldn't miss such a good opportunity."
"What grudge do you have with her?" Nina was quite curious.
"I tricked her and almost got them all killed," Michael recalled the past and smiled. "Unfortunately, she managed to solve the big trouble I caused."
Nina said, "Then you're done for. She always avenges her grudges."
"That depends on whether she can pull it off," Michael said meaningfully.
Nina clicked her tongue.
She took another sip of water and then asked, "Where's Daphne?"
Michael said, "In the basement."
"You threw her in your basement?" Nina looked incredulous, then gave him a look of self-pity. "When Charles finds out, you're definitely done for."
Michael didn't respond to that. At the mention of Charles, he seemed lost in thought.
Nina didn't bother him; she just told him she was going to check on Daphne and then left the living room, heading towards the basement.
Michael didn't stop her, showing a special trust in her.
