Chapter 559 He Wants You to Be My Husband

"Jesse," Elara called out.

"What's up?" Jesse asked.

"You're really sweet," Elara said, not hiding her feelings.

Jesse felt a bit awkward. He was usually pretty chill, but he never knew how to handle Elara's compliments.

"The car's actually mine. I didn't tell you 'cause I thought you'd doubt my motivation for leaving the company and finding a new job," Elara explained, feeling relieved by the excuse Jesse had given her. "That's why I kept quiet."

"What kind of car do you like?" Jesse asked straight up.

Elara was surprised. "Huh?"

"I'll buy it for you," Jesse said, his wealth making it a non-issue. "Consider it a gift."

"Come with me to the dealership tomorrow," Elara accepted without a second thought. "Help me pick one."

"Sure," Jesse agreed.

Jesse wasn't really into cars. Even though he had a ton of money, he only owned three. Most of the time, he just used company cars for work trips.

Elara smiled, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

Just then, Elara's phone rang. It was Harry calling.

She instinctively hung up and messaged him on Facebook: [What's up?]

She had just taken Harry off the blacklist, and now he was blowing up her phone again?

Harry didn't reply to her messages, just kept calling.

After a few calls, Jesse noticed and, remembering past events, asked, "Is it your dad?"

Elara nodded. "Yeah."

"Why don't you answer?" Jesse pressed.

"He's just bored and calling for fun," Elara tried to brush it off.

"Answer it," Jesse said calmly but with concern. "He might be worried about you."

Elara wanted to say he wasn't, but seeing the phone ring again, she turned down the volume and answered, "Dad."

"You still remember I'm your dad?"Harry snapped "What kind of taste do you have in man?"

Elara was puzzled. "What?"

"Willie said you found a guy who mooches off women and just brags," Harry continued bluntly, worried Elara might be getting played. "When did your judgment get so bad?"

"When did you start believing what others say?" Elara shot back.

Harry was momentarily speechless. He didn't want to rely on others' words, but Elara was his daughter. Could he just let it go?

"Is he with you?" Harry changed the topic.

Elara glanced at Jesse and replied, "No."

Jesse turned his head slightly. "Is your dad asking about me?"

Elara and Harry both went silent.

Jesse kept driving, his voice steady. "Put the phone on speaker. I'll talk to your dad."

"No need," Elara thought Harry just wanted to stir up trouble.

"You live with me. It's normal for your dad to want to know more," Jesse said coolly, analyzing the situation. "If you were my daughter, I'd ask questions too."

"Don't assume hypotheticals," Elara rolled her eyes at him.

Why did he assume she was his daughter? She wanted to be his wife!

Harry was speechless for a moment.

After thinking it over, Elara put the phone on speaker, feeling a bit nervous. "You can talk now."

"Hello," Jesse said, stopping at a red light and watching the countdown. "I'm Jesse, Elara's friend."

"Hello," Harry's anger faded with Jesse's polite tone.

But then Harry paused, thinking about Jesse's introduction, and asked cautiously, "Did you say your name is Jesse?"

The car's license plate from last time was traced back to HorizonTech Group, and this guy's name was Jesse. Could it be that the person Elara liked was someone he knew?

"Yes," Jesse replied clearly.

"Elara can be a bit of a handful. Has she caused you any trouble living with you?" Harry suddenly changed his attitude, feeling more at ease.

Elara was confused.

When the light turned green, Jesse started driving again and replied naturally, "No, she's great."

"She hasn't lived outside much. If possible, I'd like to ask you to take care of her," Harry said, feeling good about Jesse, knowing him from the same social circle. "If she throws a tantrum, just call me."

"Don't worry, I'll take good care of her," Jesse promised.

"Good," Harry said, not wanting to intrude further. "I won't disturb you then."

"Goodbye," Jesse said.

"Goodbye," Harry responded.

The call ended.

Elara felt like she was dreaming. Was that really Harry?

"Jesse," Elara had some doubts.

"What's up?" Jesse asked.

"Do you have some special ability?" Elara began to suspect. "Like hypnotizing someone over the phone or making them like you."

Jesse looked puzzled.

Elara was about to say more when her phone buzzed.

Harry: [Is the person you're pursuing Jesse?]

Elara paused for a moment and then honestly admitted: [Yes.]

Harry: [Then you better work hard. From what I know, Jesse is all about his work and has never dated. It might be tough to win him over.]

Seeing this message, Elara paused.

She glanced at Jesse, who was driving, and then asked: [You're not against it?]

Harry: [Why would I be? If your future husband is Jesse, I would be very satisfied.]

Elara pondered over her phone, not expecting this outcome.

Harry: [I won't disturb you for now. Take your time pursuing Jesse.]

After replying with an okay, Elara put her phone down.

Thinking about Harry's attitude, Elara glanced at Jesse, wondering why Harry was so satisfied with him.

Jesse noticed her gaze and asked while driving, "What's up?"

"My dad just said something to me," Elara decided to test Jesse's true thoughts.

"What did he say?" Jesse asked.

"He said he wants you to be my husband," Elara watched Jesse's face closely, not missing any expression. "What do you think?"

"You should ask yourself that," Jesse said, not thinking much of it, considering it a typical parental push for marriage. "The person you like will become your husband."
