Chapter 702 The Result of the Test
"That's good. I was worried someone at the company might be secretly trying to harm him," Diana said with a sigh of relief.
"You don't need to worry about that. Mr. Garcia isn't someone who takes losses lightly. Anyone who dares to harm him should be prepared to face the consequences," Alvin blurted out instinctively. "He may seem aloof and distant, but he's actually very capable."
"True, after all, he's the president of the Lancelot Group." Diana nodded. "Does he have any hobbies or interests?"
"Not really," Alvin said, recalling from his memory. "Golf, tennis, those are mostly for business meetings. Other than work, he just exercises."
"That's pretty good," Diana said.
"Actually, it's not that good," Alvin muttered under his breath.
"What?" Diana heard him.
"Nothing," Alvin replied naturally, without giving anything away. "I just think Mr. Garcia has it tough, managing such a big company. It's a lot of pressure."
"But he has you, right?" Diana praised him, speaking slowly. "You're his right-hand man."
Alvin smiled but said nothing.
They chatted about other things.
The more they talked, the more Diana discovered.
Eventually, Diana sighed, "I actually envy Caspian. With Charles taking care of him and you as his capable assistant, he has no worries in life or career."
"Aren't you in a similar situation?" Alvin probed.
"It looks similar on the surface, but it's far from it," Diana sighed with a troubled expression, showing her acting skills. "Don't laugh at me, but I came here to pursue him. If I can't win him over, I'll have to go back and enter an arranged marriage."
"Is it with the Hagen family?" Alvin asked tentatively.
Diana was slightly surprised. "How did you know?"
"To be honest, I heard a bit about it when Mr. Garcia attended a business banquet," Alvin said sincerely, not realizing Diana was acting. "I was ordered to do some investigation."
"He knows?" Diana asked.
Alvin nodded. "Yes."
"What did he say?" Diana asked again.
Seeing her state, Alvin felt uncertain but decided to be honest. "Mr. Garcia said it's a good match. Mr. Hagen is humble, well-educated, and comes from a good family. He thinks you two are well-suited."
"He really said that?"
"Yes."
"So, no matter how hard I try to pursue him, he won't like me?" Diana asked again.
Alvin opened his mouth, wanting to say that Caspian liked her, but remembering Caspian's instructions, he didn't dare to say it directly.
Just as Alvin was thinking of how to make Diana feel better, Diana suddenly said, "Alvin, come have a drink with me. My treat."
"Well..."
"Let's go!"
Diana took Alvin with her.
She wasn't really upset; she had known about this before.
The reason she put on this act in front of Alvin was that she was sure Alvin knew something about Caspian.
Diana knew that if she asked directly, Alvin definitely wouldn't tell her anything. She had to pretend to get drunk and cry her heart out, making Alvin feel bad enough to tell her something.
At the bar.
Diana ordered a lot of drinks.
Seeing all the high-proof alcohol, Alvin's expression became complicated. "Drinking won't solve your problems. How about we find another way to vent?"
"No need, this is fine." Diana opened a bottle herself. "You don't have to force yourself to drink with me. Just call Charles for me when I get drunk."
"Okay." Alvin sat beside her.
Diana drank one glass after another, crying as she drank, looking just like a heartbroken girl.
After three bottles.
Diana pretended to be drunk, lying on the table and crying, "Why doesn't he like me? Why?"
"Diana?" Alvin called her.
"I've liked him for so many years," Diana continued to cry, ignoring Alvin. "I thought he would like me a little. He even carved a doll for me when we were kids."
"Why? I'm not bad."Diana mumbled incoherently.
Seeing her like this, Alvin immediately called Charles and told him about Diana getting drunk.
After getting a response, Alvin hung up the phone.
"What's wrong with me?" Diana continued to drink, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Diana was already beautiful, and now she looked so fragile that Alvin couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
He stood up and took the bottle from her hand, speaking earnestly, "Mr. Garcia actually likes you."
"You're lying." Diana grabbed the bottle back, tears filling her eyes. "He told me himself that he doesn't like me, that he hates me."
"No, he really likes you," Alvin thought she was drunk and decided to tell her. "I can guarantee that one hundred percent."
From the past to the present, and from now to the future, Caspian's heart had always belonged to Diana.
Diana lay on the table as if she couldn't move, the bottle rolling off the table and her tears falling one by one, looking very fragile.
"Actually..." Alvin hesitated.
Diana didn't ask, continuing to act drunk.
Because of this, Alvin thought she was really drunk.
After all, if she wasn't this drunk and this heartbroken, her tears wouldn't have flowed for so long.
"Mr. Garcia might have rejected you because of his illness," Alvin finally said, looking at the still-crying Diana. "He's afraid of hurting you, afraid that you'll want to leave when you find out."
'Illness? What illness couldn't Richard cure?' Diano thought to herself.
"You're feeling bad, but Mr. Garcia isn't doing well either," Alvin sighed deeply, feeling heavy-hearted. "He hasn't gone for a check-up in years, but since you came, he's been several times."
A simple sentence stirred some waves in Diana's heart.
Thinking about past events, Diana had a guess: a psychological illness?
"What's wrong with him?" Diana couldn't pretend to be drunk anymore and sat up to ask him.
Alvin's expression froze, and he was stunned for a moment. "You... you..."
