Chapter 690 Love Is Not Everything in Life
"Do you hate me?" Diana asked him.
Caspian didn't answer her, just silently ate his meal.
This reminded Diana of that winter break when she first met him. He was just as stubborn, keeping his head down and saying nothing.
"Charles," Diana wasn't one to feel awkward, so she switched to another conversation partner. "Is he always this silent when you're with him?"
"Pretty much," Charles replied honestly.
Caspian wasn't much of a talker. Even at work, he was concise when giving instructions and conveying information.
Over the years, the number of times Caspian spoke unnecessarily could be counted on one hand.
Diana glanced at Caspian and didn't say anything more. She just kept stuffing meat into her mouth, and after a few bites, she praised the cook several times, saying the food was delicious.
Seeing Diana so happy eating, even breaking into a sweat, Caspian instinctively pulled a napkin from the side and handed it to her. Realizing what he had done, he naturally handed the napkin to Charles instead.
Both Diana and Charles noticed this gesture.
"Give it to Diana." Charles wanted Caspian and Diana to get along better. Even if they couldn't be as close as they were when they were kids, at least they shouldn't act like they had a grudge. "She needs it more."
Caspian's hand paused, unsure of what to do.
Diana quickly took the napkin from Caspian's hand and smiled warmly. "Thanks!"
"You're welcome." Caspian continued eating from his own bowl.
But the touch of Diana's fingers lingered on his fingertips.
It was brief, yet deeply memorable.
"By the way." Diana decided to take a break from eating and sipped some fruit wine before chatting with Caspian. "Do you have a girlfriend now?"
Although Charles had told her a lot about Caspian, there were some things Charles might not know.
Since she was here to pursue him, she needed to clarify these things. If Caspian had a girlfriend, it wouldn't be good.
"Yes," Caspian replied without changing his expression.
Charles was the first to ask, "When did you start dating?"
"A few years ago," Caspian said seriously, his chiseled profile calm.
Charles and Diana exchanged a glance.
Charles asked, "Why haven't we heard about it?"
"She went abroad a month after we started dating," Caspian said convincingly. "She just came back recently."
"What's her name?" Charles pressed.
Caspian naturally replied, "Sabrina Silverwood."
Charles paused.
He had heard the name Sabrina Silverwood before; she seemed to be Caspian's high school classmate.
"That's nice." Diana wasn't affected at all. Instead, she asked with concern, "When do you plan to get married?"
"Next year," Caspian replied.
Seeing Caspian answer without hesitation, Charles instinctively looked at Diana.
The person she had liked for so long was about to marry someone else. Diana must be feeling terrible.
"Let me know when the wedding date is set." Diana's eyes curved into a crescent moon, her emotions unaffected. "So I can attend."
Caspian's lowered eyes darkened.
"Charles, let's keep eating," Diana continued eating.
It was as if the previous conversation was just a brief chat between friends.
After dinner, Caspian chatted with Charles for a while before leaving.
As soon as he left, Charles went to the study to find Diana.
When Charles entered, Diana was playing a game with her two friends and Eddy. Seeing that it was a critical moment in the game, she told Charles, "Ten minutes."
Charles nodded and sat on the nearby sofa.
Her friends' voices came through the phone, "What ten minutes?"
"Ten minutes to finish the game," Diana, who was close with them, said. "I have something to do."
"What are you doing so late at night?" they asked, and then inquired, "Aren't you in Ivrea City to pursue someone? How's it going?"
"It's going nowhere." Diana wasn't worried at all.
Diana quickly operated the game, and what was supposed to take ten minutes only took seven.
After finishing the game, she told them she was done playing and logged off. She then sat on the sofa next to Charles. "What's up?"
"You..." Charles's deep gaze fell on her face, which showed no signs of sadness.
Diana wondered, 'What's going on?'
"If you're unhappy, just say so," Charles rephrased, trying to be considerate of her feelings. "You don't have to be embarrassed with me."
"I'm not unhappy," Diana replied.
Charles clearly didn't believe her. If the person he liked told him they had someone else, he would be too upset to eat.
But Diana not only pretended to be fine and finished her meal, but she also put on a brave face to keep him from worrying. He couldn't help but feel heartbroken for her.
"Are you talking about Caspian saying he has a girlfriend?" Diana thought for a moment and understood.
Charles nodded.
Diana smiled. "We don't know if that's true or not. Caspian might just be making it up."
"What if it's true?" Charles asked again.
"If it's true, I'll stay here with you for a few days and then go back to Gedser." Diana was open-minded. "It might be hard, but I'll get over it."
Charles's eyes were complicated, not knowing what to say to Diana. After all, he wasn't good at dealing with matters of the heart.
"But I think it's probably a lie." Diana shared her guess. "Caspian's personality means he's single-minded about things. You said his place still has the wooden figure he gave me, and you saw my photo in his bedroom.
These things happened within the past year. He couldn't be dating someone else while keeping my photo."
When Diana first visited Ivrea City, Caspian gave her a wooden figure before she left.
The second time she came, she gave Caspian the wooden figure he had given her and exchanged it for a new one he had carved of himself.
Now, over ten years later, Caspian still kept it, which must mean something.
"Don't worry, I'll find out the truth," Diana reassured Charles. "I do like him, but love isn't my whole life."
That night, Diana asked Louis to check the relationship between Sabrina and Caspian.
As for herself, she finished her tasks and went to sleep.
She slept soundly, but some people stayed awake all night.
