Chapter 28 Love to Introduce People So Much
"Isn't it true?" His eyebrows furrowed in pain as he retorted.
"It takes a brain thrombus before you can say such words in less than ten years." Daphne was truly angry; she felt that he was just superficial. "Why should I feel inferior for the mistakes you made? Without Kayla, I would have lived even better."
"You can try." Charles's anger rose too; he spoke harshly, matching her tone. "See who, apart from me, would be willing to part with so much in a divorce."
"Daphne, you need to recognize your place."
"I admit you are exceptional, but the world is not lacking exceptional people."
"People in the business world prioritize their own interests. They will register their prenuptial property before getting married. Once you divorce them, you won't get a penny."
After Daphne punched him, her heart calmed a little. "Have you finished talking?"
"The Murphy family is not your backing, and you are not Lydia either," Charles concluded with his final words.
"I don't need you to remind me," Daphne said seriously, finishing her sentence. "I never got married to divide property in a divorce."
Charles paused.
Daphne continued, "Whether he signs a prenup or not doesn't matter to me. What I want is simply someone who loves and cherishes me, and is willing to share a happy little home with me."
"Do not judge others based on your own life and character," Daphne's last remaining bit of patience disappeared completely. "Not everyone is a scumbag like you."
After saying this, without waiting for his response, Daphne left.
Charles remained speechless for a long time, his mind filled with Daphne's words.
She said all she wanted was someone who loved and cherished her.
At the moment, a great unease surged in Charles's heart. It felt as if something had completely left his life and would never return.
"Boss..." Mark tentatively called out, unable to express his feelings.
The boss had an argument with Mrs. Lancelot. The boss even got hit by Mrs. Lancelot.
Charles didn't say anything, opened the car door with a long leg, sat inside, leaned back, closed his eyes, his messy hair falling onto his forehead, and there was a hint of desolation in his entire being.
The atmosphere inside the car was heavy, oppressive.
Charles didn't say where to go, so Mark just drove around. They didn't know how much time had passed. Charles opened his eyes, and his dark eyes were covered with a layer of haze. "Mark."
"Boss."
"Do you think she was right?"
"I...," What could he say that would be right?
"If she really didn't care about money, why would she ask for so much in the divorce?" Charles's sense of chill intensified; it seemed like he was trying to convince himself. "Noble words may be spoken, but in reality, it all ends up the same."
Mark hesitated.
He felt the need to remind him, "I don't think Mrs. Lancelot is that kind of person."
"She's really capable, even you can be bought." Charles spoke with a cold tone, his impression of Daphne worsening.
Mark's mindset was somewhat collapsing, so he calmly analyzed, "According to our country's laws, post-marital property indeed belongs to both spouses. It's normal for Mrs. Lancelot to want half."
He didn't dare to say that Rex also thought Mrs. Lancelot was right.
"I didn't ask for hers."
"That's because you didn't want it yourself."
Charles' aura suddenly grew heavy, "Mark!"
"Boss, let me say something you might not like to hear," Mark gathered his courage, "You were unfaithful first, and Mrs. Lancelot was kind enough not to kick you out."
"?"
His expression turned sour, "When did I cheat?"
Mark kept silent, not daring to continue.
Charles grew angrier and angrier.
Just then, Mark's phone rang, and seeing that it was a call from someone named Kayla, he turned around and said, "Boss, Miss Baker is calling."
"That's your business," Charles snapped at him, in a bad mood, "Don't I have the right to contact her now?"
"..." He silently drove, planning to reply to the message later when he got back.
Meanwhile, On Daphne's end.
After leaving, she returned to the hospital.
Mr. Murphy was still waiting for her in the hospital room. As a father, even though he had a distant relationship with his daughter, he still wanted to care for her and didn't want to see her being bullied.
After waiting for half an hour.
Lydia became restless and discussed with Mr. Murphy, "After Daffy comes back later, we must find out why she divorced Charles. We can't let her be unjustly treated."
"Alright," Mr. Murphy agreed.
Just as they were about to say something else, the door to the hospital room was opened.
Daphne walked in, still looking as calm as before, as if the anger she had with Charles was all a pretense.
"Daffy."
"Daffy."
Both of them spoke at the same time.
Daphne was confused by their complicated expressions, and after gently closing the door, she asked, "What's wrong?"
"Why did you and Charles divorce?" Lydia knew it was hard for her dad to ask, so she took the initiative, "Don't use the excuse of a broken relationship to fool me!"
Daphne paused.
She had intended to keep it hidden, but seeing their expressions, she chose to tell them.
"His crush came back."
"?"
"?"
Daphne put her phone aside to charge, sitting across from her dummy dad, "It's also a form of a broken relationship. He brought up the divorce, and I agreed."
"You're not joking, are you?" Lydia started to doubt life a little.
Daphne raised her eyebrows slightly, "No, I'm not."
"So, is there something wrong with his brain or his eyes?" Lydia couldn't understand. "You're rejecting such an outstanding person and choosing a crush instead?"
Daphne didn't answer.
A crush, someone who occupies your mind but isn't by your side, someone you can't forget and can't have.
No matter which kind, they are significant to the person involved.
"I think there's something wrong with both of them!" Mr. Murphy got angry.
Daphne glanced at him.
Mr. Murphy's anger subsided, and he could only ask, "How did you end up being attracted to him in the first place?"
"Because he's good-looking." Daphne's answer was simple.
But the fact proved that being good-looking was not enough.
"..."
Lydia sighed inwardly; she knew Daphne was a face-judger.
Mr. Murphy always asked direct questions, "How far along are you with your divorce?"
"We've filed the application, and once the cooling-off period is over, we'll go get the divorce certificate." Daphne didn't hide anything.
"We must get it!" Lydia didn't have any good feelings towards that scumbag, feeling indignant. "He doesn't deserve to be with you at all, he's simply trash, a jerk, an asshole!"
