Chapter 102 No One Is More Important to Me Than You
Before Sharon could speak, Karen grabbed her hand and said, "Sharon, you know how much your dad's been through in the hospital all these years. Now that we have a kidney match, he can finally get out soon..."
Seeing the desperation in Karen's eyes, Sharon felt a wave of bitterness. From the moment Alex used the kidney match to threaten her, she knew she had lost.
She couldn't just let Robert die; she had to act like nothing had happened.
Seeing Sharon's blank face, Karen grew anxious. "Please, Sharon, I'm begging you. If you agree, I'll do anything for you."
Karen even started to kneel, but Sharon stopped her. "Aunt Karen, I know what to do."
"Thank you. I'm sorry."
Karen was so emotional she almost cried, but seeing Sharon's pale face, she held back.
Sharon looked at Alex and said coldly, "You can leave now. When my dad wakes up, I'll explain everything. I won't let him think you cheated during our marriage."
Alex stepped forward and, ignoring Sharon's resistance, wrapped his arm around her. He whispered in her ear, "Sharon, if I'm not here, your dad won't believe it when he wakes up."
Sharon took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to push him away, and turned her face coldly to the side silently.
Alex smiled with satisfaction, a cold glint in his eyes. It seemed Robert's kidney transplant would have to wait a bit longer. How else could he make Sharon keep compromising?
Not far away, Ava saw Alex holding Sharon and turned pale with anger.
She would never let Sharon have it easy!
Thinking about the kidney match they mentioned, Ava quickly came up with an idea and walked away briskly.
It wasn't until dawn that Robert woke up.
When he saw Alex and Sharon, his first words were to demand they get a divorce.
Sharon saw Robert's agitated expression and, afraid he might faint again, quickly walked to the bedside and sat down, whispering, "Dad, it was a misunderstanding last night. That woman is my good friend. I had a stomachache, so I asked Alex to come over first."
Robert looked at Sharon with disappointment in his eyes. "Sharon, are you going to lie to me, too? Even though the Wright family went bankrupt, I don't want you to suffer in your marriage. I just want you to be happy. Do you understand?"
Of course, Sharon understood. When she was young, no matter how busy Robert was, he would always make time to spend two hours with her.
She lacked Kimberly's companionship during her childhood, so Robert gave her double love, truly treating her like a princess.
Robert always said that his greatest wish was for her to live freely and happily, and nothing else mattered.
Sharon took a deep breath and looked at Robert, saying, "Dad, he's the one I love. I'm happy with him, and it was really a misunderstanding last night."
Robert frowned and was about to speak when Karen quickly interjected, "Alright, Sharon and Alex already explained everything to me while you were unconscious. It was truly a misunderstanding. Stop being so suspicious; they're doing just fine!"
Robert questioned, "Really?"
Robert frowned. Even Karen was saying this, so he began to doubt whether he had really misunderstood Alex last night.
"Of course, it's true. The two of them were so scared when you fainted and stayed at the hospital all night. Don't make things difficult for them anymore. Sharon, you guys should go home and rest."
Sharon nodded. "Dad, Alex has to go to work later. We'll come see you later."
She pulled Alex out of the hospital room.
At the elevator, Sharon's expression turned cold. "Go be with Ava. I need to rest."
Alex frowned. "I'll take you home. You didn't sleep all night; I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone."
Sharon smiled mockingly, "Ava's dad is having surgery. Can you really leave her alone?"
"Sharon, no one is more important to me than you."
Sharon looked at Alex, his eyes filled with the same loving gaze as always, but she no longer felt moved.
"Don't say things like that. Lies told too often will trap the liar as well."
Alex was about to speak when a choked voice came from behind them.
"Alex, my dad..."
Alex turned to see Ava with tears in her eyes, looking frail. His eyes involuntarily dilated, and his hand clenched tightly at his side.
Seeing his reaction, Sharon chuckled and stepped into the elevator without hesitation as the doors opened.
She had no interest in fighting Ava over a cheating Alex.
"What happened to him?"
"The doctor said his kidney is ruptured and he needs a transplant."
"What?"
Alex turned sharply to look at Sharon, only to find she had left.
When he saw that the elevator had already reached the first floor, his eyes turned cold.
Ava came to him, and Sharon remained so calm and left directly. He didn't know whether to praise her for being magnanimous!
Ava's sobs brought him back to reality. He turned to see her wiping her tears, feeling a surge of irritation.
"How did this happen suddenly?"
Ava choked out, "It's not just his kidney; other organs are damaged, too, but not as severely as his kidney. Alex, what am I going to do? If my dad dies, our family is finished."
Alex knew a bit about Ava's family. Her parents were farmers, and she had a younger brother still in high school. The family's income mainly came from selling crops.
If her father died, it would indeed be a devastating blow to her family.
When Alex thought about the kidney match intended for Robert, his eyes darkened.
He had planned to delay Robert's kidney transplant operation, but he hadn't thought about giving the kidney to someone else.
But seeing Ava cry so pitifully, he couldn't help but feel soft-hearted.
"I'll see what I can do about the kidney match, but I can't guarantee anything."
Ava looked at him with gratitude and surprise. "Really? Thank you, Alex. I don't know how to thank you. If you can find a kidney match, you'll be our family's savior!"
The gratitude and excitement in Ava's eyes greatly satisfied Alex's male ego, almost making him promise to find a kidney match by tomorrow.
Ava's reaction was normal. As for Sharon, she had only said thank you when he found the kidney match and remained cold to him otherwise.
The more he thought about it, the more unbalanced Alex felt.
Besides the cheating, he believed he hadn't wronged Sharon, yet she had sentenced him to death for one mistake.
Seeing Alex's gloomy face, lost in thought, Ava lowered her eyes and said nothing more.
Alex hadn't directly refused, which meant there was room for negotiation.
She would make sure that the kidney didn't go to Sharon's father, Robert.
Only then would Sharon be completely hopeless, and her relationship with Alex would reach a dead end.
