Chapter 91 But even having feelings was useless.
Seb had saved her countless times, always showing up when she was in danger. It was hard not to catch feelings for him.
But even if she did, it didn't matter. Between them, it was just impossible.
They couldn't even get past the gossip. Plus, she was still married to Alex.
Sharon took a deep breath and said to Seb, "Mr. Smith, I'm willing to apologize because you've helped me a lot, and I want a chance to repay you. As for Alex, he cheated and betrayed me first, so I naturally don't want to apologize to Emily for his sake."
Seb's eyes turned icy, and his gaze at Sharon was cold.
"I understand, Ms. Wright. Please leave. Silvercrest Group doesn't need to sacrifice a woman to apologize to the Young family for benefit."
After saying this, Seb no longer looked at Sharon and went back to his documents.
Seeing his cold profile, Sharon felt a pang of bitterness and bit her lip.
"Mr. Smith, if you need anything, you can have Mr. Harris contact me anytime."
Seb didn't respond, but his already cold expression darkened further.
Sharon didn't expect him to answer. After speaking, she turned and left.
Back in the office, Ashley looked at her with a puzzled expression. "Sharon, are you in some kind of trouble? Do you want to talk about it and see if I can help?"
Sharon shook her head and forced a smile. "No, I just didn't sleep well last night, so I'm a bit tired."
Ashley frowned. Sharon had been fine all morning, but she seemed lost after Ashley mentioned that several companies had terminated their contracts with Silvercrest Group.
Sharon couldn't be worried that Silvercrest Group's downfall would affect her job, could she?
The more Ashley thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
"Sharon, as a fellow worker, I understand your feelings, but you don't need to worry. Silvercrest Group is such a large corporation; it won't collapse just because a few companies terminated their contracts. At most, it will lose a few million dollars."
Sharon was about to speak when her phone suddenly rang.
Seeing the number, her eyes flickered. "I need to take this call."
She walked to the staircase and answered the call. "How's it going? Any progress?"
A deep male voice came from the other end. "Yes, let's meet tonight to discuss. I'll send you the address later."
Now wasn't the best time to talk, so Sharon replied softly, "Okay."
She hung up the phone, and shortly after, a text message came through: [8 PM.]
Sharon walked into a bar called Just One and asked the waiter to take her to the reserved private room number seven.
The person was already waiting for her and smiled when he saw Sharon. "Ms. Wright, this is our first meeting. My name is Brian Hill. Please have a seat."
Brian was a private investigator Sharon had hired. He was well-known in the industry, and there was nothing he couldn't find if he wanted to.
Brian used to be an entertainment journalist. Several major scandals that shook the entertainment industry last year were exposed by him.
Brian was slim and slight in stature with average features, the kind of person you wouldn't notice in a crowd. But he had a long scar running from his right forehead to his left jaw, giving him a somewhat intimidating look.
It's said that this scar was the result of revenge from people Brian had offended in the entertainment industry. Not long after he got injured, he announced he would no longer be an entertainment journalist and became a private investigator.
Sharon sat down across from Brian and said calmly, "Mr. Hill, hello. Do you have any updates on the matter I asked you to investigate?"
Knowing how much this mattered to her, Brian didn't waste any time and handed her a document. "Ms. Wright, you'll understand once you read this."
If he hadn't found something substantial, Brian wouldn't have met Sharon in person.
As she read the document, Sharon's face turned grim.
"Are you sure this information is legit?"
Brian nodded confidently. "Absolutely, Ms. Wright. If I'm charging you this much, you can bet the info is solid."
Sharon closed the document and asked seriously, "Can you find evidence that David staged that accident?"
The info Brian provided showed that John received a large sum of money after Robert Pharmaceuticals went bankrupt and died mysteriously within a year. Before John died, he had contacted David. All this pointed to David being involved in the accident at Robert Pharmaceuticals six years ago, but there was no direct evidence.
For Sharon, evidence was everything.
"I can, but it'll take some time. The Smith family has deep roots in Metropolis. If I investigate openly, I'll get caught. We have to be careful."
"Alright, no rush. Take your time and keep me updated."
After their conversation, Brian stood up. "Ms. Wright, I have plans tonight, so I'll head out."
"Okay, thanks for your efforts."
"It's my job."
After Brian left, Sharon stayed in the private room for another half hour before leaving.
Meanwhile, in a booth on the second floor, Victor looked at Seb, who had been silently drinking one glass after another, and raised an eyebrow.
"Seb, are you really heartbroken?"
When Seb first started the company, he had been duped several times and nearly went bankrupt, but Victor had never seen him in such a bad mood.
Seb gave him a cold look, didn't say anything, and took another sip of his drink.
Victor turned to Matthew beside him. "Matthew, aren't you going to stop him? If Seb keeps drinking like this, he'll end up in the hospital."
Matthew's expression was indifferent. "One less to worry about."
Victor was speechless and sarcastically noted that Matthew was a great friend.
He glanced at the dance floor downstairs and suddenly said, "Hey, look, isn't that Sharon?"
Seb paused his drinking and looked in the direction Victor pointed. Sure enough, it was Sharon. At that moment, she was being accosted by a drunk guy, her face looking extremely displeased.
Seb put down his glass, stood up, and then sat back down, coldly saying to the manager waiting beside him, "With such poor security in your bar, who would dare to come here?"
The bar manager broke out in a cold sweat and quickly said, "Mr. Smith, I'll handle it right away."
Victor looked at Seb and couldn't help but tease, "If I remember correctly, you don't seem to like your nephew very much and aren't the type to meddle in other people's business. Yet, you're having someone help your nephew's wife out of trouble."
It was known that when Alex was negotiating business, he often faced troubles, and they had encountered such situations several times. But Seb always pretended not to see and never helped Alex out.
Seb's expression was indifferent. "If something happens and the Smith family knows I was here but didn't help, it would be hard to explain."
Victor nodded and agreed. "True."
He had met Alex's sister-in-law, Clara, before. She was quite difficult to deal with.
Beside him, Matthew raised an eyebrow, a hint of interest flashing in his eyes. Seb had always done things his own way and wasn't the type to care about what others said. There must be another reason he was willing to help today.
