Chapter 273 Don't Believe a Single Word
[Ms. Roach, Rufus just spilled the beans about you having a kid.]
Sharon's brain short-circuited as she stared at the message for what felt like forever before finally texting Paul back: [Where to?]
Around nine at night, after making sure Demetrius was out cold, Sharon asked Bonnie to stick around and keep an eye on him. She then swapped outfits and got ready to head out.
Bonnie asked, "Ms. Roach, it's super late. Where you off to?"
"Got some stuff to handle at the lab. I'll be back before midnight, hopefully."
Bonnie nodded, "Alright, stay safe."
Sharon drove to the spot she and Paul agreed on, rolling in around ten.
As she walked into the restaurant, Paul stood up and waved. Sharon's eyes narrowed as she made her way over and plopped down across from him.
Sharon said, "Mr. Harris, I'm here. Spill it."
Paul was momentarily thrown by how different Sharon seemed from five years ago.
Her looks hadn't changed much, but now she had this confident, chill vibe. She rocked a business suit with a shirt underneath, her long hair slightly curled, oozing feminine charm.
Paul blurted out, "Ms. Roach, you've really changed."
Sharon leaned back, giving him a cold stare, "I'm not here for a trip down memory lane."
Paul was quiet for a bit before speaking in a low voice, "About your kid, is he..."
Sharon cut him off, "Relax, my kid's got nothing to do with Seb. Plus, Seb's got amnesia and a fiancée now. I'm not looking to wreck any homes."
Under the table, her hands clenched tight. She couldn't let Paul find out who Demetrius really was.
Paul didn't ease up, his face still probing, "Then the kid..."
Sharon cut him off again, "Mr. Harris, all you need to know is my kid's got nothing to do with Seb. As for his real dad, that's none of your business."
Facing Sharon's impatient vibe, Paul felt a pang of guilt, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
Sharon didn't linger on it, "Mr. Harris, if you came all the way to Aidamore just for this, it wasn't worth it."
Paul was quiet for a few seconds before sighing, "Ms. Roach, do you really have no feelings left for Mr. Smith?"
With that, he locked eyes with Sharon, watching for any flicker of emotion.
Sharon chuckled lightly, speaking slowly, "Do I look like I do? Besides, I have a boyfriend now."
"Alright, I get it."
Sharon added, "Mr. Harris, since we're here, let's clear the air. Five years ago, I had no plans to be with Seb. Now that he's lost his memory, there's even less of a chance. Let's just pretend nothing ever happened between us, and that we never knew each other."
Paul was taken aback, "Ms. Roach, don't you want to know what happened to the guy who kidnapped you?"
"My friend told me the kidnapper got what he deserved."
Paul saw Sharon's calm demeanor and realized she really didn't want any ties with folks from Metropolis.
After a beat of silence, Paul started talking slowly, "Seb avenged you back then. After that, he turned into a workaholic, barely doing anything but working, eating, and sleeping. He ended up in the hospital a few times in less than three months. Tyler was worried sick about him and..."
"Mr. Harris," Sharon cut him off, "His issues have nothing to do with me. You don't need to fill me in. I think I've made myself clear. I won't go near him, and I hope you keep this under wraps. Goodbye."
With that, she stood up and walked out.
Once she was out of sight, Paul called his subordinate, "Find out which preschool Sharon's kid goes to and get me a photo."
Even though Sharon said the kid had nothing to do with Seb, Paul felt he needed to see for himself.
If it turned out to be true, Paul wouldn't bother Sharon again.
After leaving the restaurant, Sharon immediately called Zachary, "Zachary, I need a favor."
For the next few days, Sharon spent all her time with Demetrius.
The day before the holiday ended, while playing with Demetrius, Sharon got a call from Lavern, inviting her to a banquet the next evening.
Sharon, who always hated banquets, frowned, "Mr. McPherson, you promised no more banquets for me. I told you I just want to focus on my research."
Sensing her icy tone, Lavern quickly reassured her, "Sharon, this time it's an investor from the lab who wants to have dinner with you. She's a woman who really admires your dedication to research. No drinking involved."
After Lavern's repeated assurances, Sharon finally agreed.
"I know most of the female investors in our lab. Who is it?"
Lavern explained, "She's a new investor. You were away from the lab for the past few weeks, so you haven't met her. See for yourself tomorrow."
Sharon felt something was off, but before she could ask more, Lavern hurriedly said, "I have a meeting to attend. I'll send you the time and place later. Be sure to be on time."
Shortly after the call ended, Sharon received Lavern's message.
Thinking about her years of working with Lavern, who had always had her back at social events, Sharon decided not to question further.
The next evening, Sharon followed a waiter into a private room and finally understood why the person wanted to meet her.
"Sharon, long time no see," Rebecca's voice rang out.
Sharon sat across from Rebecca, looking at her calmly, "Ms. Walker, you went to all this trouble just to see me?"
Rebecca raised an eyebrow and smiled, "You're overthinking it. I see potential in your research direction, and that's why I decided to invest in your lab. Meeting you was just a side note."
Despite Rebecca's explanation, Sharon wasn't buying it.
Given the disdain in Rebecca's eyes, it was hard to believe she would invest in Sharon's lab out of goodwill.
"So, what's your real reason for meeting me today, Ms. Walker?"
Hearing that, Rebecca smiled, "You should know by now that I'm Seb's fiancée. I don't want you anywhere near Seb. With the Walker Family's power, it's easy to bring down a small lab. If you don't want others to suffer because of you, stay away from Seb. Otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless."
