Chapter 49 Want More?
Noticing the strong and firm hand around her waist, its warmth seeping through the thin fabric, Sharon's face suddenly turned red.
She quickly steadied herself, not daring to look at him. "Mr. Smith, thank you."
Seb nonchalantly withdrew his hand and said in a deep voice, "Even when looking at medicinal herbs, you need to watch your step."
"Got it." From then on, Sharon didn't dare to look around carelessly, carefully watching her step to avoid falling again.
"This is dried lavender." A staff member casually took a piece of dried lavender from the rack and handed it to Seb.
Seb took a look and then handed it to Sharon. "Take a look."
This piece of lavender didn't appear much different from the herbs BioGenX Pharmaceuticals showed them this morning, but it would still need testing to determine the alkaloid content.
Sharon looked at the staff member and asked, "Typically, how much alkaloid content does lavender contain?"
"It generally reaches about 0.1%, anything higher is quite rare," the staff said.
Actually, 0.1% was a decent figure, but if BioGenX Pharmaceuticals indeed sourced all their herbs from here, the figure they showed this morning was likely fabricated to raise the price.
Sharon returned the herb to the staff member and smiled. "Thank you, I have a rough understanding now."
While they were inspecting the herb base, the people from BioGenX Pharmaceuticals were not idle either.
Benjamin called Sunny into the office. "Do you think Mr. Smith is inclined to cooperate?"
This morning, he hinted multiple times about signing a contract, but each time Seb subtly changed the subject.
However, he didn't outright refuse, only saying he needed more time to consider.
If this cooperation went through, BioGenX Pharmaceuticals' profits could double this year, so Benjamin was very keen on this collaboration.
Sunny shook her head. "I'm not sure. The gift delivery to Sharon failed that night. If we can win her over, the cooperation is almost guaranteed."
Thinking of Sharon, Benjamin lit a cigarette, feeling a bit frustrated.
Sharon didn't even blink at two hundred thousand dollars. Was she truly indifferent to material wealth, or did she want more?
Benjamin said, "There are a million dollars in this card. During dinner tonight, find a chance to give it to her. If she accepts it, fine. If not, you know what to do."
Sunny took the card and nodded. "Okay, Mr. Nelson."
In the evening, they returned to the clothing store to change back into their clothes.
Back at the hotel, Sharon returned to her room to rest for a while before it was time to head out for the evening.
They were leaving tomorrow afternoon, and tonight BioGenX Pharmaceuticals was hosting a farewell banquet for them.
Sharon didn't particularly enjoy social gatherings like this, but it was unavoidable.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Benjamin was already at the door to greet them, a friendly smile on his face. "Mr. Smith, please come in."
After sitting down in the private room, Benjamin personally poured Seb a drink, smiling. "Mr. Smith, a toast to you."
Seb raised his glass and clinked it with Benjamin's, downing the drink in one gulp.
After refilling Seb's glass, Benjamin finally sat down. "Mr. Smith, since you're leaving tomorrow, can we finalize the cooperation tonight? If you have any concerns, feel free to bring them up, and we can discuss them."
With a faint smile on his lips and deep, unreadable eyes, Seb's thoughts were hard to discern.
He said, "Mr. Nelson, your herb quality is excellent, but this visit was mainly for inspection. We need to discuss with the company's board how to proceed with this mutually beneficial collaboration once we return."
Benjamin's eyes flashed with displeasure. He had gone to great lengths to host Seb and his team, nearly turning the company upside down, only for Seb to say he still needed to consult the board. But being experienced in the business world, he quickly suppressed his displeasure, maintaining a friendly smile.
He said, "Of course, but our company is very sincere in wanting to establish a deep cooperation with the Silvercrest Group. I hope you will consider it seriously, Mr. Smith"
Seb nodded. "Yes, Mr. Nelson, a toast to you."
The two continued chatting, and before long, a bottle of wine was finished.
Seb's usually fair face now had a slight flush, his cold eyes showing a hint of intoxication. Under the overhead light, his handsome features were almost mesmerizing.
Noticing she was staring at Seb, Sharon quickly averted her gaze.
"Ms. Wright, a toast to you." Sharon turned her head to see Sunny handing her a glass of red wine, smiling warmly.
Sharon said, "Sorry, Ms. Bell, I don't drink."
"The wine won't get you drunk. It's smooth and delicate, you should try it, Ms. Wright," as she spoke, Sunny pushed the glass of red wine closer.
Sharon tried to decline, but the moment her hand brushed Sunny's, Sunny tipped her hand, splashing half the wine onto Sharon's collar.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Wright, I might have had a bit too much to drink tonight and couldn't hold it steady." Sunny quickly put down the glass and grabbed a towel from the table to wipe the wine from Sharon's collar.
The sudden incident drew everyone's attention in the private room.
Seb's gaze darkened, his brows furrowing slightly.
Benjamin looked displeased, his voice cold. "Sunny, what's wrong with you? Can you even handle a toast properly?"
Sunny seemed frightened, her hand trembling as she wiped Sharon's collar, her face full of panic. "I'm sorry, Mr. Nelson, I didn't mean to."
Seeing Sunny's pale face and remorseful eyes, Sharon pursed her lips and said, "Mr. Nelson, it's fine. I'll just go to the restroom to clean up."
After all, they were all just employees, and she didn't want to make things difficult for Sunny over an unintentional mistake.
Benjamin said, "Alright, it's my fault for not managing my staff well. I apologize."
Sharon lowered her gaze and turned to leave the private room.
As she reached the restroom and was about to clean her collar, she saw Sunny following her in the mirror.
Sharon turned to look at her. "Ms. Bell, it was just an accident. You don't need to worry about it."
"Ms. Wright, thank you."
Sharon didn't say anything more, turning to the sink to wash the wine stain from her collar.
After she finished, she noticed Sunny still standing nearby, a look of confusion in her eyes.
Sunny stepped forward, taking a card from her bag and handing it to Sharon with a smile. "Ms. Wright, I apologize for tonight. Please accept my apology."
Looking at the gold-embossed card in front of her, Sharon finally understood Sunny's earlier hand tremor was all a setup for this moment.
"Ms. Bell, how much is on this card?"
"Ms. Wright, a million dollars. If you can persuade Mr. Smith to cooperate with BioGenX Pharmaceuticals, there will be more in the future."
Sharon lowered her gaze, a look of surprise in her eyes.
She didn't expect BioGenX Pharmaceuticals to be so generous in trying to win her over.
However, she was neither an employee of the Silvercrest Group nor interested in money she didn't earn.
"Sorry, I don't have the influence to affect Mr. Smith's decisions. You've got the wrong person, Ms. Bell." With that, Sharon turned to leave.
However, the next second, Sunny's cold voice came from behind. "In that case, I can only apologize to you, Ms. Wright."
Before Sharon could understand what she meant, a sharp pain hit the back of her neck, and she lost consciousness.
