Chapter 177 Replan Your Future Path
Paul rushed back.
"Mr. Smith, this morning Ms. Wright had a spat with Laura Russel in the elevator. Laura pushed her, and Ms. Wright fell. Leo probably took her to the hospital."
Seb frowned. "Why were they arguing?"
Paul hesitated, then said, "It seems to be about you reconciling with Miss Hall. Here's the surveillance footage."
Seb watched the video on the tablet Paul handed him, his face darkening.
"Fire Laura Russel."
"Mr. Smith, isn't that a bit harsh? Ms. Wright did slap Laura afterward."
Seb's expression was cold. "We issued a statement prohibiting any discussion of my personal life at work."
Seeing Seb's anger, Paul quickly said, "Got it, I'll handle it."
Soon, news of Laura's dismissal spread, along with a statement:
[To all Silvercrest Group employees: Anyone discussing Mr. Seb Smith's personal life or causing trouble because of it will be fired!]
Employees who had been gossiping fell silent, not daring to discuss it further. However, some were unhappy, feeling it was unfair that Sharon, who also hit Laura, wasn't punished.
Paul reported this to Seb.
"Post the surveillance footage on the company's internal forum."
After the video was posted, almost no one discussed it anymore. Even if some were still unhappy, they knew Seb was siding with Sharon and didn't dare to speak up.
Meanwhile, Sharon insisted Leo not take her to the hospital.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
Sharon shook her head. "Yes, I'm fine. It's almost time to start work. Thanks for earlier."
"Now that I'm back, I won't let anyone bully you."
Sharon pressed her lips together. "I appreciate it, but we should keep our distance. Also, I took advantage of you earlier, I'm sorry."
Before Leo could respond, Sharon got out of the car and left.
Watching her go, Leo's eyes narrowed, his expression turning cold.
Back at the office, Sharon heard Laura was fired but showed no reaction.
Ashley hesitated. "Sharon, I heard Mr. Smith fired Laura. What's going on between you two?"
Sharon looked indifferent. "Don't talk about it. I have nothing to do with him. If others hear, they'll misunderstand. I just want to focus on work."
Ashley was stunned as Sharon picked up her lab notebook, changed into her lab coat, and went to the lab.
Near noon, as Sharon was about to go for lunch, she got a message from Donna Howard, a senior she hadn't contacted in a while.
[Sharon, I'm in Metropolis for a seminar. U free 4 dinner? It's been a long time.]
Back in school, Sharon and Donna were close. Donna had guided Sharon when she first joined the lab.
After Donna graduated, she pursued a master's degree, while Sharon returned to Metropolis. It had been over four years.
Sharon replied to Donna, asking for her hotel location, and found a nearby restaurant.
Around six in the evening, Sharon walked into the restaurant and saw a short-haired girl by the window waving at her.
"Sharon, over here!"
Seeing Donna's smile, Sharon felt like she was back in college and couldn't help but smile too.
Donna, a top student, went straight to a Ph.D. program after her master's. She was in town with her advisor for a seminar.
After Sharon sat down, Donna smiled. "Sharon, you haven't changed a bit."
"Donna, you haven't either. Seeing you reminds me of the times you guided me in the lab."
"Don't say that. Later on, you were the one guiding me. By the way, where's Alex? Why didn't he come with you?"
Sharon lowered her eyes and said calmly, "We got divorced."
Donna looked surprised and then guilty. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."
In college, Alex often picked Sharon up from the lab, sometimes bringing food for everyone. They were known as the golden couple on campus.
When Sharon got married after graduation, Donna regretted not attending the wedding. She never expected them to end up divorced.
Sharon shook her head. "It's okay, it's all in the past."
"Alright, let's not talk about it."
Donna changed the subject. Knowing Sharon worked at a pharmaceutical company, she felt it was a pity. Sharon had shown great talent in the lab. If she hadn't given up further education to return to Metropolis, she would have had a bright future.
Sharon didn't feel much regret. She had chosen her path and saw no need to romanticize the one she didn't take.
As dinner was ending, Donna took out an invitation and handed it to Sharon.
"Sharon, part of this seminar covers my current research. If you have time, I'd like you to come."
Sharon accepted the invitation. "Sure, thank you, Donna."
Donna sighed. "Sharon, now that you're divorced, I think you should reconsider your future. You're still young and can go back to school. The corporate world is messy. I think focusing on research in an institute would be best for you."
Seeing Donna's serious expression, Sharon nodded. "Alright, Donna, I'll think about it."
As they finished dinner and walked to the door, they ran into Alex and Ava coming out of the restaurant next door.
Seeing Sharon, Ava tightened her grip on Alex's arm, looking wary.
Donna quickly understood the situation.
Sharon didn't want to deal with them and turned to leave with Donna towards the parking lot.
However, seeing Sharon ignore him, Alex felt irritated. He stepped forward and blocked their way.
"Sharon, even though we're divorced, you don't have to avoid me like the plague, do you?"
