Chapter 132 You Don't Believe Me Either, Do You?
"I think he aimed for me on purpose. This might not be an accident." Sharon said cautiously.
The two cops exchanged looks. One of them turned to Sharon and said, "We can't rule that out. We'll wait for the investigation results. But so far, it looks like drunk driving. Have you upset anyone lately?"
Sharon thought for a moment, then shook her head. "I don't think so."
"Alright, we'll check into it. If you remember anything else, let us know."
"Okay, thanks."
After the police left, Sharon couldn't stop thinking about the car speeding towards her that morning.
'Could it really have been an accident? Who drinks that early in the morning?' she wondered.
After confirming Alex's condition had stabilized, Seb prepared to take Sharon home to rest.
But Sharon refused.
"I'm not tired. I'll stay here until he wakes up."
Alex lost his legs saving her; how could she rest now?
Seb frowned and said coldly, "You're not in great shape either. I'll have someone guard the door and notify you when he wakes up."
"No need, I can do it myself."
Sharon's distant demeanor made Seb's heart sink.
He squatted to meet her eyes and said slowly, "Even if you stay, there's nothing you can do. Go home and rest..."
"Uncle Seb," Sharon interrupted, "Alex lost his legs saving me. Even if I go home, I won't sleep. I'm a mess right now. Can you let me stay here quietly for a while?"
Seb was silent for a few seconds. "Alright, then I'll stay with you."
He sat down next to her.
Smelling Seb's familiar scent, Sharon leaned her head against the cold wall, eyes half-closed, lost in thought.
Clara, watching, felt a sharp pain in her eyes.
'These two are really shameless!' she thought.
Around eleven at night, Alex finally woke up.
Clara noticed first and rushed over, emotional. "Alex, you're awake! Are you feeling okay?"
Her voice choked up. Just thinking about Alex never standing again felt like a knife to her heart.
"Mom, how's Sharon? Is she okay?"
Hearing Alex's concern for Sharon, Clara's face turned ugly.
"You care about her, but do you know that you..."
"Alright, Alex just woke up. Don't start with this crap!" David interrupted, giving her a cold look.
Alex had just woken up. If Clara told him about his legs now, he might not handle it well.
Sharon and Seb walked to the bedside. Sharon looked down at Alex and said softly, "I'm fine."
Seeing the bloodstains on her clothes, Alex's eyes filled with worry. "Are you hurt? Why is there so much blood on your clothes?"
"This blood is yours. I'm not hurt."
Alex visibly relaxed. "That's good."
Seeing Seb next to Sharon, Alex's eyes flickered, and he said indifferently, "Uncle Seb, thanks for coming. Your work must be busy, so I won't keep you."
Seb remained calm. "No rush, I'll take her home later."
Alex's pale face turned even more ashen. "Uncle Seb, Sharon is my wife. I'll find someone to take her home. You don't need to worry about it."
Before Seb could respond, Clara sneered, "Seb, even if Alex is in bed, David and I are still here. It's not your place to interfere in our family matters."
"Are you sure you want to argue in the ward?" Seb looked at her, eyes cold.
Clara bit her lip. Considering Alex's condition, she stayed silent.
"Dad, Mom, it's late. Sharon can stay with me. You should go home and rest. Come back tomorrow morning."
Clara wanted to stay and take care of Alex, but thinking about how he ended up like this because of Sharon, she agreed. "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow."
After they left, Sharon turned to Seb. "Uncle Seb, thanks for today. You should go home and rest too. I'll walk you out."
Seb frowned, his demeanor turning cold. "You're exhausted too. I'll call a nurse to take care of him. I'll take you home."
"No, I'll stay here tonight to take care of him."
Knowing Sharon's stubbornness, Seb was silent for a few seconds before nodding. "Alright."
Seb walked towards the door, and Sharon got up to see him off.
When she returned, she noticed Alex's grim expression. Sharon pretended not to see it and sat by the bed.
After a long silence, Alex finally spoke. "Sharon, can you stop being so cold to me?"
Sharon looked at him calmly. "Alex, I'm grateful you saved me, but we can't go back."
Alex's face darkened, and he let out a bitter laugh. "You still want to divorce me, don't you?"
Sharon nodded. "Yes, but I'll take care of you until you recover."
"You know that's not what I want."
"Do you think I can pretend nothing happened and stay with you after knowing about your affair and what David did to my family?"
Alex lowered his eyes, saying nothing, his face pale.
He thought Sharon would soften because he saved her, but he was wrong.
She was always heartless to those she didn't care about.
Alex closed his eyes, sleepless all night.
Early the next morning, Clara came in with some soup.
Seeing her, Sharon stood up. "I'm going home to rest. I'll come back tonight to take care of you."
Clara sneered, "Alex ended up like this because of you, and you can still sleep well?"
Sharon ignored her, said her piece to Alex, and turned to leave.
As she walked out, she could still hear Clara's cursing.
Sharon didn't pause, pretending not to hear.
At the hospital entrance, she saw Seb's car parked nearby.
Sharon hesitated, wanting to ignore it, but Seb got out and stopped her.
"I'll take you home."
"Uncle Seb, no need. I'll take a cab."
"Either you get in the car yourself, or I'll carry you in. Your choice."
Sharon bit her lip, and after a few seconds, she opened the passenger door and got in.
On the way back, they remained silent.
When the car stopped at her apartment complex, Seb turned and saw Sharon still lost in thought. He frowned.
"What are you thinking about?"
Sharon snapped out of her daze and looked at Seb. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "Uncle Seb, I still think this wasn't an accident."
Seb looked at her. Sharon's hair was a bit messy, her face pale, and her eyes filled with exhaustion. But her gaze was firm, making one feel a pang of sympathy.
"You're very tired now. Go home, take a shower, and get some sleep. I'll handle the rest. Don't think about it anymore."
Sharon bit her lip. "Uncle Seb, you don't believe me either, do you?"
"I believe you, but the most important thing for you right now is to rest."
Seb's expression was serious, with no hint of perfunctory.
He truly believed her.
For some reason, Sharon's eyes felt a bit sore.
She looked away, suppressing the tears in her eyes.
"Uncle Seb, thank you."
Since the accident, Sharon had been lost and helpless. It wasn't until Seb looked at her and said he believed her that she felt a sense of relief.
Even she wasn't sure, but Seb was willing to believe her.
"Go home and rest well. Don't worry about anything else. It will work out somehow."
