Chapter 28 Forcing Alex to Divorce
Seeing Sharon at a loss for words, Alex tried to hold her hand, but she avoided him.
A hint of sadness flashed in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure and said, "Sharon, let's take our time to mend our relationship until the day you are willing to forgive me."
Sharon looked up at him. "I hope so."
She knew that day would never come.
During dinner, Alex kept trying to chat with Sharon, but her responses were always cold and indifferent.
Alex sensed her perfunctory attitude and felt a deep sense of loss, but he understood that since he had cheated first, he had no right to expect Sharon to treat him as she used to.
Meanwhile, Sharon's dining experience was not affected by Alex's behavior. The steak at this restaurant was delicious, and she didn't want to waste such a wonderful meal because of Alex.
After dinner, Alex drove her back. When the car stopped downstairs, and Sharon was about to get out, Alex suddenly called out to her.
"What's up?" Sharon asked.
"I have a gift for you," Alex replied. Then, a standard property deed appeared in front of Sharon. "The place you're living in now isn't safe. I bought you a place near your office. You can move in anytime, and the commute will be shorter."
Sharon looked down at the property deed, showing a bit of surprise. "I'm fine where I am now."
Alex said, "It's okay. You can move in whenever you want."
Sharon nodded and reached out to take the property deed. "Okay. Thank you."
Alex looked a bit helpless. "Sharon, we're married. No need to say thanks."
Sharon didn't respond and looked up at him. "It's getting late. I have some experimental data to upload. I'll go upstairs now. Be safe on your way back."
"Okay. Don't overwork yourself," Alex said.
"Okay, bye."
After getting out of the car, Sharon turned and walked into Fortune Garden.
Alex's car was parked by the roadside. He constantly hoped she would look back, but until her figure disappeared from his sight, she never did.
He thought of the time when they were dating in college. Every night, he would walk her to her dorm, reluctant to part until the doors were about to close, and she would look back at him every few steps.
After they got married, Sharon would wake up early every day to make him breakfast and see him off to work. He didn't know when such warm scenes would reappear.
However, now that Sharon was willing to give him a chance, Alex believed that one day, they could reconcile.
Back home, Sharon took the diamond bracelet out of her bag and placed it on the table along with the property deed. Then she made a phone call.
The agent was shocked when he heard Sharon wanted to sell a house in the Regal Heights. "Ms. Wright, are you sure it's a house in the Regal Heights?" he confirmed.
He was puzzled. If Sharon already had a house in the Regal Heights, why did she choose the one-bedroom apartment he found for her?
"Yes, I'll send you the address and the access code. Please take someone to view the property. I'll pay you a 3% commission based on the total price once it's sold," Sharon said.
She had researched the market. Real estate agents typically earn 1% to 3% commissions. The well-appointed house in Regal Heights was valued at around two million dollars. If sold, the agent would earn a significant sum.
"Ms. Wright, I have a question. Since you have a house, why don't you live in Regal Heights and instead rent the old apartment I found for you?" the agent asked.
Sharon didn't want to cause unnecessary trouble, so she replied calmly, "It's not mine; it's my friend's."
"Oh, I see. Send me the address and the code, and I'll come by tomorrow to take interior photos and list it," the agent said.
"Okay. Thank you." After hanging up, Sharon opened the property deed, found the specific unit and floor number, and sent the code to the agent. After confirming the agent's response, she exited the chat.
She noticed that Sophie had updated her social media with a post that included just one sentence and a black image: [Started with a heartbeat, but ended with a broken heart.]
Sharon bit her lip, thought for a few seconds, and then called Sophie.
After several unanswered calls, she felt a bit anxious. She remembered the location-sharing feature she had with Sophie and quickly opened the app. Seeing that Sophie was at the Lee Villa, Sharon felt relieved and decided to change clothes and go check on her.
Just as Sharon stood up, Sophie called back.
"Sophie, are you okay? Did you really break up with Daniel?" Sharon asked anxiously.
"Yes." Sophie's voice was nasal, clearly from crying.
"Don't be sad. You always said, 'Out with the old, in with the new.' Is it worth crying over a jerk?" Sharon tried to comfort her.
Sophie choked up but then said firmly, "Yeah, being single rocks! I'm thinking tomorrow I'll hit up the college scene and find myself a cute young student to hang out with."
"Go for it," Sharon said.
Hearing Sharon's serious tone, Sophie couldn't help but laugh. "Alright, I'll bring him over for you to meet once I got one."
Sharon and Sophie chatted for a while before hanging up.
Sharon put down her phone and sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. She and Sophie always seemed to encounter bad men. Now, she just hoped Sophie could move on from this relationship soon.
She looked down at the property deed and the sparkling bracelet on the table, then casually put them in a drawer and got up to wash up for bed.
The Regal Heights had a prime location, and shortly after Sharon listed the house for sale, she received many inquiries. It eventually sold for $100,000 below market price. After the contract was signed, the buyer quickly transferred the full amount to Sharon.
Sharon transferred the promised commission to the agent, who was very pleased. "Ms. Wright, if you or any of your friends need to sell a house in the future, please contact me."
Seeing the agent's excited expression, Sharon couldn't help but smile. "Okay."
Back home, the first thing Sharon did was take out $100,000 to hire a private investigator to follow Ava. The last time she accidentally saw them cheating, she was so shocked that she forgot to record it as evidence. But given Ava's personality, she would definitely cling to Alex. Once they reconciled, Sharon could get the evidence to force Alex to divorce.
Sharon and Alex had been married for eight years, and she didn't want to resort to schemes against him. But since Alex refused to split the assets fairly and wouldn't agree to a divorce, this seemed like her only option.
After finalizing the details with the private investigator, Sharon opened her banking app. Staring at the remaining $1.4 million in her account, she pondered how to convert this money into personal assets.
While she was deep in thought, her phone suddenly rang.
Seeing that it was Susan calling, Sharon was a bit surprised. "Susan, what's up?"
"Sharon, Mr. Smith, the CEO of Silvercrest Group, will be coming to the lab tomorrow to check on the progress. Please come to work early to prepare," Susan said.
