Chapter 41 He’s Not Worth Ruining Myself Over

Sophie said, "Mr. Smith, if you don't love Sharon anymore, for the sake of your eight-year relationship, please let her go."

"Don't stay married while messing around with your mistress outside, depleting whatever's left of your bond."

After that, she turned and left, ignoring how upset Alex looked.

Alex's fingers turned slightly pale as he gripped his phone, his eyes dark and deep like an inky abyss.

The phone was still ringing. With a stern face, Alex walked to the stairwell to answer it, "What is it?"

Ava's serious voice came through the phone. "Mr. Smith, I have something important to tell you."

"I'm busy right now." Alex was about to hang up when Ava said something that made him freeze in place.

After several seconds, he said in a deep voice, "I'll come find you later."

Sophie returned to the ward and saw that Sharon was awake, quickly walking to her bedside. "Sharon, I already asked my housekeeper to bring some food over. She should be here soon. Rest a bit more."

"Okay." Sharon nodded.

Not long after, Alex pushed the door open and walked into the ward.

Seeing his gloomy face, Sophie sneered, "Mr. Smith, have you done with your call to your lover?"

Alex frowned at her, clearly displeased.

If it weren't for Sophie being Sharon's best friend, he would have dealt with the Lee family long ago for such insolence.

He said, "Sharon, there's an issue with a contract at the company that I need to handle. I'll come back once it's sorted."

Sharon kept her eyes closed, not wanting to engage with Alex.

Sophie gave a mocking look. "Is it really the company, or is it Ava? Mr. Smith, you should know better."

At this, Alex glared coldly at her. "Sophie, I've tolerated you because you're Sharon's friend. But if you don't want the Lee family to go bankrupt, don't test my limits."

Maybe Sharon's resistance to him was partly due to Sophie's influence.

Thinking this made Alex even angrier, his eyes darkening further.

Hearing Alex threaten Sophie, Sharon frowned and looked at him. "If you need to leave, just go. You don't need to come back tonight. Sophie will be here."

The detachment in Sharon's eyes stung Alex.

He insisted, "Sharon, it's really because of work that I have to leave."

Sharon didn't take Alex's explanation to heart.

After all, it didn't matter anymore.

Sharon said, "Just go."

Seeing her close her eyes, Alex pursed his lips and left without another word.

With the door opening and closing, the ward fell silent.

Sophie gripped Sharon's hand, gritting her teeth. "Sharon, forget him. Once you're better, I'll take you to a club and get you gigolo. If this douchebag won't divorce you, let's make him be a cuckcold!"

Sharon couldn't help but smile, suppressing the bitterness inside. "No need. He's not worth it."

Sophie said, "How is that not worth it? It's enjoying life. Once I move out of my house, I'll find a gigolo."

Sharon was speechless.

After leaving the hospital, Alex drove straight to find Ava.

As soon as the door opened, he said coldly, "Where's the report?"

Ava stepped aside to let him in and handed him a medical report from the table. "Mr. Smith, I didn't mean to look. When you and Ms. Wright had your check-ups, I hadn't left the Smith Group yet, so my number was on file. When the report came out, the clinic called me to pick it up."

When she was Alex's secretary, she managed his daily life, including picking up reports.

Ignoring Ava's explanation, Alex opened the medical report.

Upon seeing that Sharon was diagnosed with infertility, Alex's grip on the report tightened, his fingers turning pale.

He hadn't expected that their three years of trying were in vain because Sharon was infertile!

Seeing Alex's grim expression, Ava spoke, "Mr. Smith, you and Ms. Wright only did routine check-ups before. If it weren't for this targeted pre-pregnancy check, you might still not know..."

"Enough!" Alex cut her off coldly, his gaze piercing.

Ava shivered and didn't dare to speak further.

"Has anyone else seen this report besides you?" Alex asked.

Ava shook her head cautiously. "No, Mr. Smith. Are you planning to keep this a secret?"

"It's none of your business. Pretend you don't know about this. If a single word gets out, I'll make your life a living hell!"

Ava's eyes showed hurt. "Don't you trust me? And even knowing Ms. Wright can't have children, you still won't divorce her?"

"I won't . Even if I did, I wouldn't marry you. Just have the baby, and stay out of other matters!" With that, Alex left with the report.

After the door slammed shut, Ava wiped her tears, a smile slowly forming on her lips.

Alex didn't go back to the hospital that night.

Sharon had already anticipated this, so she wasn't disappointed.

After a few days of rest in the hospital, she was almost fully recovered, except for occasional dizziness. The doctor said she could be discharged in the afternoon.

Sophie said, "Sharon, I have something to do this afternoon. I'll have my driver take you home."

Sharon said, "No need, I don't have much stuff. I'll just take a cab."

During her hospital stay, Alex only showed up once, leaving everything to Sophie, who had already sacrificed a lot for her. Sharon felt very guilty.

"I'll still have the driver come. He doesn't have anything else to do this afternoon. I'm in a hurry, so I'll leave first. Let me know when you get home." Sophie hurriedly left.

Sharon continued packing her clothes and personal items when she heard the door open behind her. Thinking Sophie had forgotten something, she turned around with a smile.

Seeing Ava, her expression turned cold.

She had hoped never to see Ava again, but she had underestimated Ava's shamelessness. "You're not welcome here. Please leave."

Seeing Sharon's cold eyes, Ava smiled provocatively and sat down by the bed. "I heard you was hospitalized, so I came to see you. I'm sorry I couldn't come earlier. I've been feeling unwell, and Mr. Smith has been with me."

Though Ava apologized, there wasn't a hint of remorse in her demeanor.

Sharon's expression remained indifferent. "He's too busy, so he sent his mistress to visit me, right?"

Ava's face changed but quickly regained her smug smile, standing up and walking towards Sharon.

She said, "Ms. Wright, haven't you heard? Love isn't about who comes first. The unloved one is the mistress. Mr. Smith won't divorce you because it would affect his position in the Smith Group. He hasn't loved you for a long time."

Finally, Sharon stopped what she was doing.

Seeing Ava's smug face, she calmly said, "Love may not care about order, but it should care about decency, right?"

"It's my first time seeing a mistress feeling so superior. Even if Alex doesn't love me anymore, as long as we're not divorced, you can only sneak around like rats in the sewer."

"You say he loves you, but why hasn't he loved you enough to divorce me? Don't overestimate yourself. He can have many lovers, but there's only one Mrs. Smith."

Ava's face turned pale, her hands clenching unconsciously. She hadn't expected Sharon to be so sharp-tongued.

But soon, Sharon would have a hard time explaining herself.

Sharon was about to continue packing when Ava suddenly grabbed her wrist.

Instinctively, she shook Ava off, causing Ava to stumble back and hit the cabinet with a loud bang.

Ava shouted, "So painful!"

"Sharon, what are you doing?" Alex asked.

Sharon turned to see him walking in with a dark expression.

So this was their plan.

"You saw it all, didn't you? Do you still need to ask?" Sharon said.

Ava sat on the floor, her face pale from pain, but she forced a smile. "Mr. Smith, don't blame Ms. Wright. It's my fault. She has every right to be angry."

Alex quickly helped her up, his gaze cold as he looked at Sharon. "Ava is weak. Even if you're angry, you shouldn't lay a hand on a pregnant woman!"

Sharon's grip on her clothes tightened, her eyes growing cold as she looked at Alex.

Ava might be pregnant, but she was a patient too.

Ava had come to her ward to provoke her, yet Alex didn't care about the cause and assumed she was at fault.

Their eight-year relationship couldn't compare to Ava, who had only been with him for a year.

"If you don't want me to lay a hand on her, don't let her flaunt herself in front of me." Sharon's indifferent demeanor only made Alex more displeased.

For a moment, Alex didn't know if he was angrier at Sharon for not explaining or for her indifference towards him.

"Apologize!" he ordered.
